Strength:
Fantastic power
Weakness:
Lacks precision on certain types of music No other sub that sells for under $1,000 can match the output of the HPS-1000. On the depth-charge scene in the DTS version of U-571, it plays tight and with such power that those who hear it for the first time are left speechless. Of course, like most 15-inch subs, it is not built for speed, so if you value music more than movies, look elsewhere. For home theater, however, one would have to spend $2,500 or more to get a sub that is arguably its equal. Similar Products Used: M&K MX-125 |

Bass

This puppy is as big as a house. I know that some people have had LFE issues with this sub in the past. I have had no problems. I have a pretty large room 17 X 27 and was thinking that I still might need a second sub for this room, but the bass coming out of this unit is very impressive. I am completely happy with thi sub and would recomend to anyone. I can''t image hooking this baby up in a normal sized room. Similar Products Used: JBL, Klipsch, |

Strength:
Plenty of output, attractive styling
Weakness:
It''s a beast to move by yourself. Vinyl covering doesn''t appear to be very durable. Grill covers for the passive radiators would be nice. I was a little nervous about buying such a big, heavy item after having had FOUR PAIRS of speakers damaged in shipping. The sub arrived in perfect condition... brand new, no damage to the sub or the packaging... no broken feet either. At the time, I was re-locating & had my system in storage, so checked out the operation using the low-level outputs on my boom box! My theater system is in a room measuring approximately 14'' by 22'', I have the gain set to 5 on the sub & the gain on my receiver''s subwoofer output set mid-way. The room acoustics are very "LIVE" with terrazzo floors & bare walls, so I''m getting WAY too much reflection to comment on the accuracy right now. I''m afraid I can''t really compare it to my old home-made sub as it''s never been hooked up in my current listenig room. Works like a charm... definitely no problem with output. I wish the passive radiators had covers. Once I see them moving on especially bass-heavy passages, the windows start rattling & I have a tendency to turn it down as I don''t want to damage the drivers. My listening has been exclusively video so far. All in all, I''m pleased with the performance and value of my purchase. Shipping charges were a little high (thru U-bid), but that doesn''t reflect on the performance of the sub. |

Power, and excellent bass extension, seems very well built
Weakness:
Huge size and weight LFE problem, not here. I have had this sub for approx. 1 mo. and all I can say is my neighbors are really starting to hate me. When I read the reviews here I was a bit sceptical, but no more. THIS THING ROCKS!!!! With a gain of 6, and my riecever at 50% it is unreal. I have already broken a few things in my house because they vibrated off the walls and shelves. To anyone who can still get one,do it now!! Similar Products Used: velodyne 12", Infinity IL100 |

Strength:
Powerful, Accurate, Very musical, and price.
Weakness:
Size and weight - no auto-on. Received the sub with the LFE problem - Simply took it down to my local Infinity Service Center (located off of Infinty''s website)and got it back within a week. Simple fix and me waiting a week was no problem considering the amount of money saved on this unit. The sub is extremely fast and accurate. Very powerful. Works well with music which is pleasantly suprising. Built like a Sherman Tank - come to think of it - looks like a Sherman Tank. Weighs 90 pounds. I think it''s worth the risk of trying one out and getting it off of Ubid. Similar Products Used: AudioSource SW-15, Velodyne |

NONE SO FAR! I JUST RECEIVED MINE FROM UBID ON 5/31/01 FEDEX,OK FROM SHIPPING. ALL FINE EXCEPT FRONT GRILL MOUNTING BRACKET ON TOP RIGHT ISNT BEHIND PLASTIC GRILL,SO THERE IS A GAP THERE. TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET IN PLACE??? OTHERWISE IT IS EXCELLENT, WITH GAIN SET AT 6 PLAYED TERMINATOR 2 SPEC. ED. AND MY COUCH WAS VIBRATING LIKE CRAZY DURING GUNSHOTS,CRASH SCENES!!! WOW THIS BLEW ME AWAY! AT A GAIN OF 5 MUSIC HAS PLENTY OF BASS, SO EITHER UBID IS GETTING THE LFE PROBLEM FIXED OR I WAS LUCKY!! I'M USING A DENNON 3801 RECEIVER WITH LFE SUB OUT. ALSO I GOT IT FOR $449 PLUS 96 SHIPPING. UBID SAYS AT THERE SITE SHIPPING WEIGHT IS 96 POUND BUT FEDEX SHIPPING WEIGHT WAS LISTED AT 65 POUNDS!!! I E-MAIL THEM ABOUT THIS WEIGHT DIFFERENCE BUT NO REPLY SO FAR .. I HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE FROM THEM AND AFTER NOTIFYING THEM THEY DID REFUND THE DIFFERENCE ON OTHER OF MY ORDERS!!SO I SAY IT'S A HELL OF A DEAL FROM UBID IF YA BID SMART AS EVERY DAY THEY SEEM TO LIST THEM , I DID SEE AFTER I GOT MINE SOMEONE GOT THERE'S FOR $409..SO TO EVERONE OUT THERE I SAY GET ONE IF YOU CAN BEFORE THERE ALL GONE!!! NOW I NEED TO UPGRADE MY FRONT SPEAKERS, ANY SUGGESTIONS MY POCKET BOOK IS LOW SO I CANT SPEND OVER $500 FOR A PAIR.. BUT LIKE I SAID THEY BLEW ME AWAY! AND NO LFE PROBLEMS!!! GOOD LUCK!!!! Strength:
Power, beautiful deep bass, made in USA
Weakness:
while claimed response is up to 120 Hz, crossover can be adjusted up to 150... I purchased this sub last year. After I carefuly reviewed almost every sub I could find on the internet, and in the stores, I choose the Infinity. It was pretty interesting, because I never had a chance to listen to it, but I knew that it would meet my expectations. Similar Products Used: JBL, Magnat, KEF, Jamo |

Big and looks impressive, makes for a great table
Weakness:
1000 watts haha... Radio Shack used to sell roadmaster amps with a 1000 watts for $9 too. This unit is actually not that bad for a pre-made powered subwoofer. The gain is a joke though. Maybe mine is broken but I have never owned an amp that required the gain to be turned up to 70% plus just to get the thing to play at a decent level. This is no 1000 watt amp. I will say that it does make a great end table for my couch. I am a big Infinity fan. I love my kappa 8.1s but this sub was, well like every other sub I tried out, not as impressive as it looked on paper. I had my 18W6 in a sealed box and ran it off a keenwood krx-1000. That would put it at around 300 watts and it smoked my hps-1000 and even kept up with the velodyne hgs-18. Now, if only I could afford a 1000 watt rms amp to run my 18, and my friend hadn't flipped his car with it in it ;(, I would be set. It you want a pretty sub buy a velodyne. If your like me and listen to music and movies at sound leves that induce pain and seem to conjure visits by the local police... build your own. Good looks, deep bass and great value.
Weakness:
LFE input I could not pass up the opportunity to purchase this monster for 500.00. I saw all the previous posts concerning the LFE problems and figured they might be rare incidences. I was wrong. I was very pleased with the quality and sound of the sub when it was hooked up to my cd/dvd directly but when connected to the stereo LFE there was hardly a peep, even at a gain of 10. Level 2 with direct rca input from the cd player was deafing but I could turn it all the way up when through the LFE. I noticed after looking at spec sheets that the output signal strength (in volts) from my cd/dvd player was almost double that from the LFE out from the stereo. I figured why not boost the signal strength a little with a phono pre-amp and see what happens. Wow what a difference it made. I could move my chair with this thing and it was through the LFE output at level 2-3, problem solved. I know it sounds dumb to have to get a pre-amp to boost the signal to a $1,200.00 sub but hey I paid $500.00 + $19.99 (for the phono pre-amp) and have an awesome sub that will stand against any other sub set-up under $520.00. By the way you can get the little phono pre-amp at any Best Buy store for 20 bucks until infinity has a long term fix. Similar Products Used: Infinity overtures |
