Strength:
musicality/excellent value
Weakness:
not earth shaking Before purchasing this subwoofer to go with my B&W P-4s I auditioned the B&W subwoofer and the PDR 10 which was $150 cheaper. My audio consultant put the two subs back to back and, quite frankly, the difference in the sound quality was pretty minor and not justified by the price difference. One word of warning, if you want earth shattering, house shaking bass, this is not the sub for you. If you're looking to add some musicality to the bottom spectrum, this sub is worth the money. Strength:
Very natural, rear-ported, low distortion.
Weakness:
Only LFE line-level input. I listened to a number of subwoofers in the $300-$600 range before I settled on this subwoofer. I used few Dave Matthew's tracks, as well as some off of the Almost Famous Soundtrack to demo most of the subs. It was listening to Stillwater's Fever Dog, that sold me on the PDR-10. The bassdrum intro to the song was the most realistic I had heard. There was very little box distortion. The rear port provides nice imaging, and blends real well with my bookshelves. For music, I would say that it is the best in the price range. It is still quite good for movies, with plenty of power, and a low excursion. |

Strength:
Loud if needed, can shake the floor in smaller rooms, good if budget can't allow you something better or if you just don't care about musical detail.
Weakness:
Undetailed, distracting sound. I was hearing the box, not the instruments. No eq funcion or phase switch, or high/low bypass capability. For about 80.00 bucks more you can get the killer B&W ASW 300 which in every way outperforms. I tried this sub but was unhappy. Yes it produced low bass which was fine for movie sound effects, but that was all. It was fairly musical but i was not pleased with its interaction with my B&W 602 S3's. Found it had flat bass with no detail. It was fairly smooth and warm but not passable for musical intricacies. I returned it and paid a little more for a B&W ASW 300. I love this sub (B&W). It is detailed and musical and can definately shake the room when it has to. It certainly blends with my speakers well with no noticable crossover. It is much more sofisticated in it's eq function allowing an A,B sound where A is more controlled tight bass, and B is more rumbly drawn out tonality. It also has a phase switch which the Paradigm did not. You can also daisy chain it if you want another sub to add - nice future upgrading. THe B&W is also much more powered. They both tout 100w's but i'm sure the B&W is being modest or the Paradigm is exaggerating. I had the turn the Paradigm up to about 70% where i'm only at about 30% with the B&W and matching sonic output. Most importantly when I listen to music the B&W allows me to hear the instruments! The Paradigm was simply just a bass tone with no detail. For films the B&W equals if not excels the Paradigm in effectiveness as it, again, allows the detail of the bass to be revealed. In short the Paradigm is not worth its money and only made my music sound worse. If you can definately compared the new B&W ASW 300 with this and you'll understand the difference. ps. if you can find an Audioquest Sidewinder sub cable. Very nice speed and detail compared with an Ultralink sub cable (cheap and cheap sounding) Similar Products Used: B&W ASW 300 |

Strength:
- Nice tight bass - Does not overdue it - Affordable price - Stylish (comes in several colors)
Weakness:
- Cannot remove grill Bought this sub based on the reviews submitted here at audioreview.com and I am very satisfied with the results. Put it to the test last night while watching Blackhawk Down and could feel the chopper rotors vibrating my butt. Do not see why people would buy anything bigger. |

Strength:
Variable frequency between 50Hz-150Hz. Auto on/standby. Adjustable volume control. Multiple inputs from receiver, pre-amp or main/satillite speakers. 5 Year Warranty. Front firing.
Weakness:
None This is a great speaker for the price. By the way that's CDN dollars and that's before tax. I bought this speaker because I wanted something that would be good for both HT and listening to music. When watching movies it shakes and rumbles, you feel the bass. When listening to music it has a nice crisp clean punch. Being a front firing sub it emits the sound to the entire room rather than just sending it to the floor. It has an auto on/standby so you don't hear a hum or buzz when the receiver isn't on. No loud cracking or cliping sound when it powers up. Also you want to use this sub with a surround sound receiver. The first receiver I used it with only had prologic and it did not due the sub justice. It sounded great then, but now it sounds awesome. NONE YET I recently put a HT system together, and this being my first sub, I couldn't wait to get it home and crank it up. Previous to purchasing it, I hadn't even heard the sub. play, I purchased it purely on the basis of recomendation. Nothing but CRISP, CLEAN, and heart thumping BASS. You can't go wrong with this sub. Strength:
Great tight Bass. Bass you can feel, but does not drown out the other speakers. Blends much better with Music and HT.
Weakness:
None at this Price My Infinity Bu-120 recently blew a capacitor. It never really sounded all that good with music anyway, so I decided to get a new one. I started looking at what I could get for $300 - $500. I had pretty much settled on the Velodyne CHT-10 or CHT-12 ($400 and $500). I had read some good reviews here on the Paradigm PDR-10 and PDR-12 ($300 and $370), so I decided to have a listen before buying the Velo. I was really impressed, and decided to get the Paradigm. Initially I wanted the PDR-12, but the salesman suggested I try the 10 inch and told me if I decided in 30 days I wanted to upgrade to the 12 to bring it in and pay the difference for the 12 in. That sounded like a good deal. Since I saved $100 on the Sub I also decided to get a pair of Paradigm Titans to go with it. They sound really good together. It is so much better for music than the Infinity. This sub can still rumble the floor pretty well when watching movies. It does not overpower everything like the Infinity did. It blends much better with the rest of the system. I will be keeping the PDR-10. Similar Products Used: Infinity BU-120. |

affordable, natural sound, small size After a long delay I have upgraded from my JBL 100 Studio Monotors to new technology. After some retuning of my ears I love my current system. The PSB 10 have a very pleasing bass response for my non-critical movie and general listening. I dont require realistic nuclear explosions, but I do require accurate electirc basss and orchestral music and this speaker fills the bill effortless and beautifully. |

Strength:
tight, clean bass
Weakness:
no phase control Excellent! Matches perfectly with my Paradigm Atoms. The PDR-10 is very musical, perfect for extending the bottom end of a monitor/satellite system. Produces well controlled bass, can play very loud without distortion. Another great performance/value product from Paradigm. |
