The PS-1000 has found a home in my small video set-up mated to Paradigm Monitor 5 mini-towers and the Paradigm Atoms used as surrounds. Driven by a middle-aged Pioneer Dolby Pro-Logic AV Receiver (it refuses to break and give me an excuse to upgrade!) the bottom end is plentiful and dynamic.
When mated to average electronics (such as my old Pioneer) the sound tends to be somewhat bloated and slow but is still great for movies. The movies "Fifth Element" & "Ghost in the Darkness" have stupendous bass which the PS-1000 output with ease.

Pair the PS-1000 with some really good source components (like my all-Linn audio system) and with judicious use of the level control and use of the low-level inputs, the Paradigm sub can really add an integrated extra dimension to music without calling attention to itself. I always thought that the Linn Keilidh's were pretty solid bass performers, but that extra octave makes a difference you can feel/hear that really propels the music.

The PS-1000 SubWoofer is a great deal at the price. Sure there are others that may play louder/quicker/cleaner, but you are bound to pay much more and the differences will not likely be significant when used in a home theatre context. Definitely recommended.

I bought the sub 3 years ago and it's still going strong. My friend bought one about the same time and he took his to a dance hall and blew the sub since he was playing way too hard and far too long. I wonder if it has some overload protection built in or not. Anyways, I tested the sub using Stereophile's test cd 3. It handled all low octaves down to about 25 hz. Below that, I could still hear but not feel the bass. Add another zero to the price for this sub to do accomplish that. I would be an idiot to buy anything more powerful at this price point only to have too much bass when I watch movies or listen to music. I read a review that said the sub doesn't do much with straight music. Hello! Get your butt off the sofa and turn down the output. Do this to about a quarter of the way up and then see what happens. The bass blends in perfectly and cannot be dectected in and of itself. I'm blabbering so I'll end. I wonder what the ps-1200 sounds like in comparison. I'm going to read those reviews now. See ya.

I just bought this sub about a week ago and I really love the clean and accurate sound it produces. I have it more away from the wall but I plan on moving it closer to the wall or in the corner to see how it sounds. It is not boomy but very precise. I do recommend it very highly.

I own both a Paradigm PS-1000 and a Mirage BPS-150. Considering that the Paradigm cost $300 less than the Mirage, I think it is very nearly as good. I find it hard to find much difference between the two with movies. With music the Mirage, which has two eight-inch woofers in a bipolar configuration, may be a little tighter and may extend three or four hertz deeper on a test CD, but I have never found the PS-1000 to be ill-defined or boomy, as long as the volume is not set too high. I have also compared the drivers and I like the cast-basket design and heavy magnet on the Paradigm better than the Mirage drivers. Overall, the PS-1000 is a great sub for the money.

I just recently purchased my PS-1000 Sub. Let me say that the $449 was well spent. I'm sure there are cleaner or louder subs out there, but not many in this price range. The response in any sort of enviornment (theatre, CD audio, or plain cable TV) is wonderful. Moving it closer to the wall, I had to remove a few hanging pictures in fear of them falling. It produces accurate, deep bass with the tightness you only find on more expensive and larger subs.
I'm very pleased with the PS-1000. When used with my Paradigm Phantoms, Micros, and cc-150, this sub completes a circle of wonderful sound which will make you sit happy.

This sub is clearly the best sub I've listen to in a long time. I got mine for 400 dollars. I think my neighbors are going to kill me, cause the bass coming from it shakes my walls. =)Def. 5 stars!

I just have one thing to say do a comparison for youself and you will know why so many people have rated the PS-1000 so High. I would give it 5 stars but you can buy better subs.....however you are looking at double the price. This sub can be set up work perfectly with any audio gear you just have to take the time and experiment with the dials on the back.
You will not be disapointed this sub will rattle your neighbours walls not just yours.

Have fun shopping and remember to do a side by side comparison listening at one store and then going to another store and listening to something else you will have forgot how the first one sounded.

I have been using this sub for 4 years now for home theatre and Music and I am not disapointed.

I recently bought the PS-1000 on a friend's recommendation, and I can say that it didn't disappoint! I actually think its a little too much, as i only have it turned up about 1/3 of the way, anymore and the pictures shake on the walls!! also, having it on the 2nd floor of a house doesnt help too much either! Once I got it fine tuned with my new receiver (Rotel 965) it sounded amazing, not too muddy or overwhelming. I thought I would have to replaster the walls when I watched the rocket take off in Apollo 13. I highly recommend this sub, it is an excellent value!

I had this in my house for a couple of days. I liked it with movies, but didn't with music. I guess it is really the design - it isn't really meant to be used for music I'm guessing. No matter how it's set, it's impossible to get it to sound right with music - too slow. I would recommended it to the home theatre people who like watching it with stuff like Contact on DVD, but for for audiophiles I'd go for something else.

I recently bought the PS-1000 from a local retailer and thus far I have not been disappointed. It does GREAT for my HT and my music listening. It rumbles my floor, walls, windows and sleeping dog without ever really being loud. I keep it in a corner behind the TV with the ports toward the wall, plus I only have it at half power. Its paired with all Paradigm speakers; Phantoms fronts, CC170 center and Titans in the rear. I watch small dish TV mostly (DirecTV) thus everything coming through the TV is digital. 5.1 DD is outstanding with this set-up and the sub really adds the final touch to my system. Now I need a DVD player. For the money and the performance it gets 5 stars. Heck, every Paradigm I have gets 5 stars.
