Strength:

solid build, beautifull and an excellent movie sub

Weakness:

not a sub for music lovers

I got this sub for about a month now. I really enjoy it when watching movies. But for some reason it does not sound right for music. The bass was boomy, loose and inaccurate. I really disappointed. My previous sub was NHT and it performs excellent in both music and movie. The reason I upgraded to 125MKII because of power and good reviews here. Now I enjoy more for movie with this sub and but less the music. If music is your primary, I think It would be better for you go with the NHT.

Strength:

Deep, powerful, and very musical bass

Weakness:

Except for the dimensions, there is nothing I can think of

This subwoofer is simply the best that I have heard and experienced!!!

My previous sub - Yamaha YST SW-150 - is good but cannot really produce deep and powerful bass that I yearn for. I replaced it with a Cerwin Vega CVT-2000s, which can really produce strong and loud bass but does not have the quality and deepness. I listen more to music than watch movies so a musical sub is very critical to me. Sold off the Cerwin Vega determined to make sure that the next sub that I will purchase would be my last for a long while.

Because of all the glowing reviews from this site about the MX-125 MkII, I became curious about it and so I went out to audition it. The shop that I went to also carry Velodyne and B&W subs so I was able to compare them head-to-head. The Velodynes and B&W's are great sounding subs but the MX-125 stands out among the rest. I immediately fell in love with it. I decided to purchase the M&K even though the price is way above the amount that I have budgeted.

When I set it up at home, I know that I made the correct decision. The bass is just so amazing. The M&K blended well with my B&W main speakers. I have it set to bypass the low-pass filter and use the bass management of my Yamaha amp. Some of our friends even thought that all the bass that they hear are coming from my mains. My wife's complaint about the price of the sub evaporated after hearing its performance.

My setup are as follows:
YAMAHA DSP-A1
B&W 602s2 mains
B&W LCR6s2 centre
B&W 601s2 rears
M&K MX-125 MkII sub
monster cables

If you are in a market for a subwoofer, this is the sub for you. The cone on the sub has a marking "DISCOVER DEEP BASS" -- this says it all. FIVE STARS!!!

Strength:

It provides deep, clean bass. It is very musical and increases the pleasure of listening to music and films

Weakness:

It's a little too tall in comparison to standard sub designs. It does not have a remote.

7 months ago I was looking for a sub. After a lot of research I found this and have been very pleased. It's very powerful and fills the room. Originally, I was going to get the M&K v-105 but after compairing the 2 I brought this. I also got it for a very good price. Check it out!

Strength:

This is a very tight and fast sub.

Weakness:

Size, little more difficult to find the sweet spot in the room than other subs.

It packs a really clean, crisp punch. Clearly the best sounding sub in this price range. I use it for both music an d movies. It excels in both. Blended excellent with my Paradigm's. Probably won't ever replace this sub unless I want to hold an outdoor concert!

I have change many pieces of my HT, I have gone upgrade and downgrade, but one thing never changed was my MK MX-125 mkII. This sub is so right. If you need more output get 2, it is what it is, 150 watts RMS, 2 x 12" sun that plays 20hz and up at +_2db ! The Amp is high current AB, it has a big trans, big caps. Pleanty of headroom.

THIS SUB JUST DOESN'T QUIT

Weakness:

NO VARIABLE PHASE, A BIT CHEAP LOOKING

THIS SUB IS WITHOUT A DOUBT ONE OF THE BEST HOMETHEATER SUBS OUT THERE. IT CAN TAKE A LOT OF ABUSE AND TRULY SHAKE YOUR BUTT. I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANY M&K SUB CRAP OUT. HOWEVER, FOR US CANADIANS THIS PRODUCT IS QUITE EXPENSIVE, PUTTING IT INTO A WHOLE OTHER CLASS, WHERE I FEEL IT STILL HOLDS ITS OWN FOR HOME THEATER USE. I ENDED UP TRADING MINE FOR A MIRAGE BPSS 210, NOW DISCONTINUED, USING PARADIGM'S EXTERNAL CROSSOVER, BECAUSE THE M&K COULDN'T KEEP PACE WITH MUSIC. I AM AN AUDIOPHILE FIRST, RUNNING A PRETTY DECENT SYSTEM, AND NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED, I COULDN'T MANAGE TO INTEGRATE THIS SUB VERY WELL. IT ALWAYS DREW ATTENTION BY POOR RHYTHM AND OVERHANG. I TRIED PHASE AND PLACEMENT, INTO A CORNER, OUT OF A CORNER, FACING ME - THE WALL - AWAY, I REALLY TRIED EVERYTHING. NO LUCK. THE M&K COST AROUND $1800 CANADIAN, MY BPSS 210 WAS A FLOOR MODEL FOR $1500 CDN, TAX IN. THIS SUB KEEPS DEAD ON RHYTHM & PACE, IT HAS SPEED AND VIRTUALLY NO OVERHANG. IT GOES LOWER AND CLEANER, WITH SWEET DEFINITION IN THE BASS, BUT NOT NEARLY AS LOUD. DURING THE MOST DEMANDING MOVIE SCENES I HAVE TO BACK IT OFF A FEW DB. I GLADLY MAKE THAT TRADE OFF THOUGH, YOU MAY NOT WANT TO. IF MOVIES IS YOUR PRIORITY, NO CONTEST, IF MUSIC IS YOUR PRIORITY, NO CONTEST,...KNOW WHAT I MEAN!?!!

Strength:

Excellent HT sub, average with music

Weakness:

Too big to fit in my truck to blow those teen punk bassheads off my street corner.

Truely an awesome experience with home theater. It will cause you to search out crappy movies with great soundtracks just to enjoy the sub. The M&K 125 mkII blends well with my Vandersteen 1Ce's.

There are more economical subs out there, but after hearing one of the M&K's you won't want to compromise.

Any sub with out it's own amplifier is a waste of time and
money. Bang for the buck Miller and Kreisel rocks.
Explosions are captivating and realistic.

Strength:

Musical

Weakness:

None

Price: Actually I paid $850 for a slightly used Mark I.
Musical: This means that the speaker can reproduce multiple notes in rapid succession. It can recover quickly between notes. My salesman set up an A/B comparison with a "V" series subwoofer. The grills were removed. When two base notes were struck in rapid succession, the "V" series sounded like only one note, because it was still reverberating from the previous one. The "MK," with its two 10" speakers connected to a sealed box dampened themselves in time for the next note. When compared with a brand new MX...Mark II, the Mark II was very silghtly cleaner. Not enough so to warrent the extra $200 I would have had to spend.
Volume: It has plenty for a 15 X 25 foot room. I scares my guard dog!
Tip1: Get the poly cone feet. They improve the cleanliness and increase the volume. They cost $65.
Tip2: When you do A/B tests of subwoofers, look at the speaker. You can see the one that will not stop reverberating after notes.
Settings: In my system, I set the crossover at 100hz. The low end is lower than I can measure; however, the salesman says about 10hz. In any case it makes my 15" infinity 3-way speakers sound like tweeters.

Strength:

Clean, accurate, powerful output. Absolutely Awesome!

Weakness:

I'm have to patch the plaster that this thing is shakin' off the walls. Just kidding. Acutally it's just a little large, but I'm learning to live with it.

Bought the M&K MX125 MkII after auditioning several of the above models. The M&K was more expensive than any of the Klipsch models, but the output of the M&K impressed me a lot more. I think the Klipsch KSW15 may actually play louder, but lacks the tight definition of the M&K. I didn't intend to spend nearly a grand, but after listening to the M&K MX125 MkII, and living with it for a while, I now think the sub would be a bargain at twice the price. I listen to a lot of different types of music - classical, rock, country, you name it... and attend live performances whenver possible. I was impressed that this subwoofer can give the "kick in the pants" rumble that a good pipe organ creates. The M&K is my choice. If I hadn't been willing to spend the extra money. The Klipsch 15 or 12 would have been number two, but....a very distant second.

This sub does a terrific job with movie effects. I have measured the output in excess of 105db which in reality is way too loud for sustained listening.

If you're looking for the a boom box - this probably isn't it. But, if you're looking for awesome output that simply sounds great this is the subwoofer you want. Quit daydreaming, and go buy one.

Movies 50% and Music 50%.
