Strength:

Power, clarity.

Weakness:

See below.

I bought this sub at a local audio/video store and the total came out to over $300 AFTER I BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM THEM. This turned out to be a very smart move. I brought the sub home on a Sunday and over the next couple of days listened for maybe 5 hours. Wednesday I turned on my system (because sub lacks on/off switch have it directly plugged into my receiver) and it made the most horrible screeching sound and then nothing. Dead, Dead, Dead. I returned the sub the following day and the store gave me no problems about replacing it as I had purchased the stores warranty plan. The second sub has lasted for over a month and it sounds beautiful. This thing rocks my whole house and is amazing in dolby digital mode. I would be cautious about who you purchase this from as you may end up with a D.O.A. but for the price the sound is great. My rating is based entirely on my second working sub.

Strength:

Floor Firing, Very low for price, very durable, easy to set up and very loud

Weakness:

None, i dont whine like other people

Follow up review- People complain about the humming noise comming from a pb10. there is a very little one, but its not form cables or whatever (i have monster cable). i talked to some people and most subs do this, what you're hearing is all the power from the amplifier in there. And someone else said something about it not working w/ powe, wll i have an 80w out and that makes it 230 (80w + 150w=230w). It doesnt pop or hiss or whatever. its the best sub at best buy (not much competition) and its good. People who had pb 10s that didnt work probably poked a hole in the woofer. the floor firing is col cause it makes it feel more around you, my friends parents have a velodyne ct-120 and that thing rocks but its front firing. You dont feel it as much. but it goes to 90db at 20hz

Strength:

Sounds good enough for casual listening

Weakness:

It doesn't get used that much because it is always in the shop.

I'm really disappointed with this piece of equipment. I've only owned my JBL equipment (pair of S310's, pair of S26's, the S-series Center Channel and the PB-10 Sub)since March of 2001. In that seven months, the subwoofer has been in the shop twice. The second time I put it in the shop was August 4th, 2001 and I haven't seen it since. That's over 10 weeks!

To make matters worse, JBL customer service wants to replace it with another new PB-10 and won't even allow me to upgrade it to a PB-12 with me paying the extra costs. I'm really afraid of receiving another "lemon" for my $300 and a few more trips (actually vacations)to the authorized service center.

Needless to say, I'm very disappointed with the subwoofer and the way customer service is handling it.

Strength:

Great if you like loud popping noises and a digital gurgling sound.

Weakness:

Persistent hum. Terrible if you don't like loud popping noises and a digital gurgling sound.

Out of the box got nothing but loud popping noises and a strange digital gurgling sound. It died within a few minutes, but the hum remained. Maybe my second PB-10 will be better???

Strength:

High-output digital amplifier delivers higher output with lower distortion than conventional amplifiers.
Adjustable low-pass and high-pass controls allows the subwoofer to seamlessly blend with any speaker system

Weakness:

None So far - Maybe one is that the box did not bring the plug/cable to connect the subwoofer to the receiver

I own a Bose AM-15, with the addition of the PB-10, the audio on movies now is 150% better. How loud the PB-10 is? My surround sound system is on the back of the house (2500 sq.ft home). I was outside at the front of the house with two guys working on my yard and my wife was watching Independance Day. In one of those battleships scenes where the sound is very loud, the guys started looking up the sky wondering if it was going to rain because they just heard thunder. They didn't realize it was the PB-10. Awesome.

Strength:

Good Value

Weakness:

HUM

In general it offers good value. But I can't stand the hum when it's very quite and nothing is palying. I shut the thing off completely when not in use.
