I just picked this sub up today for $250.00 and it is worth every penny. So much bass for so little price seems unreal. It seems to flow flawlessly with my KLF-20's, KSB-1.1, KSF-C5, and KSB-S1. These speakers mated to my Yamaha DSP-A1 have sealed a relationship that will last for many years to come. This really is a bad a#@ sub for the price. No doubt! 5 STARS!!!

Strength:

deep, tight and very accurate bass

Weakness:

none so far

I have had this sub a little over a month now and I could not be happier. At first I bought the KSW-10 and was not impressed with it at all. I went back and for an extra hundred bucks got the 12" and the bass seemed to triple. Anyone who is looking for some serious bass, stay away from the 10 and go with the 12. Highly recommended......

Strength:

Shakes the whole house, but not distorted. Nice cable connections. Adjustment on the box prevents 'holes' in the bass. It's powered, so doesn't affect main amp performance

Weakness:

Haven't found any. I didn't need anything bigger or more powerful.

I'm a casual listener, but it's always on in our house - whether it's radio, CD, TV or DVD. I LOVE the effect it has on the whole sound experience. It's truly thunderous during intense movie scenes, but deep and rich as it needs to be when listening to softer music. The adjustment on the box allows you to find the right crossover point to prevent the bass from kicking in or out too early or late, preventing 'holes' in the sound. I did a little research and decided to spring for a good sub that was self-powered, and I'm glad I did. For the price, this was well worth the investment!
If you want rich, deep bass as part of your surround sound system, this is a great piece of equipment.

Strength:

good, clean bass. plenty of inputs, low pass crossover and phase switch, 2 color light on front that indicates green for on red for off.

Weakness:

where you place it. phase switch helps a little but sounds good angled in the corner which makes it kind of obtrusive

Very good bass, nice and clean, plus it can handle almost anything you can throw at it. all around awesome unit for 400 bucks. just watch where you place it because that is what can break or make this sub.

Strength:

Once properly placed, excellent bass for home theater and good bass for music.

Weakness:

Not for large rooms (over about 400 square feet), but what 12" sub really is. Can sound a bit slow and bloated for music if not positioned and adjusted properly, especially with my Magnepan speakers.

This review is in follow up to my March review. I have since moved to a larger home and am having a custom Home Theater/Listening room built. In the meantime, I have some of my equipment, including this sub, in a make-shift set-up in the fourth level of the house. They are filling an area approx 29'x22' currently. The finished room will be about 15'x21'. As you can see, this is substantially larger than the original room they were place in (see my prior review).

I am still impressed with this sub, although it does trip a little when trying to fill the entire area with sound. I have actually gotten it to clip rather noticably on one CD...techno artist BT's new album "Moving in Still Life". About 15 seconds into track #7 (Godspeed), there is a phenominal bass drop that is absolutely torture for any speaker to reproduce in full terms. While the sub does a very good job with this track, it reaches it's limit in my new, larger area and distorts and compresses audibly at high volumes. If you want to test a sub or large tower speaker, BUY THIS CD and demo track #7. A good sub will shake your insides and then some on this track.

While auditioning an Anthem MCA5 amplifier at a local dealer, I heard this track for the first time through the shops reference setup...about $25,000 in equipment including Tannoy speakers (not sure of model, but rather large), Oracle CD player, Bryston THX monoblocks, and an Energy Microstar 12.1 sub. If price is no object for your subwoofer purchase...buy the Microstar 12.1. I have never heard tighter, deeper, or punchier bass from any other single sub including some highly regarded candidates in the $3000.00 price range. Now I wish I had my custom built subs back to hear this track to compare.

I recently purchased cone spikes from AudioAdvisor to put on each of the 4 feet of the sub. This tightened the bass even further and made a noticable difference on music and punch/impact on movies. I highly recommend this tweak if you are a bit disappointed with the tightness and speed on music. This caught the sub up with the speed and tranparency of my Magnepan 1.6 and MMG speakers.

Overall, I am still very impressed with this sub. My plan is to buy a second one for the new theater room. They can be found all over the web for between $300-350. Two of these subs will provide more than enough impact at even the highest levels with the boost in output from the second woofer. Still highly recommended for small to medium rooms and, for large rooms if you buy two. For $700, you can buy two of these babies and have more output and better room integration than any single sub out there selling for up to $2500.00. Enjoy!!

2 custom built 6 square ft cabinets with 15" Earthquake woofers (these are what I judge all subwoofers by- FLAT to 22 Hz with usable output down to 14 Hz according to my test disc). I sold the custom built subs about 3 months ago. They were just TOOOO big. Auditioned most subs in the $500-$2500 range prior to buying the Klipsch.

I have the Klipsch RF3, RS3, and RC3 as well. This sub kicks excellent base for home theater. My fiance just got us Jurrasic park and it sounds great!! I agree with other reviews that I tend to turn it down a few notches for music. I tend to keep it on 4 for music and turn it to about 8 for movies. (We are trying to stay friendly with the neighbors.) Great bass for a great price.

Strength:

Deep Bass. Fills the whole room. Automatic shutdown

Weakness:

Placement is critical

Great sub. Using it with my old Yamaha RX-V690 and 2-Klipsch SF-1 Mains. At first I was a little dissapointed. Bought it for $300 as a floor model. Thought it might be defective at first because the bass did not seem very tight. After moving the sub to the corner of the room, the sound felt deep and tight. Sub seems annoyingly loud in other parts of the house (you can feel it vibrate), but in the listening room the sound just envelops everything. My music has so much more depth now. Highly recommend it.

Strength:

Deep, clean, tight bass.

Weakness:

Placement is very important. Also, this sub cannot fill an extremely large room.

First, here is what I am using this sub with:

Fronts - NHT Super Ones
Center - NHT V1.2A
Rear - NHT Super Zero XUs
Marantz SR 7000 reciever

I bought this sub to complement my small yet powerful home theater setup in my college dorm. I recieved a noise complaint within 5 minutes of hooking it up. This sub is LOUD! After I started to tweak my system, I found that this sub's placement is very important. Living in a small dorm room (12X15) I did not have very many options for placement. I found, however, that one corner suited my listening tastes much better than the other. With the crossover set to about 80Hz and the volume at about 4.5, I found that this sub delivered incredibly clean and tight bass, not only for dvd's but also for any type of music, and I listen to them all (hip-hop, alternative, punk, ska, metal, country, pop, R&B, and even classical when I need to study). THE BASS OUT OF THIS SUB IS AMAZING!

My only concern however came when I moved home for the summer. I hooked up my hometheater setup to my parents big-screen TV in our very large basement. This sub did not have the power to fill suck a large room, however, very few do. It was perfect for my dorm room (probably even a little too much), but not quite enough for my parents huge basement.

After auditioning and listening to every sub I could find, I bought this one by calling the 1-800 number for vanns.com. I had it delivered to my door for $350. I found that the only two options for buying a subwoofer is to buy this one, or spend over $1500 on a Velodyne.

Strength:

Tight punchy BASS!

Weakness:

LFE/LINE-IN input

I bought this subwoofer because of the rave reviews from this site and the sound and vision mag article. Not to mention that it completes my Klipsch HT speaker setup. KSB 2.1s for the fronts, KSB1.1s for the surround, SC-1 for the center and KSW-12 paired with my Pioneer Elite VSX-24TX THX Select receiver.

Hand's down this subwoofer is really a solid performer. Well that is if you configure it properly. That's why I wanted to post this as a few mention having problems with its connection.

When I first received this sub I initially used the LFE/LINE inputs. Thus my first impressions of this sub was rather poor. It took me some experimentation to get the best results. First thing USE THE SPEAKER LEVEL INPUTS!!! What worked for me (again take note of my receiver) is using speaker level inputs AND setting my SUB speaker setting in the receiver to "NO" and my Fronts to "LARGE" and center and surrounds to "SMALL". This will ensure all Bass and LFE signals to be diverted to the fronts. I have set my KSW-12 to 70Hz, 4.5 volume and O Phase. This is the best setting that properly calibrates with a test DVD with Avia (including LFE and Surround sweeps) and real life tests like Lost in Space and Godzilla.
