The power, the sealed enclosure, the controller, the design, the musicality, and it looks killer. I don't want to hide my equipment. It costs too much not to be able to look at it. Having 4 big 12'' drivers pounding at ya is cool too.
Weakness:
It's big and bulky so it's kind of hard to move around but it is SO worth it. The setup was not difficult but this is not a plug and play sub. A little bit of effort regarding crossover setting and phase setting yield astonishing results. An spl meter would be a very smart purchase if you do not already own one. I added two sub2i's to my system so I can have stereo subs. After going to a recent Rob Zombie concert, I came to the conclusion that massive bass is a must in trying to recreate the "concert environment". The sub controller is excellent as it allows for the connection of a 2nd sub for stereo and the adjustments provided allow one to integrate the subs seamlessly into one's system. One also does not need to crawl around to make adjustments to one's settings. Just walk up to the rack where that controller resides. I also use NHT VT2.4 towers and 5 NHT VS2.4(center/surrounds). I looked at Velodyne and Sunfire subs as well. One cannot beat physics so the size of the sealed enclosure allows this sub to be very clean, tight, and thunderous. Musicality is my main priority so a sealed enclosure is a must. After placing both of the subs in the same plane as my towers, similar to a concert layout, I could not believe how well my system sounds. I had serious bass loading in one corner of my room but the addition of the 2nd sub2i eliminated that. It also helps that there is a 500watt sunfire designed amp in these subs as well. After using the supplied cones(spikes) the extension was even deeper and cleaner. I never thought that those cones would make that much of a difference. Unbelievable. The very negative review below must not have had his subs switched on, plugged in, or just had "subwoofer set to NO" in his setup. I was initially going to go with the Sunfire true signature sub but once I auditioned it and did more research on speaker enclosures, the choice was easy to make plus I have all NHT speakers anyway. I'm not saying the the Velodyne and Sunfire are not great subs but for me the NHT was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Even though this is a musical sub, it can hammer down for Home Theater purposes as well since that controller allows one to set the sub from a flat response to a video contour. I stay with flat for both music and home theater. If you don't mind big speakers and love recreating a concert environment, this is a great buy. If you can still find them, as NHT has discontinued these models for their evolution series. Similar Products Used: Just subs that I have auditioned and friends subs in their systems. |

Subwoofers I could afford never satisfied me, subwoofers I liked I couldn't afford. Then I hear this one, and it is perfect. It sounds so good, and its so potent, that I can't imagine it getting any better than this. I was going to buy a Mirage BPS400 which inspires awe as well, and its top plate is beautifully finished. But it was boomier, didn't sound quite as tight and smooth as the NHT, and it's HUGE.
Weakness:
none. if you don't mind that you can't hide it. I can't imagine it getting any better than this Similar Products Used: Mirage BPS 400, Velodyne HGS12. |

This is a review for the Subtwo i, which is the same design as the Subtwo, but uses a variation of the NHT 3.3's 12" driver (the 1259), rather than the 2.9's 10". I bought it to go with my NHT 2.9/AC-2/1.5 system. This is one of many subwoofers that I have used, and the only one that is so good that I never think about it. why do I never think about? Because it always performs with great magnificence. Every other sub that I have used would call my attention to it by either falling short on performance and not integrating well with rest of the system (sonically). But the subtwoi has extension so deep, its so unstrained at ungodly output levels, its so smooth! Every other sub that I have used would sound different at various output levels. as the levels went up, the sound would become pinched and strained. The Subtwo i stays so tight, so precise, so clear, so smooth all the way up to the limit where I can't stand it any more. This sub is like James Bond. Suave, potent, cool under pressure, refined, devastatingly effective. I guess it helps that my front and center have excellent bass output and extension, and that lets this sub integrate very smoothly with them. I have the cros
Weakness:
NHT have recently gone through a major overhaul. They've completely changed their cabinet design and manufacturing technique. Instead of solid, sonically inert, veneered cabinets (that piano black was an applique), they've gone to a lightweight, flimsy seeming, laquered cabinet. I think the subtwo cabinet was the original type, but the subtwo is of the newer type. It looks very nice, but rap the cabinet with your knuckles and it sounds thin, hollow, insubstantial, cheap. The left 2.9 sitting next to it is a monolith by the same test. I don't know if this affects its performance any. Whether it does or not, its still very fine performance. The best subwoofer I've used. Similar Products Used: Paradigm PS-1200 and PSW2200, NHT sw1p, Velodyne F1200 and VA-1012, Definitive PF1500, Mirage BPS150 and BPS 400, a a couple of others. |

Price, musical, accurate, slam, adjustability.
Weakness:
None I am astonished by the bad review by Nguyentc below. Based on reviews on this site and others, I purchased 2 of the SubTwoi units to augment my home theater. I could have gotten just one and would have been happy, but the price was so good I had to do overkill. :-) I’m not sure what problems Nguyentc was having, but the bass output on these puppies is OUTSTANDING. Tight, clean, adjustable, musical, deep, slam, fast, kick, these are just a few words that describe how these subs performed for me. They rumble with adeptness that my Klipsch KSW-15 could only dream of. And while they’re not supposed to go as deep as the Klipsch, you couldn’t tell it by me. They rattle my wife’s curio cabinet just fine. And the music performance is tight and clear, with no muddiness unless you adjust the controller poorly. And I really like the controller and the range of adjustments you have with video contour and music modes. I had debated on whether or not to get an ICBM from Outlaw for bass management duties, but now with the SubTwoi controller, I don’t need it. I was also thinking about upgrading my head unit, a Sony DB930 receiver, to better match my Sherbourn 5 channel amp. But with the mid bass being filled out so nicely with these subs, I can put that one off for a while. They match up very well with my Paradigm Studio 100 speakers and totally fill the bill for music accuracy and movie rumble. They opened up my entire soundstage to include the strumming of bass guitars and the feel of the kick drums. I am extremely happy with this purchase and can’t imagine better performance for the money. Five stars all the way around Similar Products Used: Klipsh, Infinity |

Strength:
Come with a separate controller, which is nice to connects to 2 sub and be able to control the crossover.
Weakness:
Big, very bulky, hard to decide where to put this ugly thing. The build in power is weak, very weak, turn to the max and still hardly hear anything come out of it. No control what so ever on the sub itself, only from the separate controller, but if the seperate controller is not doing it, you stuck. Don't buy this product or you will regret as I did. This sub is very weak, even though it boast it has 500W power. I cranked up the volumn to maximum and hardly hear the base come out from it, not to mention the side of it is too big and bulky. Good thing that I have a Sunfire sub with me to campare and notice that the base of the NHT is nothing compare to the Sunfire. I played and listened to the same song on both sub and truely I would say the NHT is unnoticeable. Sometime I even wonder if it has the power amp at all inside this thing, because I tried to turn the volume is at max and most of the time I don't seems to hear any base or it is so low that you hardly hear them. I really disappointing for getting this sub. The main reason I am getting this sub over any other sub is beacause I listen to all the good review from here and I made a decision to try it out. I now learned my good lession that don't buy anything that you have not hear it for yourself. All the reviews in here is just an opinion of someone and it may or may not be like your taste or have an ear like yourself. So my recommended to all is that don't buy something that you are not sure of, even though you have heard of many good review about it. This NHT SubTwoi is really ugly, big, and no power at all. I wonder why we got so many good review in here. Weird!!! With the price I am paying for it, I could have gotten me a more better price and better sub. I have used the Velodine VA1215 sub, the Sunfire Truesub Jr. but this NHT is really, really sorry sub that I ever have or own. none I have always reviewed the comments from this website and found most of them to be relevent. Even though the majority of the reviewers rate the SUB TWO with high marks, they sometimes state the sub is better for music than for movies. I have to say, with my limited knowledge, this is NOT the case. The punch is strong enough to shake the windows and paintings, yet crisp enough to accent the subtile bass that normally would get lost in the "rumble". My system is adaquate to notice the difference between harsh and fine base. The music is clean and meaningful, yet not overbearing. none I was looking for a sub that would give me the punch in my movies and clarity in my music. I also wanted to control the volume and crossover without having to crawl behind my system. i have found the perfect balence in the Sub Two. I''m still looking for the rattle that appears when I play movies. I have been very pleased with this sub. I just purchased the Denon 5800. I also have the Mitsubishi DVD 6000. I have Paradigm reference 40''s in the front and Paradigm Ref 20''s in the rear. I also use the Ref Center. I would say that I have the perfect match for someone that knows nothing about audio systems. Take my word with a grain of salt, however, I am pleased with my system. Sub only goes down to 21 Hz, but how low do you want to go verus the price I agree with Richard from Toledo OH. 100 %, I was also looking for a musical sub woofer. I have more of a stereo system (Audio Research LS-16 pre-amp via Aragon 8008BB amp to Martin Logan SL-3) with HT capibilites (Theta Casa Nova D/A processor via Adcom 5503 amp to Martin Logan Logos & Scripts) & I needed a sub woofer to fit both audio worlds. I listen to mostly Classical, Jazz, World, & Movie Sound Tracks, with Rock-N-Roll as a kicker. I am more into the tonality of low wave lengths than the BOOM or LOUDNESS of what people with gaint sub woofers that sHaKe their cars while driving by. The dealer that sold me the Martin Logans wanted to sale me a Velodyne FSR-12 sub woofer, but it was too large for my small beach duplex. Later I found another semi-high end audio store closer to my house & I asked their salesman to see & hear their most musical sub woofer. He let me test the NHT Sub Two. At first I was a little put back with the dual 10" woofers because my Martin Logan SL-3's have 10" woofers & I didn't want to copy the sound, but after learning about the volume, 3 different by-passes, & A/V controls, I was most impressed. The sub woofer was fast & tonal, but the dealer was in one of those quick store fronts & the listening room shook too much. I put the NHT Sub Two to the grand test with Phillip Glass CD "Life out of Balance", Holy Cole CD "Temptation" (the bass player is amazing), & a few other CD's with lots & lots of bass. Once I understood the controls, I then compared the NHT Sub Two with a Definitive Tech 15" sub woofer which was way too RuMbLy. After this I told the salesman I would buy it, & put half the money down, & 2 weeks later I placed the NHT Sub Two in my front room. The box that the NHT Sub Two came in was rather heavy, but easy to transport. When opened, the front screen was taped to the sub woofer which made taking the unit out rather difficult. The manuel was very easy to read & to the point, giving 4 different methods of set up. The NHT Sub Two was very easy to connect due to the horse-shoe drawn outlines on the sub woofer itself & on the control box for its special 20 foot pin connection wire. The special pin connection wire was rather hard to push in & at times I couldn't make the sub woofer commicate to the NHT control box, but after a few twists & turns, the green light came on the control box informing me that everthing was okay. I put the NHT control box on top of my VCR, & connected a Harmonic Techology Truth-Link to a Theta Casa Nova D/A surround sound processor via sub output. At first the NHT Sub Two was rather BOOMLY & sHoOk my house, but after fine tuning the sub woofer to zero phase, low by-pass off, & flat, I let my Theta Casa Nova do all the crossovers because my Martin Logan SL-3's need alot of bass to make them sound right. Therefore I set Theta Casa Nova to play the Martin Logan SL-3's full range with the NHT Sub Two filling in the extreme low end when listening to music from CD's or LP's & 40 Hz cross over from the Martin Logan woofers to the NHT Sub Two when watching DVD's or TV. I burned in the NHT Sub Two at 4 to 6 hours a day for 10 days, while turning off the sub woofer at night because I could hear the low standing waves in my bedroom. Normally I play all my new audio equipment for 2 weeks straight day & night to breck in the new equipment. On the 10th day, when I played Lisa Gerrard (main singer from Dead Can Dance) new CD, the NHT Sub Two started to sing rather than burp out low notes. WOW, to sing along with a sub woofer is a new concept for me. I was so impresssed with the NHT Sub Two, that I went & tested the NHT's 1.5, 2.9, VT 1.2, & VT 2 normal main speakers for my bedroom. I ended up buying the VT 2's (see review) at a great price. I love NHT Sub Two for its size, its tonality, its quickness of its dual 10" woofers, its easy controlibility, & its muti set-up capibilities. Thanks NHT Similar Products Used: Definitive Tech. & Velodyne |
