Weakness:

not enough bass for my room

Brilliant sub with lots of boom. Nothing wrong with the sub, but its good for a small to mid size room! I have a large room. I upgraded to a psw 450 what a difference. If anyone is interested im selling it for 150 BRAND NEW IN BOX.

Strength:

Small size.

Weakness:

Not much power(no kidding)

Only for those with a very small room!

Good entry level sub. But seriously consider spending about $300 more in order to get into the range where you will actually be able to improve your music. I believe a sub should do a little more then just dole out "lumps" of low frequencies.

A quality sub should be able to enhance your listening enjoyment not just make wish you had quake-proofed your home, and checked to see if the neighbors were out.

You could do much worse than this sub though.

I moved up to the 350 but eventually returned it and went to the Bostom Acoustics PV800 for $800. Now grant it, thats double the money, but this is one extremely important part of your system. The only other piece that is perhaps as important is your center channel. DONT SCRIMP ON EITHER OF THESE TWO PIECES !

I wish you,

Strength:

It was free with my CS1000p center channel speaker. (You can't beat free!) It has a suprizingly big sound with clear, smooth bass.

Weakness:

No LFE input.... Have to use Line-Level or Speaker-wire inputs.

Set up:
Receiver: Denon 3801
Front: Polk Audio Signature SDAs (1990)
Rear: Polk Audio RT800i
Center: Polk Audio CS1000p

I got this sub free with my CS1000p center channel speaker from Crutchfield. I really thought the sub would get "lost in the mix" with my big SDAs and my center speaker with built-in powered subs, but it really adds a nice touch and rounds out some of the lower frequencies. I haven't heard the sub struggle yet, nothing but clear smooth bass. (that actually surprised me; but I'm not complaining!) This sub won't shake the house like the world is coming to an end (the SDAs handle that!), but it is not a bad sub at all. When I get some extra money, I want to buy a PSW450 or PSW650 for LFE+Main low freqs. I'll move the PSW250 to the back of the room to handle the bass for the rear surround speakers. It isn't a bad sub at all - especially if it is free from Crutchfield! I really think you can find a place for it in any system. 5-stars because I've been surprised by the performance from this sub.

Strength:

Pumps out more lows then any 50W I've ever heard. Cheap for the sound you get.

Weakness:

Tries too hard to be a mid-range speaker if you have the bypass turned up too high.

I've got my PSW250 in a small room, about the size of a den. I think this is just about the perfect supplement to my system, although I think it would be better to have more then one. My 200 watt front speakers already put out great bass, down to 20Hz, so this little guy is behind my couch purely for thump and rumble. Does a great job, too. It took me a little tinkering with the high bypass to get it right. For my system, I turn the bypass down to about 80Hz, because the 250 just doesn't sound great as a low mid-range speaker. But when it comes to rumbling, it gets the job done. I wouldn't recommend the 250 for a large room or if you're really looking to rattle the glass and piss the neighbors off. If you have a 500 watt sub in your car, don't expect this to thump the same way, because it won't. But for the price and for an 8", the 250 has a great range that few others match. The only one of similar size and power that I've really liked more was a Klipsch multi-media sub. If you aren't expecting much from this speaker, you'll be happily surprised. But it won't replace the bigger, more juice happy subs either. And for those of you whining about it not having an LFE connect...go buy a Monster Cable Interlink 201 Subwoofer cable. One end goes into your receiver LFE out, the other turns into a Y adapter that you plug into the line level inputs on the sub. It's really not that difficult. Or if you don't want to buy a whole new cable just get an adapter. All in all, you might be able to find a sub that matches your system better, but I wouldn't expect huge improvements without jumping up about $300 higher.

Strength:

TIGHT bass, inexpensive.

Weakness:

None for the price

This subwoofer was included in my Polk RM6200 set. The 100 watt amplifier isn't the biggest, but with the correct placement in your room it can be all you need for a small home theater set up. The bass is very fluid and tight, but not thunderous. It doesn't blast out the other channels, but it definitely makes itself heard. This is probably the best sub for under 300 dollars.

Strength:

Good Base I guess!!

Weakness:

Boomy and Fuzzy

I guess circuit city had a mistake in their web page or something. The price was 149.00!! at the web page and the local stores did not have a clue on that price. I had to pull up the web page to convince them. I expected to hear a defined effect all I get is boomy fuzzy sound. I guess I may have made some mistake in connecting them. The speaker level I can hardly get any base out of it. I dont know how to use the line level!! I REALLY NEED HELP SETTING THESE UP.. COULD SOMEBODY HELP!!!.
I have a AVR-1601 receiver with POLK RT15i for fronts and RT10s for my surround and ARC225PS for the center. I hate to return a good buy on a good speaker...
Thank you so much

Strength:

Price. Solid construction. Very tight bass. Powerful considering small size.

Weakness:

None I can really think of.

Ok.. I purchased this item brand new (not B stock) for $120.00 including shipping from At Your Service (www.ayselectronics.com). They double boxed my unit & it came in w/o any problems. There telephone is 888.777.7116. Ask for Jeremy Madson & he will help you also I don't know how many he had in stock. I just hate it when I see a review/price paid & nobody leaves any info. from where they purchased it.

Ok.. For a small subwoofer it's really underated at 50 watts. I'm using this sub in a small study & I'm really glad I didn't get anything larger. It really produces tight bass! I auditioned a AR 112PS subwoofer & it was just pushing out bass with no clear bass lines. Just loud. So I listened to Polk's PSW250 at a local retail store & was very surprized with sound. Found the price as mentioned above & I think you simply can't beat the *value* here. I'm sure there are better but for $120.00? Sorry don't think so.

I really wouldn't recommend this sub as a main (HT purposes) but maybe if you have a small room or as a second. For music it's quite useful & does a fine job. Go out & get one for the price!

Strength:

Relatively cheap price, Polk name and solid build quality, good boom for the buck

Weakness:

Very weak musically, output is about what you would expect with an 8" sub, can be very muddy sounding, will require more crossover tinkering than normal along with very careful room placement

I bought this sub at the same time I completed the latest (but not last!)home theatre incarnation with a Denon 2801 reciever.

As soon as I plugged it in and cranked up John Fogerty's "Premonition DVD" I noticed that the drums didn't sound very snappy or precise. I fiddled around with the crossover and the phase switch but still didn't get the kind of response I wanted. I ended up moving it away from a corner (?!) and getting a bit more oomph, but not more precision.

Finally, I bit the bullet and took it back to Ovation for a ProSub 100tl, which has worked out great.

All in all, it is a good little sub, but would only be effective for home theatre in a very small venue (like a college dorm room). I would not use it for music. It just doesn't seem to have the legs to catch up and run with musical nuiances.

Strength:

Lots of sound

Weakness:

Nasty peak at 90Hz, somewhat loose and fuzzy

Got this free with the Polk CS400i and two f/x300i rears. The are loud, but when I set up a test using my Sony DVD to play the Stereophile Test CD's and a radioshack SPL, I noticed a huge peak (e.g. 12dB=+/-2). My listening room is 13x19 ft, and one really notices the peaky part: the windows rattle when you get a low bass note. I guess one could argue that the peak may be from a screwball bias in the Sony (twiddling with the frequency response to sound "better"), but 12dB?

Since it was "free", I won't complain, and as I say, this thing kicks out a lot of sound. For free, a good value.

Strength:

Awsome sound and punch from such a small unit, This sub kickass, compared to much more expensive models

Weakness:

It only needs and LFE conxion and this sub would be the best there is

I picked this sub up at Future shop. I got the floor model that explains the price, and that is in Canadian dollars. A small scratch in the top is all that is wrong with it.

I simple can't say how much of an Awsome sub this is.

You would swear that it has 350 watts and is 15 inchs in size.
