none so far

Just a follow-up review. After a couple days' use, I am satisfied with the sound. There are two very minor problems I've noticed tho. When in power auto-on mode, power won't be switched on if receiver's volume is very low. Also, when sub is turned off, 3 seconds later it releases a sound like a fart. first I thought it's defective, but the sub is working fine. I guess the "farting" is normal.

Strength:

Sounds great, and is easily adjustable.

Weakness:

The subs volume has to be set at least half way to sustain a desired level of bass.

Overall, a high quality sub, at an atractive price. It sounds very clean and has low distortion. I've owned it for a while now, and have no complaints. It performs very well in a home theather, as well as in an audio only envirnoment. I highly recomend this speaker for the consumer who has a mid-priced system, and prefers better than average performance. It blends in with the main speakers, with minimum hassle. A great sub.

Strength:

Strong & Deep bass, easy setup, high-quality components, looks nice

Weakness:

None as of yet

I purchased the KSW12 from my local audio shop after reading the reviews here. I couldn't be happier. I paid a bit more to buy locally, but thought it was worth it to support the place I tested various speaker systems and to make sure the warranty is in order if needed. About the unit, all I can say is it sounds great. I mainly use it for movies, probably about 80-90%, and I would say it blows the doors off of my neighbors Yamaha el-cheapo from Best Buy. It simply rocks. I love sitting on the couch and ++feeling++ the bass all around me. The down-firing sub also provides the great advantage of being able to place it wherever you want. For aesthetics, I place it near the couch next to me, but I wouldn't be able to tell it's source if I didn't know where it was.

I should also note that in the store, it sounded better to me personally then some of the higher subs from other manufacturers. I even went so far as to purchase a new Klipsch center channel and two new fronts. For the money, I couldn't be happier. My system sounds great, and I easily stayed in my budget.

WOW! I cannot believe the value that the new Klipsch Line of Subs provides. After auditioning the entire line, KSW's 10, 12, and 15, I settled on the 12 because I felt it was the best value for my environment.
At first blush, I thought that this sub was underpowered and considered purchasing the KSW15 just because it offered more power. I can say without doubts that the KSW12 is far from underpowered. If you're going to pair this sub with anything rated at 95db or less it has all the power you will need.

My system consists of Klipsch KSB3.1 mains, KSCC1 Center, KSB1.1 rears, and the KSW12 -- the electronics are a Yamaha R-V905 Dolbly Digital reciever (5x70 watts) and a Pioneer 414 DVD player. All of the speakers are configured on the reciever as small speakers which electronically routes all frequencies below 90Hz at a slope of 12db per octave. On the sub the crossover frequency is set to max, 120Hz.

I used a couple of DVD Movies to adjust the bass to optimal level which turned out to be dead on 3 -- Right in the middle. After listening to music at that setting I discovered that 3 is too high for music but instead of altering the setting I tried different locations and found a good compromise about 2 feet from a corner of the room.

Make no mistake about the capabilities of this speaker it can raddle everything in my house! My listening room is the den area which is open to the kitchen and breakfast area. In all the room is appoximatly 14'x32' with the listening area being at one end projecting down the length of the room.

During the 'Be the ball' scene in Antz, the ball swinging sounds tremendous. As the ball passes the room quakes with low frequency effects. At the beginning of The Replacement Killers there is a very deep low frequency effect that audibly shook everything in the room -- the windows and kitchen cabinets rattled extremly audibly. Gun shots during that movie sounded unbelievably authentic. I cannot begin to describe the truly awesome ability of this sub to reproduce explosions. It all comes off sounding totally effortless as well.

Music reproduction is also good, maybe not as awe inspiring as movie soundtracks, but still very good. Rock music suffers the most while jazz, classical, and tropical toons come off sounding very clean and deep. The only complaint here is that I can seem to get the bass adjusted well for video or music, but to adjust for both is to compromise both.

I should note one very minor problem here as well. The sub is supposed to come on after 5 seconds after a signal is detected. However, in actual use it can take as long as 30 seconds. In most cases it does come on relativly quickly though (5 to 15 seconds).

While working out the room rattles I discovered that the little round felt pads used in velcro packages works well behind pictures and on cabinet doors to dampen the rattles. I tried several times to quiet the rattling of the wall plate for my DSS plugs -- Still no solution at this time though. Windows, glass cabinet doors, and light fixtures are still a problem too.

Strength:

rich bass, lost of power and a good price

Weakness:

its boomy BEFORE braking it in

When I got this it was a bit boomy. If you just keep it turned low for the first week or two it will sound great after that. This sub gose perfect with my RC-3, RF-3, and RS-3 Klipsch speakers.

Strength:

Great, articulated lows. Tight. Compact enclosure.

Weakness:

No variable phase (just 0 or 180)

It took me awhile to get this setup and placed right, but the payoff was enormous and rewarding. without a variable phase control, placement was critical. These will go nice and low, and also produce surprising musical quality above 80Hz without getting muddy. Just avoid the temptation to turn the volume up too high. Let them do what they're supposed to: produce LOWs.

If you demo these, listen to them with SRV's Riviera Paradise - that track will weed out the loser subs like a mole on crack.

Great sub! Enjoy.

Great sounding bass, low frequencies, and down-firing design

Weakness:

Of course-None

During the past year I have beeen building a home theater system and recently purchased the RF-3, RC-3, and RS-3's from the Klipsch Reference Series. By adding this awesome sounding subwoofer only made things more unbeliveable. Can't wait until JP comes out on DVD!
