I have owned my PS1000 for about a year now and let me tell you its a very excellent pice of equipment. I don't think there is any beter subwoofer for $500 bucks available at this point in time. Anyone looking for a good reliable subwoofer that will work with hometheater or any kind of music you listen to, be prepared to be delighted with joy.

I have Just purchased this piece of quality Equiptment, and I must say it is a very expensive coffee table :-)))) Only Joking
Seriously This Sub Woofer from Paradigm is superior to others such as JBW, Yamaha and a few others I have heared in this price range.

I have it only 1/4 volume, crossover at 100Hz and Phase at 0 degrees and boy when you crank up that volume it dosney half shake the hoose!!!!!!!!!!

I have played around with locations in my room and wherever it is it just cant be located, its immense!! You have no idea where it is, unlike some other models I have heared.

It goes low and Loud, not boomy though which Is excellent, it just blends in nicely with Madonna's Power of goodbye and anything else you care to listen to.

This Sub Woofer is a piece of superior equipment that I would Highly Advise you to buy, right now, today A.S.A.P It just well...buy it I just cant describe my feeling with words.

I rate this Paradigmn PS-1000 5 Stars, 100% you name it its got the reccomendation from me!

Strength:

Smart Hybrid Design, excellent performance capability to dollar ratio, low price.

Weakness:

Sensitive to position and placement

This unit will work well with most HT setup except for very very large rooms. It can certainly rumble with the best of them. Very clean amp/power supply design, no hum or noise whatsoever unlike some Energy, PSB and other Paradigm models. I bought this unit mainly to enhance my 2 channel music system because of its hybrid design (totally enclosed driver). If this unit is positioned away from corners and with its ports facing away from walls, it will put out extremely accurate and musical bass. Volume and frequency cutoff should be set carefully and as low as possible to prevent boominess or coloration. In my 15 X 30 room, I have the volume set at just under 1/3 and cutoff at about 70 HZ. The tightness and musical quality of the bass were so complementry that it added a tubelike sonic quality to my solid state system. Pianos, cellos and vocals just took on a different dimension with improved harmonics.
A very nice investment for any applications.

Strength:

This is a very strong Sub for just a 10" driver. At first, I was wary of getting less thasn a 12" Sub. However, now that I've had it just a short while, I'm glad I didn't get a larger Sub. I run this one at 1/2 volume or less and it fills my 14' by 20' room with plenty of powerful sounding special effects from movies. It's particularly easy to set up if you follow the instructions for setting the variable controls for the volume, crossover, and phase.

I consider it a bargain at the $400 I paid at my dealer for a new factory "blem".

Weakness:

None that I'm aware so far.

A great Sub for just $400!

Strength:

Crip clean bass... hits hard.... 5yr warranty

Weakness:

none.... My music sounds great...

Sweet bass. My movies never sounded better. The music is great too. I guess may be ya just have to play with the position to get it just right. When I try to push it hard, it doesn't seem to give. The constuction is solid and the power given to the sub by the amp is more than adequate. When you stick your hands infront of the ports you get the idea on exactly how much air is being moved, and this sucker has 3 ports and still moves that much air. I have no complaints My parents have complaints, that it vibrates the whole house. You really can't hear it from this review so go listen to it. Move it around at the demo room because sub placement has allot to do with the way it sounds!!!

Strength:

Excellent for HT, plays low and loud, very kidproof

Weakness:

Weak with music

The PS-1000 sub is a good deal if your primary use will be HT. The enclosed driver design also makes it very kidproof. It plays very low with reasonable usable volume, and really shakes the house during action movies. It is not very useful for music however because it does not produce very tight bass. It is also not very forgiving about placement. I use it with Paradigm mini-monitors and a CC-350. The sub gain is set at about 1/4, with the low pass crossover set at about 60Hz.

Paradigm PS1000. A long time in coming for us and boy was it worth the wait. Described by one critic as "Rock solid and deep as a chasm" and I must agree. This sub has given us so much value for our dollar it's crazy. 10" driver in an aluminium cast chassis, mounted in a bandpass type enclosure, driven by a hearty 130W amp. Allot of punch is an understatement. Our sound meter confirms Paradigm's figure of a 25Hz low point (at which point it does not fade but rather sharply quits). I'm particularly pleased with it in that Idisagree with most opinions who maintain that a bandpass will not be as smooth or musical as a direct firing unit, vented or not. I disagree. Properly adjusted, this unit has reintroduced us to the double bass of the Holy Cole Trio and Mozart's Requiem. All the while bringing to reality sounds in my movies I did not know were there. Though we use it 90% for movies I can recommend it as very good value for both theater and music.

Strength:

POWERFULL, DEEP, CAN BE TIGHT OR BOOMY (ITS YOUR CHOICE!!!), VALUE!!!

Weakness:

I cannot find... maybe if this sub could be a little bit tighter but for the price, it cannot be beat!

THE BEST SUB FOR THE MONEY THE BEST BEST!!! B&W distort at high volume and at low frequencies, PDR AND PW series are not engough powerfull. YEAH! PW are not enought powerfull even if they have a 250W RMS amplifier! The PS-1000 v.3 has a 175W RMS amplifier and beleive me, each watt means something!! At the begining, i found it too boomy. But after, i spent 2 days to find how i can hear a tight sound from it. I succeded! With my Yamaha amplifer, i set it to SW instead of MAIN. At SW, it is tighter and it pounds with more precision. In my bedroom, this sub can push my windows and force them opening!! ABSOLUTELY CRAZY! This monster match perfectly with my Monitor3 from Paradigm. As u can see, im becoming a Paradigm fan! Buy this sub know!! Very recommanded for the price! I put 4 stars for overall because you can get a more tight or better sub for music... BUT FOR 500 HUNDRED MORE!!

Strength:

Great sound and a good value

Weakness:

Size

This mother cranks! I have it at 1/4 power and it rocks the house. I saw the new James Bond movie and the chase scenes with stuff blowing up made you feel like you were there. Bugs Life base tones are real deep sounding too.

I assume that most people get this as part of a home theater set-up and it is perfect for DVD movies. I think it sounds very good with music too. One can't tell where the bass is coming from which is a sign of good equipment.

It didn't have to be as big as it is and it does take up alot of space. I know you audiophiles with no kids/and or no wife think that's no big deal, but for the rest of us it is.

The rest of my system: Paradigm Mini Monitors, cc-170 center channel, AMS-100 rears and adjacent kitchen speakers, Denon 2800, Panasonic 32sf36 TV, Sony 650 dvd/cd changer and JVC 7600 vcr.

Buy from authorized dealers only. Have a pro set-up your system, it's worth the extra money.
