Strength:

Sonds great, inexpensive

Weakness:

It is a piece of junk!

I bought this Sub as a part of a home theater package when I moved into my new home. It sonds GREAT. The picktures on my wall would vibrate. It sonded best when viewing the Matirx. About 3 weeks ago, after about 15-17 months of use, it BLEW UP! Sounds like the exact same thing that's happend to most of us. If anyone owns this Sub and it still works, I would highly recomend unplugging it when not in use. It will scare the hell out of you when it finaly desides to blow.

Strength:

Great sound for home theater...hits very low for its size

Weakness:

Blew up after a year and 5 months

I loved this sub while it lasted. My wife came home with our 6 month old while being gone most of the day. She thought the house was on fire. She could hear a loud buzzing sound from the garage... and smoke out of the sub was coming out for who knows how long. I arrived home to find our front door and all our windows open. I can still smell it after 5 hours. Who knows...maybe our whole house could have burn down! JBL needs to fess up on this one...let me know if anyone has succeeded in winning the battle with JBL. There is no excuse for not taking care of the customer when it is the company at fault!

Strength:

Very accurate digital amp, High & Low Pass corssovers, Great power, Price

Weakness:

Large footprint

Fantasic Powered Sub...

I got it as floor model from a local electronics store for $225. It retails for $349 at a few other stores in my area, so i know i a good deal. It has replaced my Polk Audio PSW120 with improved power(150w)and accuracy from the digital amp provided. The Polk was a great Sub, But not enough power for me, only 90w, And the price was more then $225. When I got the JBL home and set it up, I put on END OF DAYS and my room began to tremble as the explosions began. It was bass that pounds in your chest. I loved it. It's also great for music. The high pass crossover allows your reciever to work more efficiently, giving you better highs from your fronts, center and surrounds by not sending the bass back to the reciever. The PSW D110 matches any speaker system very well. This sub has nice features for the price and I would recommend this sub to anybody...

It is highly recommended that you use a good Sub cable to get better performence. You will notice a difference

Strength:

Tight low bass and auto on/off as well as brand

Weakness:

Size of king kong but if you have room for it....great

The 10 inch sub packs in a major blow when watching your movies. My chair was vibrating when I was watching End of Days and the volume on the sub was a little below half....wow...i paid 299.00 for it at bestbuy. There is an automatic on/off in the sub which notifies you with a green light when there is a signal and a red light when there is not. During the course of a movie, their might not be a signal requiring the sub's low bass but don't worry if it turns red thats normal. As soon as explosions or car chases accur as an example, be rest assured that green light will turn on. Awesome rumbling sound. It's a huge sub but great sound. I highly recommend this sub to anyone who wants to experience the pounding bass in movies. WATCH JURASSIC PARK with this sub...AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Well! I was so glad to see that I was amongst others who had experienced the same WHOMP! WHOMP! WHOMP! that I had. The Sub is great when it's turned on and working. Great feel! Unfortunately, mine "Morphed" into the old helicopter trick as did others who wrote in. I made the Circuit City repair visit as the others also hoping it would be in the >$50.00 nieghborhood. It wasn't. More like $150.00. Needless to say I had them return it. Looking for a good source for the Amp module now. I really like it and want to keep it. If I can find a schematic and parts supply, I'll be in business. You know, one last thing. It would seem like JBL would come out of the woodwork and anti-up to the defect in their amplifier modules and make restitution (or at least offer up a modification?). Oh well, the journey continues!

Just an update for any potential buyers. The model year was actually 1999 although I don't think it matters. I was told finally today that Circuit City is refunding my money because the sub was unrepairable (They've ordered 4 pages worth of parts and its still not fixed). This is after two months of my calling and complaining to the service center and the local store.

JBL does not care and will not admit they have a faulty design. I was contacted by a JBL customer service rep after several e-mails to their website. He asked for amplifying information to "correct" the problem. That was two weeks ago and he has neither "corrected" the problem nor returned subsequent e-mails.

Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for a powered sub. Although this one sounds great and is affordable, it is too big a crap shoot as far as reliability is concerned.

Strength:

Very strong bass for a 10".

Weakness:

No on/off switch.

I am very happy with the sound this sub puts out. Sound great with movies. I haven't had any problems with it yet and that's after about a year now, hope it stays that way, but I doubt it from what I've read. I have another powered sub, a Yamaha but it is only 90 watts and the JBL sounds much better of course.

Strength:

Low price

Weakness:

A little sloppy, runs out of headroom easily.

Ok, ok, I read the reviews, but bought one anyway. The price was right... It's an ok sub, one I plan on replacing (hopefully before it blows up like everyone else's...) when I can afford a better one (donations for a new Sunfire gladly accepted!). Sounds fine with movies, muddy and a tad boomy with music. I spent a week tweeking it with various placements and x-over settings, and finally dialed it is about as well as possible. While I wouldn't recommend it, it doesn't suck too bad. :)

Strength:

Gives good vibrations, esp. the Omaha Beach sequence in "Saving Private Ryan", fighter scene in "The World Is Not Enough".

Weakness:

Died after 16 months. JBL is fixing for free even though the warranty expired.

I was very pleased with the JBL PSW-D110 until it died this week. Called JBL Customer Service (1-800-336-4525) and they promised to fix it under warranty even thought it expired four months ago. We'll see.

I tried the Sony SA-WM40 and the JBL definately "feels" better.
