Strength:

It adds power and definition to my music at a pretty low price and it is great for home theater too. I've tested many other kinds of subwoofers and this seems to be the best and would certainly be my personal choice!!!

Weakness:

NONE

When I got this sub, I didn't know how to hook it up to my receiver, so I experimented different ways of hooking it up and found the best way. It is the best subwoofer I have ever had.

This is one big sub! Those of you who purchase dinky
10 inch subs and expect them to shake your living
room should be ashamed of yourselves. Whats the point?
You should just buy speakers with 10 inch woofers and call
it a day. All of us who own subwoofers the size of coffee tables purchase these big behomeths for a reason, "to get as close to the realistic low end sound that the sound mixer or director intended when they put the mix together.
Understand that also when one buys a "big" sized sub and say you live in a tiny apartment you can always turn the volume on the sub down and when you eventually move to a bigger place you still have a big sub. **Off My soapbox**
This 15inch Klipsch Sub rumbles the walls during DVD's.
You can feel it in your feet. During Music it is not quite as loud of course because most music mixes do not contain
deep deep bass, but it sure sounds smooth. The downward
firing motion is very pleasant. This sub looks good too, nice and rounded with a tiny green/red light at the Klipsch logo. There are many ways to hook this sub in the back and there are many adjustments for tweaking. This sub is an excellent value if you can find it online for $500.00. It list for $899.00 in the catalog. Those of you who own Klipsch speakers go out and fulfill your Destiny by purchasing this sub.

This is the first subwoofer I've used. I really only watch movies so I decided on the biggest, baddest sub I could get from Klipsch because I like their other speakers. I like action movies and this sub only makes em better. I paid 600$ for it and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Strength:

Deep bass

Weakness:

A little boomy until correctly positioned and adjusted.

After purchasing a set of reference series speakers last fall (RF3,RC3,RS3) I finally decided to add a sub for the bottom end needed when watching DVD's. The RF's do very well on there own but were definitely lacking that "kick in the chest" feeling that you get from a sub. I have a fairly large room (approx. 20 x 30) and even though the KSW12 gets 5 stars here, I was afraid that it would not have enough for the room and effect I was looking for.
My initial feeling for the bass was that it was a bit "boomy", especially when playing music. I believe that the placement at the time played a major role in this (It started in the corner). After playing with the placement and setting both on the sub and the receiver (Denon AVR 3300) I have been able to eliminate the "boom" and found a good balance between movies and music. I still need to use an SPL meter for final adjustments but I believe it is very close to where it will end up.
Personally I had a lot of confusion in hooking the sub into the system. Initially I bought one cable and ran it from the sub/LFE out on the receiver to a "Y" and into the main L/R inputs on the sub. This setup worked ok with the main speakers set to small, but by doing this, the bass seemed totally removed from the mains which left something missing. I posted both here and on Klipsch's website and was told to use 3 cables into the sub. One from the sub/LFE out to the LFE in, and two from the L/R pre-outs to the L/R ins. This allows the main speakers to be set to "large" giving them bass and allowing the crossover on the sub to balance that out, and the LFE signal is transmitted directly bypassing the crossover in the sub. I was initially concerned with this setup thinking that the sub/LFE output on the receiver (bypassing the crossover in the sub) would mean overlapping too much but apparently the receiver is internally processing and sending only low signals out the sub out when music is playing (I seem to recall something about 80 hz and below being outputted) In any case, it all seems to be working very well.
Here's the bottom line:
This is a really kick ass sub that is capable of shaking the whole house when it needs to and after some "quality time" can be adjusted to fill in the missing bottom end in music without over powering the mids or highs. I recommend the sub to anyone that is willing to put some time into setting it up and wants a little more depth than the KSW 12 is capable of. I am giving it 4 stars in each catagory basically because I beleive that it is overpriced. The MSRP is $750.00 which is simply too much for this unit. I cannot say that it is "The Best" sub out there. It is a good sub that performs well. It seems to me that most people would be satisfied with the 12" model over the 15. Any opinions, feel free to email me.

Enjoy!

bad for music

I bought the Klipsch reference set RC-3, RS-3, and RB-5, and this sub ksw15. I am really happy with all the other speakers except this subwoofer. The sound seems to get louder as the frequency goes lower. It really distort music and the bass sounds strange. All I hear are rumblings sounds not drums. It is great for watching dolby digital dvds since it can really vibrates the furnitures. But I listen to music more and I am really disappointed that I cannot use the sub for listening to music. I tried every settings but music always sounds better when i turn the sub off. I should have bought a different sub. Maybe the Klipsh reference sub goes better with the reference Klipsch speakers. Don't buy this sub if you intend to use it for listening to music.

This is my first sub. I thought my main speakers were more than adequate until my friend convinced me to buy a sub. After receiving the sub I haven't had time to play with it until now. It took a while to find the correct placement and the right settings on the AVR-4800. With the time and energy I've spent on the KSW-15, it was definitely worth it.

I slammed in the Matrix and I was blown away. It was like watching it for the first time. I never knew how much I was actually missing.

I was considering the PW2200 and the PSW650, but after all that researching I decided on the KSW-15. This is one Sub not to be overlooked.

After good service from my original klipsch ksw-10II I decided I needed more bang in my home theater. After searching the web I finally decided to continue my all Klipsch setup with the ksw-15. I purchased this subwoofer from J and R for just a few bucks more than I paid for the 10 incher. Needless to say it is quite an improvement. Deeper extension, more output and a footprint not all that much bigger than the ksw10II. All in all a very good subwoofer. There are undoubtly better subs out there; but for the money I don't think you can beat this sub.

Strength:

Good, solid bass

Weakness:

none I've noticed yet

I got the KSW-15 a week ago, and have spent a great deal of time with it watching movies and listening to music since. I had listened to the Velodyne CT-150 in store, and liked it alright, but really wanted a downward firing sub, and have Klipsch for the rest of my speakers. So I actually bought the KSW-15 sight unseen. I've not been sorry. For action movies it gives all the low rumble without sounding boomy you could ask for in this price range. With music it took the strain off my mains and made the whole soundstage more smooth and seamless.

Sure you can find a better sub. Klipsch is about to unveil it's new line of reference level subs, at much greater cost I hear. For my budget though, I don't think I could do better. To me the overall rating is intrinsically related to it's value rating. Otherwise you'd not give anything that costs less than $10000 5 stars. I'd give it 4 even compared to more expensive models, but will give it 5 because for the price it more than deserves it.

Klipsch continues to give a high value for the dollar.

Strength:

Deep Bass, smaller footprint, priced right, multiple inputs and outputs, stylish looking.

Weakness:

Automatic level control, sounds boomy on a corner.

After reading some reviews on main speakers, I went down to J&R Music World (I have the advantage that I live near the store) and picked up a pair of Acoustic Research 328 PS speakers. I left the store thinking, I will probably come back again to get a subwoofer whem money comes in. A week later, the saleman showed me a Velodyne sub for $899, a JBL for $439 and a Klipsch PSW 15 sub for $499. Needless to say, I chose the Klipsch, not only because it had a smaller footprint (in other words it was more wife-friendly), but because to me it sounded the cleanest and had the deepest bass output, to the point where the entire room was shaking!
I mean this sub's low frequency output is so low, it's sometimes scary! After taking the sub home, I first thought to corner it like in the store demo, but it sounded too boomy for my taste, maybe because of my carpeted floor. After placing them in the middle wall in between my two main speakers, bass output was more "balanced" and less boomy. Now they sound better than I expected, specially on DVD movie sound effects. The only downside is that with music soundtracks with continous bass outputs the sub's built-in Automatic Volume Control takes over and limits bass output to a noticeably lower level, so I dont think the engineers that designed this speaker had continous bass output in mind. Anyway, with that out of the way, for DVD movie low frequency outputs (which are normally not continous) this is the subwoofer to get, specially at $499.
I give it 4 stars. Get it for DVD.
