I searched through a virtual cornucopia of available brands and models. Right away stuff like Cerwin Vega, Klipsch and the like were a/v type subs that compromised depth and definition for SPL and boom. I wanted something that would hit the bottom, yet allow movie explosion effects. B&W, M&K, velodyne all had decent subs from $650-$1000, but NONE could give me the detail, SPL AND bottom end that the Pw-2200 could. |

It's been 2 months since I bought this and was very disappointed when I first set it up and was ready to put it up for sale at eBay and on this site. Then I figured that maybe I need to break it in. Break-in it needed, now I'm very satisfied with it, it shakes my brick wall. I can feel the rumble when the torpedo's in crimson tide explode. This sub is great!!!!! Just need to figure out where will it look and sound good in the family room. |

I have had this sub for 4 months and it really shakes the walls. One of the best subs you can get for less than $1000. I needed a good sized sub to go with my Monitor 7 mains. The PW-2200 definitely does the trick. |

Strength:
Deep and clean Bought this sub 14 months ago with 5 LCR-350s [which I've also reviewed here]. I've done a fair bit of moving this box around the room, and have found that even a few inches can make an audible difference. |

This is the gem of my system. My room is 11x17 with a 16 foot cathedral ceiling and this sub fills it with all the bass I could ever wish for. From LFE for HT use or for rock, rap & dance music, this sub does it all with out a problem. If anyone is trying to decide between this sub and a Paradigm PS-1000 or PS-1200 please take my advice and put out the extra dough for this baby. I picked it up in Toronto for approx. $575.00 USD and for that price you can't go wrong. The rest of my system consists of:Paradigm Titans (mains)Older |

Great clean sound.
Weakness:
Transformer hum I read a number of reviews about this product and the Definitive PFTL15 before I purchased the PW-2200. I own a set of Definitive BP10's that are about five years old. They are great speakers. I went to my local dealer to audition the PFTL15 and the Paradigm PW-2200. I fully expected to walk out the door with the PFTL15, especially since the Paradigm costs $80.00 more. I listened to both subwoofers using the Stereophile Test Disk #3. The test disk has a track where you can listen to test tones that range from 200 Hz down to 20hz. In comparing the two subwoofers I noticed that the Definitive seemed to drop off in volume considerably after it got below 40hz. The PW-2200 kept on playing, but it gave out grunts and groans in protest from its port. I have never noticed port noise since I brought it home and listened to it. I also went down the street and listened to a Velodyne CT-150. The Velodyne sounded good, but below about 40hz it just plain stops playing. If you have read the reviews in Sound and Vision, they had the same opinion of the CT-150 and the PW-2200. Similar Products Used: BSR passive subwoofer |

Solid bass

A little pricey for 19 year old college students I purchased this subwoofer back in November of the past year and was waiting until I had moved it into a room bigger than my 15' x 17' bedroom so I could let it flex itself in a larger room. Before I boguht this sub I demoed the Paradigm PS-1200 subwoofer which is a 12" in a bandpass enclosure. That sub is loud, but obviously sounds flat and doesn't have as much punch because of the enclosure it is housed in. Now the PS-1200 shook my parents 25' x 30' family room and I only expected even better things from the PW-2200. I have the sub crossed up at 75hz with a pair of Paradigm Monitor 7's for mains. The volume on the back is turned up a little over 1/4th of the way, with the bass set to "0" on my RX-V795A receiver. For the first couple months I was extremely satisfied with the performance. It was nice and loud, very clear, didn't sound muddy at fairly loud volumes, and didn't bottom out like my old Boston Acoustics SW10 subwoofer. It did seem to overpower my Monitor 7's though, but that was fixed by moving everything in my room around, basically just reversed the side the stereo and speakers were on. Well, I finally managed to A. Get a DVD player to test the sub out in a 5.1 environment & B. Move the sub to a larger room to let it breathe. I took my whole setup over to my friend's house where we set it up in his 23' x 16' family space. I placed it in the front right corner and off we went. The PW-2200 filled the whole room with alot of bass. Walls were shaking and the TV tube kept flickering. Watching Saving Private Ryan and The Fifth Element was a real treat. The bass was so loud that after a while I got sick of having my head rattled by the change in air pressure. I took her home. Now at that point I figured that after having used the sub for 4 months it would have been broken in. Uh uh, Now it sounds even better and crosses over much better than it did before. I don't have the problem of it overpowering the Monitor 7's. Could be both that ended up having their sound refined by the extreme volumes we played them at. Who knows, but I am very happy with this sub. I paid $700 USD from my local dealer. Pricey, but worth it. Cabinet is larger than my old sub, but not huge. If you're looking for new mid-fi equipment, check out this subwoofer. I didn't bother listening to many after reading the reviews on this site. I did check out the Velodyne CT120 and the Definitive 15"(can't remember the name...something like PF15TL). Similar Products Used: Boston Acoustics SW10 |
