Strength:
This is a kick ass sub that is worthy of the JBL name.
Weakness:
Even if it does take a dump on me, the money I saved will more than make up repair or (hopefully not) replacing it. It is very interesting to me to read the reviews of this subwoofer. The only thing I have noticed in the time that Ive had it is the incredible wall shaking power it has. 1. I have always run it through a surge protector and only turn it on when I was using it. 2. I have never turned the control on it past half way( and I can hear the bass on my system clear as a bell in the middle of the street(50ft from source in summer with windows open, with volume control on my system only at half way)). 3. I have always kept the phase at 0. I can sympathize with users having problems with products, but you all seem like a bunch of poncey hairdressers with your smegma wailings. As one reviewer said," dont throw it out, fix it." If you are incapable of handling a screwdriver or soldering iron then find somewhere else to have your fragile egos mothered. I for one do not care to hear your shrill whines. Footnote: If you live with 7 cats the metal grill is omnipotent. Similar Products Used: none and I hope I never have to. |

Strength:
Good sound, when it works.
Weakness:
The crappy capacitor that is causing the problems. My value rating would be much higher, if it actually worked! What a piece of crap. When it works, it works well, however it's crapped out 3 times now, with the same problems everyone else is experiencing - the loud motorcycle/machinegun-like whopwhopwhopwhop even if it isn't receiving a signal. The first time it was on warranty, the 2nd time cost me $150, the 3rd time, I'm complaining to JBL and I guess I'll have to see what happens. If they won't replace it, I sure won't buy another JBL product. |

Strength:
Great sound, phaze switch, multiple inputs for configuration. Awesome unit for $150 bucks.
Weakness:
What the H$LL were you thinking ????? Too bad it can't take being used !!!! Well, after reading these reviews and laughing 'till I cried, I had to write one. I, similar to others, was awoken in mid-nights sleep to what now reminds me of the F-16's that went up on September 11th at full attack speed. Yes, C6 cap blew on mine, and I think I know the reason. This capacitor is only rated for 75w RMS, and it should be a 100v rated for 150w RMS if you use it hard (loud). This solution courtesy of a great tech in my town. He replaced it with another 50v, an experiment due to the replacement cap being twice the physical size of the original (which will be replaced with a 100v if it blows again). Is the engineering staff not doing their equipment design reviews or complete testing at JBL these days ???? Too much loud bass has turned their brains into scrambled eggs. I hope this/these idiot(s) got fired. Even a mechanical engineer figured that out !!! I am also using a power relay switch to power on/off. Worth a try. Similar Products Used: Yamaha club Series, Sony, Boston Acoustics All been bullet proof and used and abused. |

Strength:
Well, it played loud while it worked. Manufacturer's customer service.
Weakness:
No external heat sink, unreliable, and a fire hazard. Didn't sound THAT great when it did work. Boomy and short on detail. This is more of a testimonial for the Harmon International customer service department than a review for this piece of sh*t subwoofer. I used this sub for approximately 7 months before a couple of capacitors burnt out and the d*mn thing woke me up in the middle of the night with the impression that I was under attack. Sent a few p*ssed-off e-mails to Harmon, and while they were a bit slow (around 1 month) to act, they did eventually make it right. Sent it in with my attempted Radio Shack hackjob fixes still in place, and they sent me a brand new Infinity Entra Sub at no charge to me whatsoever. The Infinity sub, while perhaps not the absolute best in the world, has performed reliably for 2 years. Similar Products Used: Infinity Entra Sub. Not sure how the prices compare, but it is vastly superior to the JBL unit. |

Hmmm.. I've had this sub for over 2 years without a single problem. It sounds great and has been very reliable, unlike most of the reviews I've seen here. |

Strength:
Was ok until about 2 am.
Weakness:
Its not wotking. I guess I am not alone. In the middle of the night mine started to rummble. At first I though a jet engine fell off a plane and landed in the backyard. The kid sleeped through the whole thing, of to be 6 again. i opened it up to find two caps had blown and some others looked burnt as well. Waiting for jbl to get back to me about repair costs. My last jbl purchase for sure. What if I wasn't home and my house burnt to the ground? |
