Tight musical bass When I went to my dealer I said I was looking for a sub that was number one, musical.I told him I really didn't care how much it could shake my room but it had to musical. He took me right to the NHT SUB 2. Never having had any real listening experience with NHT products I was a little skeptical. This sub really sounded great to me right from the start, tight, clean, fast & not the least bit boomy. I was really concerned with the speed of a sub because I use ribbon hybrid speakers (Newform Research R645's) and this one was very fast & tight. After hearing this he let me hear the Paradigm Servo 15 which although is an excellent sub is just a little slower & looser, then the Velodyne which was a lot more one note sounding to my ears. This unit also has a very versatile crossover included with a lot of nice features, the ability to add a second sub for stereo &/or room balancing is a bonus. I use mine crossed over at 40 which adds a nice warmth to the music & when called upon delivers all the low bass you'll need.I got a stereo set of subs(which are easier to place than most) & a great crossover for $1700,quite a bargin Similar Products Used: Velodyne,VMPS,MTX |

none I first reviewed the sub two back in march, last friday i got my 2nd one.Now with 4 10 inch drivers things will never be the same.By the way i have talked with nhts designer of the sub two it really has 750 watts that backs down to 500 when over worked to keep it from breaking it self apart.after spending some time blending them with my B&W s you would think your in the front row of any live concert.crisp clean bass as much as you want. For me i use my system 80% music 20% movies.a boomy sub would never do. |

Strong, tight, musical bass. Beautiful looks.
Weakness:
Gloss finish is beautiful, like all NHT speakers but shows every fingerprint and dust! Can be wiped off, but a minor nit. I got this for a satellite system I set up for my girlfriend to listen to music with and now I'm wishing I kept it at my place and put my Sunfire with her system!! I set it up with 2 NHT 1.5's and it simply sounds seamless and fantastic!! The controls on the outboard controller give you plenty of flexibility as far as tailoring the crossover points and volume in relation to the rest of the system. After a bit of experimentation with placement I found a spot for it on the same wall as the 1.5's. The bass is wonderful!! Powerful and deep, like the sunfire, but tight and musical like so many have described. As I was listening to it and smiling at the music, I started to sadden as I realized I would be leaving it at her house. Good thing we're getting engaged soon so I can hear it more often!! provides clean, fast, powerful low frequency. the finish is done in high gloss black (or white laminate). 500 watt amplifier from sunfire bob carver
Weakness:
the speakers are made in taiwan =P just got this sub like a week ago for my 18th bday. the nht sub two needs to be warm up for at least 80 hours (from what the sales person told me). it does produce bass down to 21 hertz, but not loud enough to be satisfying. i have 3 subwoofers in my room. and this is the most accurate sub i have. its highly recommended. if ur looking for boomy bass, look somewhere else. i have my sunfire mkll placed in the closet with the sliding mirror open half way, the nht sub two placed in the left corner and the polk psw350 place in the right corner, and ive did some testing, and i can easily achieve over 130 decibels of bass in my room, hehe. Tight, dynamic, blends in well I was looking for a sub with musicality like the NHT Sw2pi but I was also looking for a sub with a lil more volume when needed. I loved the Sw2pi for it's speed and pace and didn't want to give that up. Well luckily I found a Sub2 for only $730 and couldn't pass it up. I hoped that it performed as well. After listening to the Sub2 for 2 months, I can say that with proper positioning and set up, this sub is as musical as the Sw2pi and when you watch movies, this thing will move serious air. I also happened to have a Hsu 12Va at the time to compare. The Hsu did play louder but the NHT seemed to have less distortion. This could be due to the fact that the Hsu was powered with a 120Watt amp. The Hsu sounded good but I found the NHT to be a little more musical. For sheer loudness, go with Hsu, but if u want a lil more quality, the NHT Sub2 is perfect. Not that the SUB2 can't raise some hell either. Compared to the Sw3, the Sub2 is a bit faster and lower. The 2 10"s seem to go lower than the single 12" of the Sw3. My friend's Def Tech 12" sounded good for movies but for music, it was not nearly up to pace with the NHT line up. The NHT Sub2 crossover is a nice 24Db slope and blends in perfectly with my VS-2 Satallites. Way to go NHT Similar Products Used: NHT Sw2pi, NHT SW3p, Hsu 12Va, Def Tech 12", |

Craftsmanship, Quality Sound I have a corner screen entertainment system with bookshelfs flanking the screen. I set out to find the best bookshelf system I could find with out doing too much overkill. I found that the NHT Superone was the speaker that fit the bill. They are outstanding for music listening and also home theatre. However, they just didn't compete with floor standing speaker bass response. So to solve that problem I purchased the Sub 2 to give them the sound and range of a $10,000 floor standing speakers. I purchased the second sub box ,which linked to the first, give you amazing dynamics that fill the room and you can't tell were its comming from. |

Tight bass
Weakness:
None. This is a great sub. As mentioned before, if you want boominess this is not the sub for you. This sub has super tight accurate bass own to about 20hz. The separate controller is awesome and allows flexibilty. I am using this with Paradigm Ref-80's and it compliments them perfectly. This is a music only set up. While I am sure it rocks on home theatre, it is probably best suited for music. |

Strength:
Fast, accurate, musical bass. Very good output. Vertical profile easy to locate in a room.
Weakness:
Not inexpensive. Currently using (2) of these subs with Paradigm Reference Studio home theater/music setup. Initially purchased a SVS CS Ultra for the sub requirements of my home theater after reading so many great reviews online. Although my 100v.2 mains really didn't need any bass reinforcement for music, I still needed something for home theater. Auditioned the SVS for about a month but could not get used to the lack of speed I had with my previous NHT SW2pi sub, so I returned it. The SVS sub has great output below 30hz but is just NOT a musical sub! So I decided to go back and listen to more subs including the new NHT's. NHT produced one of the few subs I liked in 1995-6 (SW2pi) and I found the Sub 2 to be one of the few available today I would include in my system. This sub has the speed, accuracy and the additional output I was lacking with the SW2pi. I would never give up accuracy for maximum db output. The Sub 2 also goes low and with (2) in a very large, open great room can vibrate the foundation of your house when you want to. Wow! This sub rocks w/ 500Watts of pure Sunfire power! This piece has no sign of straining at all. I guess the Sunfire design really made a big difference. I have it hooked the my Denon AVR-5700 and once I got it tuned to the AVR properly it made a huge difference. The performance is very clean and pure for both music and movies. NHT did a great job providing a seperate controller to adjust it to your listening preferences. Music listening was very gratifying and gave that extra tight base which really opened the listening environment. |

none...yet Excellent on Music and quite strong in movies, although the Velodyne I used is more powerful for movies. I have more than made up for it though, and to my chagrin I might have overkilled the situation. Due to my system: Similar Products Used: B & W AWS 4000, Velodyne HGS 18 |
