Strength:
Looks well made, nice finish, sturdy connection hardware.
Weakness:
DOA, brand new out of the box. Jumped on this deal when it was offered for $184 online. Just like the previous review, the red and green lights come on, but no sound is coming out of this thing. I've tried all the inputs and nothing. I guess its not that great a deal if you have to add $30 to ship a DOA back for replacement. Similar Products Used: Optimus Pro SW-12 |

Strength:
red and green lights look nice
Weakness:
Insufficient height to serve as an end table. Color doesn't match furniture in room. Plugged in power cord-- red lights come on. Plug in the sub out from receiver --red lights go to green (getting signal). Play DVD. Nothing. Nada. Nil. Zilch. Zero. Hook old subwoofer up. No problems. Going back to vendor. This pb12 really good when it sounds
Weakness:
TOO MUCH HUM EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A GOOD SOLID GROUND IN MY HOUSE. This pb12 really good when it sounds. It really sucks when it crapped on me 13 month (after the warranty expires). Spoke to the customer service at JBL, they could not do anything. I have tried several customer reps. and still none. The customer service were USELESS!. Instead of trying to help me, they would try to sell me another one. Come on, the unit CRAPPED on me a month after the warranty expires. Don't buy this S#@&. Strength:
very clean bass recommend if your hooking up 2 or more subs use the speaker level inputs,, so you get left and right bass responses
Weakness:
none really maybe a bigger amp But most of you light weight's can't handle it anyways I have had these subs for 5 months and no problem..... My system: Maratz 7.1 amp 3 pairs of s36 studio jbls S-center jbl And 4 Jbl pb-12 in each corner of ht-room For this set up you need and voltage cleaner and stabilizer. But ya those subs are the same they use- to use in the theater's, im not sure and more. Similar Products Used: cerwin vega studio 15's AR sucks |

Strength:
Nice for movies and music. All the features an enthusiast needs. Goes pretty darn deep when it's not blowing amps. Nice sound for the price.
Weakness:
Doesn't go *quite* deep enough for some bass in some music. Amps seem to last a max of 6-13 months Well, this is it. I'm done with this stupid thing. First - I have to say that when it's working, this sub is pretty sweet. It handles the low stuff nicely in both movies and in music. It's nice that it's got the LFE switch, too. I was really happy with it when it was working. But therein lies the problem... I bought my first PB12 in 2000 from a vendor online. Within the first couple of days, the auto-shutoff function wasn't working. The LED's stayed green constantly. I got a replacement sub in the mail, and it worked for exactly 13 months - JUST enough for the warranty to run out. It just died. Completely. No LED's, no sound, no nothing. Fortunately, I talked to a really nice guy at JBL and he arranged for it to be fixed under warranty. Again, it worked GREAT for about 6 months. Now it's developed the infamous "morse code" problem. Whenever the power is on, it makes these loud flatulence-like sounds, and a big WHUMP if you turn it off. Fantastic. So this makes THREE amp sections that have died on this stupid thing, and I'm done with it. I'm moving on. Similar Products Used: KLH 10 |

Strength:
Great LFE...brings movies to life.
Weakness:
Product is unreliable. It would be a great product if it lasted. I bought the JBL PB12 about a year ago, via the Internet. I loved this unit...great for my home theater system. A couple of weeks ago my wife woke me up in the middle of the night to go downstrairs and investigate some noises. The noise was coming from the JBL PB12...the "morse code" that has been referred to by other reviewers. If there are a lot of other having this problem, it seems clear that there is a flaw in the product. Personally, I'd steer clear. Fun while it lasts
Weakness:
Doubles as an alarm clock, without the clock. Well, it's 4:30 in the morning and I was awakened by strange sounds. I got up to investigate. Imagine my delight as I proceeded downstairs to listen to what I thought were extra terrestrials communicating in some kind of morse code! I was disappointed not to see any aliens in my family room. The interesting noise was my PB12 that was fried in the middle of the night. Before I bought this damn thing, I read every single review about it. Many consumers advised that this happenned to them. I said to myself "it's not going to happen to me because a) I don't crank up the bass and, b) I listen at a moderate volume". Well, that obviously didn't matter. I'm convinced that if it happenned to me it could happen to you, so, let the buyer beware! If you're content with just 9 months of bass pleasure then this sub is right for you. Otherwise, keep looking. I'd like to say thanks to my JBL sub for waking me up in the middle of the night and annoying me just enough that I can't go back to sleep and have to write my feelings in AudioReview.com for therapy. Now, it's 4:40 and I must figure out how to come to terms with how the quality of my life will be changed without a subwoofer. |

Strength:
nice bass...rich and deep
Weakness:
poor quality in parts and labor my girlfriend got me this sub for my birthday and to tell you the truth I was so happy when I got it, after hooking it up and getting it all ready I watched saving private ryan cause its one of the movies that has the most bass that came to the top of my head and it was fantastic. However about 2 or 3 weeks later I was in the middle of watching lord of the rings and I heard this loud pop and the sub shut off on me. I was really upset. Now I have to bring the sub to get it fixed and pay for it since etronics its an authorized retailer and jbl doesn't honor their warranty cause the product wasn't purchased at an authorized retailer. So my advice, well I don't have any. Maybe I got a dud, what can I say? I have all of my speakers that are jbl's and i dont have any problem with those. Just if I can give any advice from this is .... Spend the extra couple of dollars and buy it form an authrized retailer and save your self a headache. |
