Strength:

Produces profound earthquakes in the Dorm, Rich Deep filling bass. Runs Efficiently, i.e. you dont have to shove that much power down its throat to get loud, (its loud by nature)

Weakness:

the hot girls next door don't like me anymore because of loud noises :(

These compliment my Bose 301's perfectly. Watching movies will never be the same without a sub. Explosions are the best. I've wanted a sub for my system for a long time, and I'm glad I waited and bought the right one the first time.... (NO BUYERS REMORSE HERE)... People say this sub isn't suited for music, but more for home theater...As for me and my diverse music tastes, I would have to say my rap cd's bring out the best in this subs capabilities. Deep and constant basslines For 10" sub is a beast, and goes to show just how important the design, and power source/amp can make a difference. While comparing subs in the soundroom, the paradigm put other more expensive subs that were bigger to shame. I doubt I will outgrow this one, but if I ever feel the need, I'll just upgrade to the PS1200, for the price in difference, and thats the beauty of buying at HiFi. For me, this sub was the highest quaility, best sounding, and best overall value on the market that I could get my hands on.

Strength:

Deep, powerful bass, full controls

I have used this sub for about 6 months integrating it first with Paradigm phantoms and then with Paradigm Monitor 7's. In both cases it has performed superbly with music and HT. It provides a smooth full bass though more expensive subs have a greater definition. In HT, the helicopter crash in the Matrix was astounding. Rattled windows and brought family members from all rooms.

I spent about a month fiddling with controls and placement finally getting the phasing, crossover and volume optimized for the speakers it was paired with.

The problems I encountered with boominess were corrected by turning the d*mn volume down. I have it placed in a corner about 18" out from the back wall and about a foot from the side wall.

The crossover also took some work to find that point of smooth transition (55HZ with the 7's).

Work with this sub and you will be rewarded considering the price point. Paradigm once again gives great value and performance for the money.

Strength:

Tight sound, bass you can feel

Weakness:

my walls

This woofer kicks bass!! This is my first home stereo system and I am impressed with the bass response I get from these. It really hits low, I wish I can dynomat my viewing area cause these things really shake and the volume is only at 3. I'd like to turn it up more, but its overpowering. Buy this and you won't be disappointed.

Strength:

Precise and well constructed

Weakness:

Sheer size, and slightly boomy (requires fine tuning and good placement to isolate).

I am currently using the Paradigm Pick.
*Monitor 7s - $600 (bi-wired)
*Mini Monitors - $330 (rears)
*CC350 Center - $330
*S1000 Sub - $600

You think that your surround sound system sounds great, until you bring the S1000 home for an audition. Suddenly your system sounds more complete. Be careful with the power level and keep it out of the corners to avoid boominess. Doubles as a coffee table in a pinch. I think I got ripped on the price.

Matched with Harmon Kardon's AVR20II Dolby Prologic - $500
This is an awesome combo that provides dynamic clarity with precise thump for under $2,500. I bought this combo back in 1998, so I'm sure it could be duplicated for much less today.

Keep in mind, if you're the type of person who likes to critique classical music, don't expect miracles from under $3000 in equipment

Strength:

Solid Extended Bass.
Enough Power to fill mid sized rooms
No Hum Whatsoever
Good compromise between, jazz, classical, rock and Home Theatre LFE.

Weakness:

A tendency towards boominess if you haven't set it up properly.

Not a weakness but if you don't let it be broken in before you make final adjustments you probably get annoyed at it.

Of all the components that have found their way into my HT setup, this one was the one I agonized most over. Active vs - Passive, Side Firing vs Down firing, 8", 10" 12" or whatever I could afford. The decisions are endless, the ability to properly audition subs is almost nonexistent and the consequences (financial and listening pleasure) of getting it wrong are severe.

All I can say is that after endless research (3 months to be exact (It seemed endless to me)) I settled on the PS-1000.

Why? Primarily, Paradigm makes great stuff. They're canadian (so why not support a "Local" company). Many reviewers love the thing so I decided to go for it. Not that that finalized the thing, I pondered the PDR line, I pondered the PS line, I settled on the PS as the hum comments for the PDR seemed systemic and I hate hum. The PS line seemed to have enough adjustability that I could blend it into any room (therefore compensating for lack of audition opportunity) and I settled on the 10" for the basic reason that 8" didn't seem enough and that 12" and greater seemed way too self indulgent (not to mention expensive).

I trolled e-bay for a few weeks and low and behold one came up for 365US$ (including shippping).

The monster arrived within a week o fthe auction ending and I set it up. I hated it at first, way to boomy. Relocating it from the corner f the room to the mid wall (about two feet away, fiddling with the phase alignment and crossover per the Paradigm manual fixed all the boominess.

The net result, great blend with the mains (old Yamaha's (the last holdover from my two channel days) and surrounds (Paradigm Atoms - A speaker that I can't possibly add anymore to whats already been said about them(run to the store and get some)tight controlled bass on acoustic jazz, solid cello and double bass transitions on classical and Matrix helicopters and explosions that will drop your jaw.

It may be my first sub, but I also have to say it will likely be my last. Great Value, good all around performance. Unless you need to fill a cathedral I really wonder what you would need more sub for.

Strength:

construction, punch,detail,price

Weakness:

are you kidding

I am totally amazed at this Sub. In fact, its hard to believe that this 10" sub has more sound/punch then most 12" sub's
at the below $600 price range. As a little note to anyone that has anything negative to say about this sub, "your crazy"
pound for pound best sub on the market today

Strength:

Nice deep bass, frequency cut-off control, price

Weakness:

It's a bit slow for music. Have to keep it turned down for movies, otherwise it could bottom out.

This is a decent sub for the price. It moves a lot of air through the three ports in the back. I did make it bottom out on a couple movies (The depth charge attack in U-571 for instance), and some music as well (Sarah McLachlan - "I Love You" - VERY DEEP BASS, Limp Bizkit "Rollin" "Take a Look Around"). For music should never turn it above half way on the volume, about one third of the way for movies. Helps if the variable crossover is dialed in to crossover with your mains properly. If I could afford it, I would get the Paradigm Servo-15, it is faster and won't bottom out because of the closed circuit feedback servo. But it costs $1600 Canadian.

I am using the PS-1000 sub in video room along with the Paradigm mini-monitorsParadigm 350 center spkr. and the atoms in the rear. I am using a Denon 2400
A/V receiver along with Pioneer 40 inch rear proj. t.v. I bought this spkr.because of reviews, price, and sound. I found that by placing a 40lb.slab of preformed concrete on top and removing plastic feet and inserting spikes I could tighten bass up and with room treatments remove any stray sound waves in my concrete bunker room. On Apollo l3 on lift off the floor vibrations etc. made my small son
think he was leaving for the moon. I feel Paradigm allows someone like me to have a pretty good surround system so I can blow my hard earned dollars on my overpriced stereo system. Highly recommended ( all the paradigm spkrs.)

I purchased a PS-1000 in October '97. I am using it in conjunction with a Carver Preamp, Carver Amp, and Yamaha NS-T849C (Equilivant to Paradigm Monitor 9's, but at a much lower price.)
I find the sub is very easy to blend in with the mains, with a gain control, variable xover (50-150)Hz, variable phase control (0-180)degrees.

This sub can play incredibly LOW and gives a tremendous amount of HIGH OUTPUT.

It is works extremely well in HT applications, but becuase it is a bandpass design enclosure, it sacrafices some bass clarity and definition -- but is acceptable for music.

For the asking price, NO OTHER SUB can beat the Paradigm PS-1000.

My personal overall rating: 6 Star!

But unfortunatly, I can only select 5 star.

I recently purchased the PS1000. I mated it with a complete superone system, for the money there a real steal compared with anything else in the price range I got mine for $450, hooked up to my Denon 3200 receiver switched to handle all the lows it performs very well compared to what I had before an Infinity bu12 which is basicly the same as the kenwood and pioneer in the price range, just plain boomy. The PS1000 is better, more of an organized sound. If your looking for a sub in this price range take a listen.
