Strength:

Deep powerful bass.

Weakness:

Driver construction a bit cheap. Heavy as lead and huge. Need to match with full range speakers.

You do not so much hear this sub as feel it. It will cause your pictures to fall from the walls, give you pets a nervous breakdown, and attrid the structural integrity of your home. After getting this "thing" setup correctly, I proceeded to listen to every deep DVD bass scene I could think of. Whether its an Imperial Battle Cruiser passing overhead or T-Rex sneeking up in JP, this sub does its job.
If my other speakers were not full range (Cerwin Vega and Klipsch) I do not think I would get accurate, full range, bass with this sub alone. The JBL does not handle upper bass levels very well, but at the bottom of the range this speaker really excels.

Strength:

Sound quality, very low lows, not boomy.

Weakness:

None found yet.

Bought this for a room that eats low freq sounds. I had this hooked up to a Yamaha DSP-1. The lows sucked. Thought it was a problem with the sub. I ended up replacing my Bryston 4B and others with a Newcastle 925 DTS/AC3 reciever. After I hooked the sub up to it the sound really blew me away. The sound is very low with no boom to it. When I hear crashes or explosions you can feel it in your bones. My neighbor lives about 100 feet from me. He come over when he hear/felt the sound. Very happy would recommend buying it and enjoying it. I listen to movies only with it. I have it turned up all the way. I have not "yet" had any problems with it. I wonder if it's due to hooking it up wrong? The quality of the signal makes a difference. Mine is perfect for me.

Strength:

Clean, smooth bass

Weakness:

Less impressive volume than expected for a 350W powered sub

Well, I only got this speaker because I got two refurbs for $170 and so far I have been impressed. I was a little disappointed with the volume that the sub put out on its own as it was barely louder than my old 80W powered sub. Besides this minor disappointment, the PSW-115 effortlessly reproduce the deepest of bass with no distortion or thudding of cheaper powered subs. As far as reliability goes, I haven't owned them long enough to speak on that. Since mine were refurbished, maybe I won't experience the same issues as others.

Strength:

I got my money back

Weakness:

Really big and poorly built

I would not recommend this sub to anyone. I have read other posts that tell of it fizzling out, and mine did the same thing after 32 days. What's really bad is that I never had it turned more than half way up. On top of that, it was never used at higher volumes for more than 2 hours at a time, and these times occured when watching a movie once a week.
The power died while watching sitcoms at low levels. I took it back to Best Buy and they agreed to give store credit even though it was several days past the 30 day exchange period.
If you absolutely must have this sub, keep an extra $400 laying around so you can replace it when it breaks.

Strength:

the sub has the a ablity to play (in a move setting) dolby digital and dts low frequancys farly crisp and deap and in a small room rattle any thing that is not tied down.

Weakness:

i dont know where to start there are so meany but to make this a long story short ill start to remind you people that you only get what you pay for and i work hard for my money so case and point being that the sub when i first got it sounded great and i was pleased with it and for about 6 mounths it did its job as expected with the price i payed for it i was over all pleased hell i was exstattic this sub thumped.....................latter about 6 mounths..never really playing the sub for longer than 2 hours i lett the thing thump stedy past the 2 hour mark and i went out side to wash my car time goes by i go back in side only to heir my SUB MAKING A LOW FREQ LEVEL HUM QUITE LOUD, PISED I SHUT IT OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AGGEN THE HUM WAS STILL THERE AND IN A RAGE I SHUT OFF THE HOLE SYSTEM AND WENT OUT SIDE TO CHILL FOR A MOMENT IN SILENCE!!! THINKING IS THIS MY MONEY WORKING AGENST ME, BECOUSE I SPENT WELL OVER 500 BONES ON THIS THING AND FOR IT TO CRAP OUT ON ME IN 6 MOUNTHS IS QUITE FRUSTRATING.........SO AFTER ABOUT A HALF HOUR OF BEING PISSED I WENT IN SIDE TO TRY AGGEN AND ILL BE DAMED IT WORKED HUMMMM I THOUGHT WHAT COULD HAVE CASED THIS PROB I DID NOT HAVE IT UP LOUD ENOUGF TO HAVE DISSTORSHION FOR THAT PERIOD OF TIME SO WHAT REALLY HAPPED I DONT KNOW I DONT WANT TO OPPEN THE BACK UP AND TAKE A LOOK OR EVEN PUT A METTER ON IT IN FEAR OF VOIDING MY WARRENTEE SO I CAN ONLY Take a guess what happed!!!!!!

1. good for movies with a digital signal low freqancy effect output and thats about all it is good for!

2.if you like rocken roll or mettle this sub is useless it sound's horable

3. if you like rap this sub is all right at the price 500 it will thump a 20 by 15 room

::::::::::::::::::::and the only reason i give the sub a 3 star overall rating is if i dont get hasseled when i take it in to get fixed and it sound as it should when there done!::::::::::::::::::

Strength:

Low bass response

Weakness:

None

I have read reviews of the JBL PSW-D11X series on this site regarding amps getting blown out. So far so good. By the way, any one have an insight into why my D115 is labeled with 450 Watts on the back panel, when the manual states 350 Watts?

JBL changed their manual for PSW-D112 and PSW-D115 recently. Specifically the method of LFE/sub-out from a DD/DTS receiver to the subwoofer. The old manual recommended an LFE to to the "DIRECT" RCA jack on the sub. The new D112 manual recommends an LFE to Line-In Left and Right via a Y-splice, and a D115 LFE to Line-In Center connection. The "Direct" RCA jack is now labeled "DIRECT OUT" on the back panel, and is for the purpose of daisy-chaining to another sub. Therefore, anyone not paying attention to this detail will certainly get their sub amplifier fried!!!

You can download the new manuals on the JBL website, jbl.com.

Strength:

Huge bass output, High pass speaker and line level outputs.

Weakness:

Big as hell! and mine died!

Got this from Best Buy for $229. It was the last unit in stock, and a floor model at that. Great Performance/Price ratio! Produces gobs of bass output, even outperfoming my Sunfire Signature Sub at the higher frequencies (60-100 Hz). If you're thinking about any of the D series JBL subs, or the new infinity subs, make sure you get an extended warranty, because the digital amps they use are prone to fail. Mine died after I had it only 3 weeks. The extended warranty came in handy. It was only $30 extra, but if you figure in the shipping charges you would incur, it will pay for itself after only one use. Best Buy fixed it in a little over 2 weeks, and the form that came back with it said the main amp module had to be replaced. In summary, Great performing sub, but suspect amp design. One star off for the reliability issues.

Strength:

Wide assortment of inputs; Left, Center, Right speaker-level and line-level. line level outs to chain multiple subs. Amp gets warm but not hot.

Weakness:

Sloppy-sounding bass, gigantic cabinet, does not auto-power off. Cheap 15" driver.

This sub may pack some punch for movie explosions and sub-sonic vibration below 70Hz, but don't expect this speaker to add to your music enjoyment. Anything above 70Hz just seems to rumble at the same frequency. At loud volumes it only gets worse. You can't differentiate bass guitar musical notes from one another with this sub.
The 15" woofer is cheap paper & foam - no butyl rubber. It gets really raspy and sloppy around 180Hz.
I shoved a towel in the rear port which helps tighten it up a little bit (also 1/2 the volume though) and I still don't care for it. I may remove the JBL 15" and try replacing it with some other brand.
The amp is supposed to be 350W, class D (digital) so it should be efficient. It has no outside heat sink. I never cranked it up loud because it didn't sound good, but I'm sure the amp is decent. The amp is warm to the touch. It's supposed to go into a low-power mode but it doesn't seem to. It does POP when you first turn it on, but it's not so loud as to destroy the speaker.
The enclosure is very large, larger than most end tables.

I paid $329 from ecost.com with free shipping (with total order over $500.) But I still wouldn't consider that a deal for this.

Strength:

Powerful Bass, Great Lows, Mine is a rock - abuse didn't bother this Sub.

Weakness:

Huge!

This is a follow up review. Contrary to what other reviews said about this SUB, my sub went to all kinds of tests, like the removal of its Integrated circuits from the circuit board then replaced the components with better ones just to see if it will still work. Then, I performed stress tests by cranking up the volume, allowing it to be turned on for a long period at a time. The amp got so hot during my tests but its sound didn't flinch a bit. The circuit board is made to allow insertion and removal of components several times. I am just so happy that this Sub is so versatile and dependable. End of review.
