Price, no bells or whistles

Hum, no power shut-off, warm even when not in use.

Hooked up this sub to a Sherwood Newcastle AVP-9080 as well as a Denon DVD-2500, Adcom GCD-700 and GFA-7500 and when I play the DTS version of Saving Private Ryan, EVERYONE in the neighborhood comes over to see what the ruckus is about.

This sub works very well in my system and is not difficult to calibrate. My main speakers are a bit bassy but this picks up the right frequencies and is never too loud though I do have to turn it down a bit at night for my neighbors below.

I don't like the lack of a power switch so when the power in the neighborhood goes out or if I have to unplug the sub and plug it back in, I am always greeted with a loud pop from the sub. That can't be good. Also the "standby" mode is not documented in the manual (I had to contact Infinity to find out that the red light means it is in "non-powered" standby mode - still provides output, but when it goes into "on"/powered mode, the light turns green).

This is my first powered sub so I don't know if they all do this, but it is warm even while in standby mode. Thus helping to run up my electric bill...

Lastly, for the first few months this sub was QUIET! Now it has started to exhibit a low hum that I CAN hear when not listening to anything (like when I am reading quietly) which leads me to believe that this will eventually hum quite loudly when it gets to be a couple of years old..... Who knows?

Top of sub feels hot even though not in use

I was pleased with the overall performance until the sub failed within six months. I happened to be walking by when I heard a frying sound coming out of the speaker and smelled something like a burning resistor. I finally found a local repair shop that would honor the warranty (purchased on internet). It has been in the shop over two months. The parts are on back order from Infinity.

Performed OK. Was good for movies. Failed at 6 months due to blown capacitors and was repaired under warranty. Had trouble at one Infinity recommended shop in obtaining warranty service because I did not have a "normal" bill of sale. I only had the confirmation I received by email from the web business where purchased. Infinity recommended another shop but took 2 months to repair. Failed again at 14 months. This time it needed a complete circuit board. After 6 weeks I called Infinity and was advised that board was no longer available. They really stepped up and promised to send a new sub in its place. 3 months later it has finally shown up and I am quite pleased. It is an IL120s with a 5 year electrical/mechanical, parts/labor warranty. It only has a 12 inch woofer but it sounds incredible compared to the BU150. Way to go Infinity!

Loud, Cheap

I have had the sub for a couple of years, only had it in my house for about 6 months.

It sounds okay for movies, but for music it's far to mushy. I do miss it a lot! I had it for about 3 months, and it blew up. I sent it back to Uncle's and waited about 5 months. They said that they were sending a new one from Infinity, but it arrived back to me the same one. No serial number, but had the same mark on it from before and the same box/broken styro packing. It worked for another couple of months, and I took it to an electronic repair shop as Uncle's would not pay for shipping because I moved to Alaska. It has been in repair for several months. It keeps blowing up on the repair man. The whole circuit card has been replaced. Ick.

I like this sub to no end. It makes my whole room active. What a great way to watch movies. It delivers so much bass that when Maverick buzz's the tower(Top Gun) the whole house shakes let alone the room. It has made moviea alot more fun. As for music the sub is working with 4 R@2 speakers and a CC1 and it compliments them perfectly. I have the crossover set to 50hz (the RS2 lower limit) and they sound great. I use the stereo inputs and not the speaker wire inputs. One out put from the receiver to a split into the r/l inputs on the sub. From where the rating is on here i believe they should be much higher. in the 4.6-4.75 range. Plug one in and let the bombs explode.

confusing to calibrate initially

This sub is one serious piece of furniture. I ordered it from mercata - one night about 11 pm - shipped to my front door for the most reasonable cost of 247 frogskins.I connected it to my Technics receiver - via $70 worth of Monster Cable interconnect - and presto- instant eathquake. This baby gets low and loud , without losing it's composure . It was that night that I named my new Infinity BU150 - and BOOMER was his name-o . I recently upgraded to a new Kenwood digital receiver .I am now am even more pleased with my late night subwoofer purchase . Boomer is currently teamed with a pair of Acoustic Research P428PS'- as mains - and Inifinity SM85's as surrounds . The center channel duties are being handled by an JBL SC305. Boomer handles his resonsibilities with authority. Give him a job, either an AC-3 encoded DVD or an old cd - he comes through .
Yeah , he might get a bit warm to the touch, but so does the nightlight in my bathroom .
Me, I never judge the value or enjoyment of my equipment with instruments . My sole criterium is pleasure .
If you are in the market for a powered sub and can get a BU150 for about $300 - my advice is to bring it on home.

Great Price, lots of bass

I bought this baby from mercata.com for $275 shipped. What a bargain! This baby really rocks. I connect the AC power cord to the back of my yamaha dsp-a1 so that it is off while not in use. I am very happy with this SW.

Size, looks, power and sound

Had a problem with feedback until I had it serviced.

I replaced my 10 JBL with this monster and I must say, I FEEL the difference. I love being able to make my wife know that I am watching a movie when she is on the other side of the house. I ran this with regular cables for the first couple of days and then a friend suggested using a Monster THX subwoofer connect. Great improvement, sound seemed so much clearer and stronger, well worth the $40. The only problem I had was a rumbling when my sub wasn't even receiving a signal, I could unplug the cable and it would rumble. If I pushed on the back it would stop. My fix for awhile was to switch the sub 180 out of phase and then it stopped, I would then only switch it back when I was using it and this worked for awhile, but I finally took it in and had it fixed, now it works flawlessly. I must say I love this subwoofer and the rest of my Infinity system would be lonely without it.

Good for movie soundtracks with indescriminate bass,

I have this sub paired with RS-5 towers and CC-3 center channel, with which it blends exceptionally. I have used it with both a Sony and a Kenwood Digital reciever (2080, great deal at $247 @ ubid although the controller is awkward). My impression is that this sub does what it is intended to do, yet it lacks low bass and is not very musical. As someone else on this list mentioned, you almost want to adjust it every time for music or movies which bugs me. I also wish it would turn on sooner and at lower volumes.

I think that both the velodyne and alumapro are better products, but take into account that they cost more. Because of its price I would give it 4 stars, but then I realized I don't really enjoy this sub and while I won't stoop so low as to slam its performance, I will say it is lackluster due to port noise, lack of clarity and lack of extension when comparing it to most subs. I give it a 3

Need to turn up receiver to make led light turn green. Sub does not come with sub cable. You would think that it does, for the money you pay!

I am very happy with my purchase. Got it from Mercata for $247. What a deal for some serious bass. I have the Overture 3s, but the bass in them just was not all that, so now I have all the bass I need. Great deal for the buck!
