Strength:
Excellent out of the box Great thump
Weakness:
not many,... but my driver tanked. I absolutely loved this 10 inch pounding sub until the day that it died. I went to my Paradigm dealer an asked what it would cost for a replacement driver. He told me that it would cost about $200.00 canadian to fix my sub. I just about crapped my pants... and said What? A really good guy at the subwoofer store said thad that I could replace my driver with any driver that was 4 ohm. After I picked my jaw off the floor, he said that you can replace the blown driver with drivers out of car or automobile sytstems without any problems, as long as the speaker to watt power would match. He asked If I would be interested in buying a 300 Watt M/A Audio Sub driver from him. Paradigm has for this model 135 Watts. I bought it for ... get this $30.00. I bought it not knowing the result of my purchase. I installed this little baby totally blind and oblivious to the end result. I plugged it in, and turned off my Paradigm PW-2200. Holy crap did the replacement driver ever beat the S@#t out of the original driver. The thump is unbeleivable. I played the new Lorreta Lynne CD, which is produced by Jack White from White Stripes. I was totally mesmarised and blown away at the bass and sound. This is the new driver I had bought. I was un@ucking beleivable. M/A AUDIO products kick some serious ass. I have punched the sh#t out of this sub and have not come up with a single reason to replace the driver with OEM. the issue that some of us have with buying replacement drivers will dissipate with this posting. When you driver fails , look outside of the box. If you are as lucky as I was, you will do just fine. Keep in mind that OEM is not always the bestway to go. Similar Products Used: Paradigm PW-2200. Awesome F@&king sub. the best. Don't kid yourself the PW-2200 is superior to any Subs out there. At half or much less than the price of subs costing two or three times as much. The Paradigm PW-2200 is without doubt the best sub that I have ever owned. |

Strength:
Plays loud enough...
Weakness:
...but not deep enough. Also is a bit sluggish. It can't keep up with the other speakers. Bottom line is, that this isn't a very good sub. Sure it can deliver some extra bass, but not that much that you should go for it. This is for everyone: DON'T buy a sub that costs less than 400$. You can't really call it a sub if it doesn't play DEEP (20Hz or at least 25Hz). Similar Products Used: Velodyne, Jamo, B&W. |

Strength:
Lots of pant-cuff flapping power and tight, controlled bass. For the $500 Canadian I paid I don't think anything else would touch it.
Weakness:
Before hearing the series four PS1000 I would have said the bandpass design was a drawback but whatever changes Paradigm has made have really tightened up the bass on this sub. I used to own a PS-1000 series II sub which I loved for home theater. After a while I grew a little critical of its performance when playing music. It seemed ploddy and a bit one-notey on fast jazz material. So I got rid of it. The other day I was in a store that sold Paradigm and I talked to the salesman who said the PS1000 series four is a different animal today -- much quicker on music. I listened and noticed a big difference over the series II. Paradigm product support confirmed the driver and the amp have both been redesigned and the bass is better defined. Believe it. I love this sub for both music and movies. It extends lower (22 hertz) than my old PS-1000 and really shakes the large (13 by 24) room. Similar Products Used: Quest QS10 and Mirage BPS-150. |

powerful, tight, deep and cheap. Small and easy to place .
Weakness:
none so far. This sub will knock your socks off.For the price you just can't beat it.I've got a pair of those and the x-30 control. At first I tried only one ,I was really impress how this sub Is powerful, deep and thight. And when I put the second one with the controler(witch I recommend strongly,if you can afford it.)It was ground shaking power. Strength:
straight pure bass tight and neat.
Weakness:
Still looking for one. It is perfect for the size. My Dad is good friends with the owner of the place were I got this sub. So right off I had no issues of trust or worry. For one year now I have beat this sub to death just trying to find a flaw. I have not found one considering it is just a ten inch sub. I must say that anyone considering a new toy for there system should consider this. You will not be disappointed for the money. My receiver is a Pioneer 906s 100x5. Nothing major just basic but it sounds great. However I have just upgraded my whole system to Integra and upgraded the main speakers, the sub, and the rears too. |

POWER CORD OMG ITS GARBAGE SPRING CLIPS CAN GET A LITTLE CONFUSED IN VERY FAST SONGS PLACEMENT SENSITIVE I bought the pdr 10 first, but was very unhappy with it when i got it home.So i returned it facing the usual bad reception u recieve when returning something to a store. But i knew i wanted something better and better i got. The ps 1000 is so much better then the pdr 10 they dont even compare. The pdr 10 huffed and puffed and couldnt keep up with any music with some pace in it. But to my suprise for only a mere 200.00 more CND i got a sub that could stay with every song i've thrown at it except 1 (which is a very fast hard beating song by CYRSTAL METHOD). Anyways the pdr 10 would only put out 1 pitch in home theater sort of a THUMP, where as the ps-1000 can do some more complicated pitch variations. And this is what i was looking for when my search began. Know 1 thing people need to realize with this sub is it is just a very good sub for the money it is able to shake your house and keep up with most music but what i am slowly learning is u get what u pay for usually and in this case u get a lot for 565.00 CND. So if this is the most u want to spend on a SUB get the PARADIGM PS 1000, it is as good as it gets for this price range i even like it better then the B&W ASW 600 but that is my personal opinion. I also like it better then the ATHENA AS-P400 which is very well reviewed. Now i also listened to the PW 2200 and couldnt say i found much difference between this and that but alot of it has to do with enviroment and electronics so who knows, i still might go back and get the PW 2200 because i am building an all paradigm STUDIO SERIES setup and they recommend this or the SERVO 15 for the whole STUDIO SERIES line up. But when all is said and done if u read this review u are looking in this price range so do yourself a favour and buy this sub u will be happy and 1 more thing these SUBS need time to break in and also warm up so dont judge until this is done. hometheater and music applications
Weakness:
Size limits placement in a smaller room. This sub is one of the best subs I have heard under the one $1000cdn range of subs. Tight and low bass and low ditortion. I have spoken to some dealers about the hum many have indicated here on the forum and they have worked with paradigm to isolate the matter which seem to be that it in most cases was due to interference from inexpensive speaker wires or some sort of outside interfernce. Anyways currently I have heard no hum. Similar Products Used: bose |

Strength:
1. Can't imagine needing anything louder for movies. 2. Price, only $200 more than bottom of the line Paradigm sub.
Weakness:
1. May be a little large for some. 2. The amp in the sub does emit a humming sound, but in mine you have to hold your head right next to it. This purchase for me was an upgrade from the Paradigm PDR-8. This was the sub that came with the cinema series package. The PDR-8 was an excellent sub for my apartment (won't bother neighbors too much), however I recently bought a house and the PDR-8 couldn't fill my new larger room with bass. Oh my goodness!!! This sub will enlighten you to a whole new experience when watching movies. I'm hearing (and feeling) stuff that just isn't present in lesser quality subs. Performance with DD or DTS movies is excellent, mostly because there is a lot of LFE in these formats. Watching television off the digital satellite also will provide great sound, however you will soon find out that DD or DTS is a superior audio format to stereo or even pro-logic. For music this sub sounded fine. Music performance doesn't matter much to me, I'm 95% moviers 5% music with this setup. If you want music to sound good buy tower speakers designed for music. Buy this sub if you wan't feel explosions in movies not just hear them. Similar Products Used: Paradigm PDR-8, Various Klipsch Subs |
