Strength:

good in this 10" class subs

Weakness:

hum

it is good. You can read the review from cnet.com .
but hum bother me when it rests. Even after i changed to another one, the same.jbl tech suport email system is fast. they may even suggest me to take it to repair center.
What i do is connecting it to a surge protector. when not in use, i shut it off totaly. it also solve that problerm some one complains about no power off switch.
I set value to 12 o'clock. low freq. setting to 50hz
If someone also has this hum experience or other comments, let me know.

Strength:

Good sound, loud without distortion, extreme overall sound.

Weakness:

Rattles everything in my living room.(I guess that would mean NO WEAKNESSES)

I was extremely impressed with this unit, from the store to my house. I know that it cant come close to a Sunfire, but you could buy five of these to one of those. If you are on a budget, don t hesatate to buy this. I have owned quite a few JBL products, and this woud definately be the best value.

Strength:

Great for LFE, rumbles like no other. Goes great with my Bose AM 10 system.

Weakness:

It's not very musical, but I can live with that. Pops when the volume dial is turned more than 5/8's

This is a very good sub. It is real good for movies, and video games but is not very musical. It can't move fast enough and can't really get the higher bass frequencies. But who really cares??? I would like to know if you could hook an amp up just to the subwoofer? And what amp would be goood just for that??? Also how long does it take for this sub to break in??? my polk took about 3 months. anyone know??? Please email me with you answers.

Strength:

Wonderful deep, full bass with little distortion at high levels. Great looks. Great for music or home theatre.

Weakness:

there is no buzzing if you buy the MONSTER CABLE!

After reading the reviews posted here I purchased this sub at Best Buy with the fear that if it blew I was a mile away to return it for a replacement. As my luck would have it that's exactly what happened! Pop, Pop, Popping sound after a couple hours. I returned it and the replacement has been awesone! I would not recommend purchasing this unit online. The chances of something happening to this speaker during delivery seem likely. Shipping costs back to the online retailer could be expensive. My wife loves Jurassic and Gladiator dts (however the dog does not). Great bass at low levels. Upper echelon sub. Great bang for the buck even at Best Buy for $300!

Strength:

Great sound for both music and movies

Weakness:

Careful where you buy this thing - reliability is an issue!

This is a great sub that I bought at Best Buy. It hits hard enough when needed and rumbles when needed. It looks cool with its twin glowing LEDs to boot. However, this isn't the first PB-10 I've owned...

Against my own advice, I bought this thing online from BestPriceAudioVideo because I was tempted by their low, low price and I had good luck with the receiver I bought from them. This sub was a completely different story. As soon as I plugged it in, it popped and made this terrible rattling noise when it played. Returning it cost me over $40, since I only got the purchase price back and not shipping costs. Reading the reviews here, I see that almost everybody who has purchased this sub from BPAV has had similar problems. I asked the guy at BPAV about this (before buying) and he assured me that it was just a "bad batch" and that the problem has been eliminated. That was either a line of BS or they have more bad PB-10s. Whatever the case, dont risk it - cough up the extra dough and buy it from a place you can return it to without incurring shipping costs.

Regardless, this is a great sub. Exercise some care in where you buy from and you should be ok.

Strength:

Great sound the main reason im posting this is because of its ONE weakness

Weakness:

THE HUM

The monster cable does not stop the hum. I haven't tried connecting all the high and low inputs. What i have tried is plugging the subs (AC) into the back of my receiver and VOILA no hum because it only hums when the sub is on with no signal. BUT every time i turn it on, there is a little pop, a little pop. This makes me nervous because of previous reviews regarding little pops turning into broken speakers. Has anyone used the sub in this manner and had no problems for a prolonged period of time? (sorry for using this as a message board but a lot of people are concerned with the hum). Email me with an answer if you don't want to post for some reason. dbz5@alltel.net

Strength:

Great sound!! Bass is tight for music, but has the power for awesome HT.

Weakness:

Realiability

This is a fine subwoofer for the price. The sound is great and its so versatile. Unlike many subs I auditioned, I don't feel the need to turn this one off for music because it moves fast enough to keep up. Its also great for movies and can rattle the walls when called on!

A note about reliability - this is the second PB10 I've owned. The first one was mail order - big mistake! Got it home and had the "pops" and "gurgling" others have complained about. Do yourself a favor and buy this thing somewhere you can take it back if it goes bad. I don't know what JBL's problem with this thing is, but it's unfortunate people haven't been able to take advantage of such an otherwise great product.

I'm only going to rate my second (working) PB10, which is a great product.

iim planning on getting one of these but with all the bad reveiws im not sure but i have a qeustion...

ok if you switch it in the plug in the back of your receiver i believe that normally out puts 80watts.....so how could the amp take the 80 watts and make it into 150?

IT DOESNT WORK! well it might but its bad for your receiver i mean come on do you think that the amp runs off the power of air? no it doesnt your gonna mess up your receiver or sub unless you make sure you dont pump more than the recommended output of the switched plug on the back of your receiver well either way your not gonna get the fullness its ment to have if you plug it in the back of your receiver

thanks for taking the time to read this take my advice cause if you dont your gonna be sorry sooner or later..

Strength:

From what little i know of subs this is very good with deep sounding clear base. Scares me!

Weakness:

The treaded hum. Does hum while powered on with no signal. I am thinking of returning it for the PB-12 that don't hum from what reviews I have read.

Very good but being somewhat of a perfectionist I hate the hum. I don't believe you should spend this kind of money for an imperfect product. But as far as the sound goes and having nothing to compare it to I am very pleased. By the way the review is dated 5/23/2001

Strength:

price, musical response

Weakness:

hum, distorts when driven really hard

i haven't had any issues with the hum as of yet nor any reliabilty problems. I had this sub with the jbl 310's the s-center and the n-26's. I actually found the 10's on the front pair to have better mid-bass response and out perform on some 50-80hz selections. but, this is to be expected! 110 watts to 2 ten inch drivers compared to 1 ten inch sub. do the math. i added another pb-10 and WOW! i was able to turn them both down and get some very well driven, clean bass. No distortion or popping and house shaking low frequency response. This sub is very well suited to round out a good bookshelf speaker but cannot pull full duty with a larger set of front speakers. If you have the money to spend, which may lead you to opt for a more expensive sub, then buy two and you will not be dissappointed. Excellent for a Ht enthusiast or paired with bookshelf speakers in a smaller room.
