Strength:

STRONG BOOMING BASS, UNIT HAS BEEN IN USE 2 YRS WITHOUT FAIL

Weakness:

NO REMOTE CONTROL

I purchased a couple of "Ultimate" powered sub-woofers, I saw the Infinity at a resonable price , so I bought it. I really love my Ultimate sub-woofers better than the Infinity only because I can remotely control the amount of base generated. Other than that , the Infinity BU-120 has worked flawlessly for over a year and half. I am troubled , however, because 800.com nor any other online audio e-store carries these speakers any longer,,,,why?
the amp does turn off automatically when no current is sensed by the input, it is on standbye power only , so it consumes little power.
Bottom line, once you tweak it for the room it's in, it should provide years of continuous service

Strength:

...price

Weakness:

boomy & muddy, cheap construction

Overall, I am giving 4 stars just because of the purchase price. However, this sub is not worthy of the Infinity name due to poor construction & boomy/muddy bass (only some frequencies).

I have had no problems with the unit at all except for having to re-glue the rubber feet & recently re-glue the cardboard/plastic port. The port came loose and caused an awful hiss sounding noise. This may be partly my fault because I like my music really loud, but I would still expect more from Infinity.

Bottom line is that you can do much better if you spend some extra cash, but pick one up if you can get "A" stock at a good price. $200 spent 2 years ago has really done pretty well for me.

Strength:

Price, Good Home theater sound

Weakness:

humming, lack of on/off switch, muddy sound

I have owned this sub for about 8 months and have no complaints. I realized when I bought the thing that I wasn't paying for top of the line equipment, so I can live with the low humming noise, and muddy sound. It has done very well for filling in the bass in my home theater. I haven't tried the sock trick yet, but maybe that will help the sound a little.

Overall I am satisfied with this sub and would buy it again. My satisfaction, however, remains conditional on the fact that the thing doesn't die like so many of yours have.

Strength:

Great price, Good sound

Weakness:

Slight Hum, No on/off

I'm not sure where all these people got their subs from that are blowing up, smoking, etc. I have been using my BU-120 for about six months and have not experienced any problems other than a slight humming. After purchasing a Monster Cable sub cable, the hum has all but disappeared. This sub is excellent for home theatre and works well for music. The sound is not quite as tight as I would have liked, but after filling one port with a wool sock, the sound has improved. As the level is turned up, the sound does begin to get muddy, but at normal levels and with decent fronts, the sound is quite good. This sub is quite a value at the $140 price I paid. If you are looking for the perfect sub, do not purchase the infinity, but if you are looking for a good sub and can find a good deal on it, don't hesitate to purchase it.

Strength:

good for home theater until last night

Weakness:

Dang thing self destructed loudly at 3:30am

Was decent for home theater, lacked precision for music on the wood floor in my living room; was better on the concrete floor in the basement until last night. My wife awoke me at 3:30am thinking the furnace was going to blow. I was in quick agreement! This thing was disfunctioning loudly. We reacted from two floors of closed doors to this noise. I wasted some money I thought well sent on this unit. I would not trust this box in my home even if it were "properly" fixed. I forsee some lucky (?) sole picking up this piece of trash in front of my house on trash night "thinking " they made a good find. Good Bloody Luck! Don't blame me.

Well if you look back you'll see that I wrote about this about 2 and a half months ago when it blew up on me. I waited 2+ months for the replacement amp to come in and another 2+ weeks for the repair people to get around to installing it.

In the interim, on speaking to a CSR at infinity, I was informed that sure enough there was a major problem with these and that the amps were defective and blowing up all over the place. He also assured me that the buzzing and radio pick-up was related to this amp problem and that the new amp would fix all that.

Well I now have a shiny new amp in the damn sub (not that the first one wasn't shiny and new too when it blew up) and behold...same old buzzing, and picks up radio stations to beat the band. By flipping that switch on the back from 0 - 180 i was able to get rid of some of the humming.

DO NOT BUY...i repeat...DO NOT BUY. The new amps seem no different from the old ones that are spontaneously combusting left and right. They fixed nothing. I'm just waiting for this one to blow up too...probably won't be too long. In which case I'm just going to huck this thing out the window. Man, there's nothing like paying $150, waiting almost 3 months and getting back a defective piece of equipment.

Infinity does not deserve anyone's money. They put out a known defective piece of equipment...flooded the market with them over the internet to get rid of them, and covered their asses by refusing to warrantee them. And then, failed to fix them on the next release as well (which, supposedly, my new amp represents). You will most likely regret this purchase.

Strength:

Great bass. Ease of setup.

Weakness:

None that I have encountered yet. I must me deaf because I don't hear any hums.

Perfect choice for a home theater system. I have listened to Klipsch and I like this sub better because Klipsch puts out so much bass it makes a movie less enjoyable to watch. This sub has made my system much more enjoyable to listen to. I haven't had any problems with it yet and I don't hear any hum. Again I think it is the perfect choice for a home theater system.

Strength:

Good bass for low budgets

Weakness:

Miserable quality control

This is a follow up.

I have purchased the sub brand new in February of 99. I took great care of it (moderate listening levels, aesthetic maintenance, etc.), as I usually take care of every piece of equipment that I own. Then, suddenly one day the sub would not power up. I took it to the Infinity service center and they told me that a capacitor simply melted and fell off from the circuit board. Luckily the warranty was still in effect so they repaired it free of charge. But it still cost me 30$ cab fare (the thing is heavy and I live in NY city!). Everything was fine for a week until one night I woke up amidst terrible popping and banging noises that were coming from the sub. After some struggle with the knobs, I pulled the cord from the outlet and the nightmare was over. I called again the service center and they told me that they were aware of the fact that Infinity put on the market a poor product (that is the reason why instead of the MSRP of 549$ the sub retails in some stores for 140$) inviting me to bring the sub over for another repair. The thought of spending another 30$ on cab fare was not appealing at all, so I opened up the thing to see what was wrong inside. I was amazed to see the poor quality of this so called "brand name sub". Poor acoustic isolation and damping ,microscopic amplifier (150 Watts is a number for idiots), almost invisible heat sink. As I suspected, the circuit board was "smoked", probably from another capacitor that melted or caught fire! After evaluating the whole situation, I tossed the piece of garbage called amplifier .The box with the 12" woofer were the only parts worth keeping. The box seems to be pretty well made with reasonably thick walls and internal bracing. The woofer looks pretty rugged (except its super-flimsy connectors) and it has a heavy magnet and rubber surrounds. So this is it. I tried to warn the people about this sub by posting articles in chat rooms and review sites. But nobody seems to listen.

So, if you want a decent sub that will work exactly until the warranty expires, consider this piece of junk a "Best Buy". Otherwise, look somewhere else....

Strength:

works pretty well

Weakness:

hum, muddiness

I bought this sub from netmarket.com in february 99.It worked well for my needs(ignoring the hum and the muddy sound).Until it suddenly died yesterday.I took it to the service center and they discovered that a capacitor simply fell out from the circuit board! Ha,Ha,Ha... I don't even know what to say. Anyway, prospective buyers , beware of poor quality control and overrated amp power.

I am not getting the hum noise that others are getting with this sub. Thunderous low, deep sound!!!! Was muddy at first but I then tried the "easy fix" (see below) that another user suggested. Muddieness is gone and replaced with tight thunderous bass!!! Only paid $140 BRAND NEW!!!! This is a MUST have for any home system.
