Strength:

Nice Bass Good Control

Weakness:

The din Connector Emits Sparks if not properly inserted all the way in ( connector has a way of loosening )

Unit is good except for the Din connector which should have some type of locking mechanism so it don't come loose.

Unit would be a Five star if it wasn't for the controller connector...

Strength:

relatively small size, nice finish, good upper and mid bass quality

Weakness:

poor low bass, limited output

I can't believe this unit is priced the same as the Paradigm PW-2200. This unit is only a tick tighter in the mid and upper bass than the Paradigm, but has much less extension and output. In my room, this sub gave out at 27-28 Hz, even in the corner. The Paradigm is flat down to 20 Hz in the same location. For those who consider the Paradigm not musical enough, go buy an M&K MX-105 Mark II. It lists for $950, only $150 more than the SubOne, and it is much more sub for the money (it is a sealed box with 2 12-inch drivers). For the rest of us, the Paradigm is the one to get (I paid $720, hint--pay in cash).

Strength:

Clean, strong bass. nice finish. Great manual. Good design.

Weakness:

bulky.

I bought my NHT subone a few days ago for $600 (I saw it at another store priced at $750) and I am very happy with it. I had brought the Boston VR-965 speakers home earlier to see how they sounded and felt that they were too boomy for music, so I promptly returned them. I finally got the subone and installed it along with my old Boston A70 speaks. I find that the bass blends into the music very well and is very natural sounding. It has a volume control and you can probably shake the room if you were so inclined. But, apartment living has it's downsides.... Thanks to the instructions in the manual, I was probably able to set this thing up quite easily. The manual is terrific and explains everything so even a layperson can understand the intricacies. I like the overall design and the flexibility it offers in terms of the various settings which helps in adapting to the room acoustics, size etc. The controller is nice and saves the headache of looking behind the speaker everytime for adjustments. Overall, in my opinion a good buy.

Strength:

Accurate, TIGHT bass! Subwoofer control system

Weakness:

Turn off buzz at when I power down my Onkyo DS777 receiver

I walked into my local sound shop, The Sound Lab (http://www.soundlabinc.com) located in Palatine, IL wanting to compare and buy a Klipsch KW-12 or KW-15 unit for my home sound system. After listening to my salesman, Tom, he played the KW-12 with the movie, Tarzan and some other musical items then played the same samples with the NHT Sub One. I was blown away by how tight and accurate the bass was on the NHT!

The clarity of the unit is impeccable. The KW-12 made more boom of course, but the clarity lacked in a big way in comparison.

I really like the remote control box that you hook up to the sub with a 25' PS/2 type cable to be able to control your sub so you don't have to keep getting up and playing around with your sub settings!

The low pass and line in is great if you want to High Level pass the unit to cut certain FREQs away from your mains, but I did not do that in my case.

I purchased the unit for $720 + tax at my local shop and I am so glad I did!

Strength:

fallow-up

Weakness:

none yet

I reviewed the Subone and also send in a reply last time
saying that the sub made a whisling sound when i would turn it up.

i later found out that there was a defect in the sub that could easly be fixed.

i took the back panel off and looked inside and poped the port out

while i did that i notest that the port is not glued to the box.
i didn't glue it back but i did put some masking tape around
the port for a better fit and carfully put the port back on making sure that it was secure and screwed the back panel on cranked it up to see what it sounded like.

perfect i fixed it

the problem was the port was not hit all the way in the box i had to pound it with my hand, i guess there was air coming through some how.

hopefully this will help someone else i think it could have hapened in shipping i don't know.

sound great no problems now
so good luck with your sub
and happy listining

Strength:

Size, bass response, controller

Weakness:

None

I have the sub one integrated into a 6.1 home theater system which consists of six NHT Super Zero speakers and an Outlaw 1050 6.1 receiver. I have been very impressed with the tight bass this unit produces as well as the way it blends perfectly into the sound of the little speakers. If I hid it you would swear the bass was coming from the zero's. It does not draw attention to itself at all. I am using it in an 18'X 23' room with 18' ceiling and tile floor with wood walls.

Musically it provides the punch desired and the lowest of notes without any trouble. It can handle whatever you give it without rattles or hums (except from the windows and pictures when you crank it up!). The controller allows for subtle variations and fine tuning to get just the right sound you are looking for. The box is not too large and is unobtrusive. A beautiful sub with a quality sound. You will not be disappointed.

Strength:

Size and build, musical ability AND HT ability.

Weakness:

none to talk about

I have had the Sub-one for several weeks now. After many hours of fine tuning I have now melded this sub into my home theater. While it may not be a beast as some of the other subs I have listened to,it dose have a tight and accurate sound all its own which I would of missed out on if I were to have bought a Velo or other. All and all I am very impressed with its ability and have ordered the SuperSub for the rears in my HT setup. Good job NHT!

Strength:

Awesome blend with the other NHT speakers (2.5i, 1.5, AC-1), nice remotely-controlled volume/cross-over control, small in size big in sound.

Weakness:

None.

Had this subwoofer at home last weekend and got it incredibly well tuned in with the rest of my setup. This sub seriously outplayed the other subs I have tried, among them Sunfire, Velodyne and B&W.

Unfortunately it played too well for my neighbours' tastes so I was more or less forced to return it ;). Too bad, got to buy myself a house it seems.

One of the best features of this sub is the ability to use the remote controller (via the 20ft cord) to fine tune the sub from the primary listening position in the room. Special effects sound incredible and I have not even had a chance to turn the volume control above the half way mark. The rest of my HT speakers include: a pair of NHT 2.3 towers for the front (which I have owned since before HT became popular), an NHT VS1.2a for the center channel, and a pair of NHT SuperOnes for the rears.

Strength:

All I can say is wow. Finally a sub that can do music. 2 piece design.

Weakness:

Not for huge rooms.

Let me just say wow. The dealer I bought the sub from no longer deals NHT so they had a demo in the back that had been sitting there for almost a year. Not a single scratch on it. I have always been wary of purchasing a sub because most are to slow and boomy. Not the sub one. Quick and tuneful pretty much sums it up. Had no problem dialing it in to come up under my main speakers. Best spot in my room was 2 feet from the back wall right in side my front right speaker. Music that I have heard with the sub so far is everything from Dave Matthews band to Incubus. Movie performance in my room is also excellent. Not to boomy, just right. Always listen to a sub with music! If it can do music you should have a great home theater sub, or i should so an accurate ht sub. Not bloated or fat bass. Nice and tight. The two piece design is one of the strengths of the sub to me. The amp is still in the sub, but there is a controller box wired to the sub with a ps/2 type cord. For $250.00 this has to be the second best deal i have gotten. The first being a demo sony 7700 dvd player for 128.00. Wouldnt pay 800 for the sub so the rating reflects how much i paid for it. 5 stars.

My system.
