Strength:

explosive bass, HUGE bang for a buck...

Weakness:

size, cause to find a place for it shall prove quite a challenge, sometimes could be a bit intrusive...

Well, well, well... Seeing your furniture start moving on it's own at the opening scene of The 5th Element is quite impressive. The bass this unit produces I would describe as juicy and spacious with almost 3D quality to it.
Yamaha does go lower but sound it produces is somewhat tighter (not more controlled) and dryer. Dali, which is quite good with music, is not a sub for HT staring at 35Hz.
Though this sub is supposedly has just 180W of power (V3 model) it produces at 20% volume more sound than Yamaha (which is almost 250$ more expensive) at 70%. The sound is somewhat brighter than naturally should be and slightly has sort of feel of been in the tunnel but rather well controlled and effortless. This Sub is made to impress. But there is more! I did sort of expect it to perform well with DVD LFE material but its articulation with music was really bug surprise!
But this sub is not without a problem. And the Biggest one is placement. When I just got it I was so much in the hurry to hear it play that I just put it almost in the middle of the room, but that would hardly qualify as a permanent place for sub to be, though given the size of the beast it could be employed as part time coffee table:> Problems came when I tried to move it closer to the wall or corner. Bass does rather easily get unruly...:< And taking volume down from 20% loses some of the finer details in sound... So placement, unlike in the case of Yamaha's YST800, cold be a problem and it well could tip a balance in favor of Yamaha. After all Paradigm PS1200 V3 is a very worthy candidate to any HT, but always remember perception of sound is highly personalized, so always, ALWAYS go and get your sub or speakers for home try before buying it!!!

Strength:

Powerful, earthshaking, loud and the plain and simple fact that it's a Paradigm product. I will never use any other brand of sub. This sub has met and surpassed my hopes and expectations of any sub out there.

Weakness:

Very heavy, 70 lbs. It makes moving to and from college a real workout.

My Monitor 3's out perform many subs out there. You might ask why get a sub then? Well, I like the feeling of my chair shaking when T-Rex walks onto the screen or when 007 blows something up. I listen to my music more now than I ever have before. With this sub I have heard the full spectrum of sound intended for your ears by the performer. The sub is just amazing, even if you don't buy one I still recomend going to your local dealer and atleast listening to one, you WILL wet yourself!

Strength:

Many hookup options, Most deep bass bang for the buck

Weakness:

The PS-1200 is an outstanding sub for the price. It provides plenty of output, has many setup options and is a great sounding sub. My wife says the love-seat next to it vibrates during LFE effects in movies. I highly recommend this sub to anyone who wants high performance at an affordable price.

I got this Sub for $530, $100 off of the price during a Christmas sale. I have shopped around for 6 months and listened to Boston Acoustics, Velodyne, Definitive, M&K and many more. For this price and for HT, no one can do better than this sub. For music it is good too. I am becoming a big fan of Paradigm, but not without first giving every other speaker company a good audition. I am not saying that they are the best, but just that I like them.

If you are looking for a subwoofer that has an amazing range, with deep powerful bass this is what you have been looking for. At a very resonable price this is the best subwoofer I've listened to. At 130W with a 12" aluminum woofer this baby shakes every window in the house with more power to spare than I would wish to use.

The PS 1200 subwoofer is an incredible bargain($620.00) It's bandpass design is truly the best I've ever heard(never liked bandpass) and helps it achieve the impossible at an almost an impossible price. Loudness is a very clean and deep attribute for this sub, being very musical at the same time. Highly recommended!!!

I owned the PS-1000 for 2 years and loved it. I just upgraded to the PS-1200. At first I didn't really notice a big difference. But as time has gone on I'm noticing a more authoritative bottom end. They are breaking in and this is to be expected. But there is also less boominess and more tight punch. I'm getting more and more and more excited about this sub. If the ps-1000 gets a 5 star rating (and it does) than you know what this one gets for $150 more.

I just got one of these subs for christmas, and i must say it really rocks... i thought my main speakers with 2 15's had lots of bass but i was wrong... this sub totally blows them away, is much clearer, and isnt muddy at all. I listened to velodyne va810x,va1012, a jbl 12"(forgot which), and an infinity bu-2, but this paradigm just eats em up. the only thing comparable is a velodyne 1215, but that was $999 so the paradigm is a better deal for the money. i am very happy with the quality and sound from this sub, for $600 you cant beat it.
Jeff.

This is one of the best subwoofers I have heard for the money (and for considerably more money, too). Solid, heavy weight bass that gets down low and strong. I thought that there was a vibration problem with my unit, but it was only the pictures on the walls shaking. Paradigm definately has a winner with this unit, but all of their speakers have clean clear sound that is as smooth as silk.

The biggest problem with the PS-1200 is trying to keep the nails from comming out of the houses siding!!! Great work!!! Dont cancell them or improve them Paradigm...
