Strength:

Cheap, loud, easy to set up, good size (not too heavy), did I mention cheap?

Weakness:

Boomy

Saw it at Costco, wondered if it was good. Web search gave me this site, and I realized I had to buy it. My father-in-law bought one at the same time, but his sounded
horrible. He returned it, and the new one sounds great.
No annoying wump when power is turned off, as some have complained about.
I'm interested in how Tim O'Connell (review posted at top)
put poly-fill in his to reduce the boominess. I'd love to do it, but scared to crack mine open, and have read that you want to use sheets versus "fill" on a ported design. Any help would be appreciated, but this woofer is nonetheless a fantastic bargain.
My neighbor loves it so much, he's going to get one for him and his son (for his birthday.)

Great sound, incredible value

Like all of the others who reviewed this product, I was in the market for a quality sub at a bargain price. I had looked at models by Aiwa and Infinity and then saw this one, the KLH ASW-10 at Costco for only $99.00. I was skeptical of the quality at first but figured that if I didn't like it I could always return it. Like many of the others who have already commented, I experienced some popping sounds when I first hooked the sub up to my Sony receiver. However, after checking and reattaching the speaker wires the popping completely went away. The sub also makes some minor rattling sounds when played at high volumes but after some tuning with the crossover and volume controls it absolutely rocks! I'm sure there are better subs out there for hundreds more but for the money you absolutely can't touch the KLH for sound or quality!

Strength:

value, feels like a rock

Weakness:

probably an oldsmobile not an astin martin

ya know, you can always do better if you have more money! that's true of almost everything, but i'm glad KLH made it possible for me to have a powerful powered sub for the first time. it does a hell of a job in my system. i live in an apartment and quite frankly i have to keep a leash on it or it'll shake the neighbors dishes of their table.
so you get a pop from the standby mode when it kicks in, so what! if that's the only thing i have to worry about to get an impressive bottom end to my system, i'm happy.

Strength:

Great Price (Costco $99.00, like everyone else)

Weakness:

I had to take the first one back because one of the speaker wire clamps broke off when I took it out of the box.
Slight rattling sound when played at high levels.
I live in an apartment,I bet my neighbors are not to happy with this product.

I convinced my dad to get one for his home theater and right when I heard it I rushed out and purchased one for my own home theater. The only thing that I was disappointed about was the slight rattling, and how it gives a popping noise when it automaticly shuts off. Also, there was a deep scratch on the side of the replacement one. Besides that it is the best sub for the money ($99!?!?), actually it was the only sub at that price. I love KLH and I am going to replace all of my Pioneer speakers for KLH.

Strength:

The price was right. Only $99.00 at Costco

Weakness:

Popping noise

I really like the sound there is just one problem. When I set it to automatically shut off when there is no activity there is a popping noise that the relay makes. I have send the amp to KLH and they sent me another but it does the same thing. They were very friendly and a good company to deal with maybe I will beable to resolve this in the future with them

Strength:

The price!!! Similiar model at Best Buys is selling for $199.99. Get it at Costco for $99.00!!!

Weakness:

The dampening foam inside box is not enough.

This 10" 120 watt powered subwoofer is at an excellent price at Costco. The first thing I did was removed the face panel and removed the four screws that hold the woofer. Lifted the woofer out to the side and removed the cheap dampening material outta there. In its place I found some attic insulation and installed inside. And now I have myself some tight Bass and a powered sub that competes with the $300 and up powered subs. It has all the features you need, 50hz-150hz adj. crossover, reversing phase, on-off-auto switch, volume control and rubber feet. It'll operate at 30hz-150hz. Get em while they last. You will not be dissapointed for $100 bucks and a lil modification.

Everything

Well, don't believe the crap the guy below has said. I had the volume not even half way up on the sub and it died after 3 weeks! This is not abuse, it is normal use. I am sure a few people have abused their sub but the majority has not. KLH has made an inferior product that has yet to be recalled or taken off of the market.

Until they can fix their amp problems STAY AWAY from this sub! Yes it is cheap and does sound decent when working but you end up getting what you pay for - CRAP! It makes you wonder why people fill this sub with cheap insulation that probably if KLH was smart they could do it for a buck themselves! It just goes to show that the management at KLH sucks as much as their speakers!

Check the reviews on the Sony SAw-40 sub, highly rated!
Save yourself time and frustration and get the higher (much) quality Sony for only about $50 bucks more.

One more time KLH subs SUCK!

Strength:

may sound good after modification, but why should you have to?

Weakness:

auto on is unpredictable, hollow cabinet has no dampening, and bass reflex port is cardboard

Sound familiar? If you have one of these and it still works take it back to where you bought it and get the Sony. If you remove the driver and look inside the box it is apparent this unit is CHEAP. If you stuff the cabinet with a pillow or similiar material it will sound better, but then you have to worry about the amp blowing. Do yourself a favor and exchange it for something else while you have the time. If you bought it from uBid or some place like that I hope you got a good one. It doesn't sound bad after some modification. Also, try placing the unit on a solid concrete or patio block. This tightens up the bass.

Cheap-ass piece of sh*t!

I bought this at Best Buy after listening in the store it sounded like a good buy at $110. I got it home and watched 4 movies in 2 days and the amp fried! No sound, nothing!

DO NOT BUY THIS! Mine was the 120B series, it is crap also. KLH is the worst damn company to ever make a sub.

Save some money and get the Sony which has worked great for me! It cost more (around $180) but you save time and frustration!

KLH SUCKS!
