I've had this sub for 11 years. The second amp just blew. 1st amp lasted about 2 years. This uniot is used light duty. Wired to a light switch, it isn't used much. I have owned JBL pro series gear for decades with the various bands I've been in. Never had issues other than blowing speakers. My own fault.

Great bass. Have it set up with Y cable. Never had a problem with it. I guess I was lucky compared with others. Bought it new from a relative that worked for Harmon Kardon. |

Strength:
earth shaking bottom ,ez to set up
Weakness:
very big drag when it craps out since all the speaker designers and marketeerers have pushed us away from speakers that have ba--s.So they kind of forced us into having to have subs cause the car speakers in my setup just wont handle the depth that my old speakers did ... total agreeance with rest of reviews.dsp-12 Monster bottom when it work's. I also have a bad amp in mine now and initaially looked on line for replacement to no avail. My regular service guy laughed at me when I asked him to fix it saying JBL would not sell him parts. Finally paid Best buy to look at the amp just to tell me what I already knew, the amp was blown and the module wasnt avaliable(I was under the strange notion that they would fix the amp but NO) So I finally expressed my frustration to a JBL tech this evening and after about 30minutes of L.D. on my nickel he finally tipped me off at a few directions .yes, he knew the amp was a dog but he couldnt say it in a direct manner, but the obvious fix was 1-if you have a reciever that will support it (x-over)buy a power amp of some sort and bridge mono or another reciever he kept saying which may be a option for me except I am not wild about sticking a power amp since I dont have the space in my rack..2-he told me to look at mcmelectronics.com and they may have something that would work.I did find a 139.00 sub amp that I am going to look at closer which may be a good option ,specs were 240w @8ohms and 340@4,I am going to look at this hts-12 I just read about too maybe this will help, and I would be really curious if there isnt some kind of product liability there?? |

Strength:
None!
Weakness:
Litteraly blows up whever a scene in the movie does! The worst sub ever made! I have had it in the shop longer than in my home theater! The JBL customer service and for that matter the Harman Kardan Co. is the worst I have ever delt with! They know they built a lemon but they will not take care of the people who have supported them by buying their products. I will never buy a Harman Kardon product again!!! Strength:
Sound Great when its working
Weakness:
Something is very wrong with the Power Amp module 60302. DOnt know when it repeatly fails after 4-6 months. I have owned the DPS-12 now for 3-1/2 years. The amp module 60302 has failed four time and I'm now looking for a replacement amp. The Sub sounds great, but the amp's a lemon. JBL service has been great..they have repaired this for me every time I called and have been very receptive to good customer service. Similar Products Used: All my other speakers are Klipsch |

Great foot rest
Weakness:
The way it sounds... DO NOT waste your time. The PB12 sounds very poor at best. I returned mine one week after I bought it.. My other sub (Definitive Technology Prosub 80) blows the PB12 out of the water. As you know the PB12 is 250 watts, 12" woofer. My Prosub 80 is 250 watts, 8" woofer. The Prosub 80 has so much thump it's sick. I'll put my 8" sub up against any 12" JBL sub. Before you jump to conclusions let me tell you, I’m fully aware of sub calibration and positioning. The PB12 was helpless. No mater what I did it sounded very muddy. No thump at all. The PB12 does even a worse job at playing music. All bass notes sound the same.. I have owned this sub for 14 months and unlike the next model year up which is the psw 112 i have not had any problems. I mean for the price it performs great. Just one more thing originally i had it hooked up from my pre-out on receiver to center in on sub, then i tried the "y" cable what a difference it seem to boost it up. Anyway in closing for the money it is a great sub. |

Strength:
As Greg in the earlier review mentions. This unit kicks, it shakes the concrete walls of my house. Amazing!! But I also had the same problems with the amp. Contacting JBL doesn't help. They don't respond. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. I'm really disappointed in the customer service and the reliability of this unit. The cabinet is well constructed cabinet though.
Weakness:
The amp and customer support The weakest parts are the amp, amp and finally the amp. It is a small unit that could not possibly produce 250 watts power as rated even if it was max power. The heart of the sub is one sealed metallic unit on the power amp board I'm sure would be expensive to replace if only JBL would get back to me with a cost. I've been told by electronics engineers who have attended shows in the US that the amps are available as generic units for $20 US. BELIEVE IT OR NOT.
