Strength:

cost-performance ratio; great for multiple-sub installations

Weakness:

none

This sub is simply wonderful. I know what some of you are thinking: how can an 8-inch sub put out serious bass for home-theater and/or music? Well, believe me, this sub can. I don't know how the engineers at Polk did it, but this sub sounds much bigger than it actually is. I ordered one (so far...) psw1200 sub from Crutchfield.com and got a psw250 for free. I honestly didn't expect much from this sub, it being free and all. I was very wrong in my assumption.Greatbass from movies (try x-men or u571 at reasonable levels) and from music as well. I won't say that this sub can match the output from much larger units, but that's an unfair comparison. I would also say that this sub would be GREAT for a home theater with multiple subwoofers. How about this setup: for a 6.1 or 7.1 system, have identical satellite/monitors/bookshelf speakers for every channel, and then have a pre-out signal for every channel fed into a psw250!! 6 or 7 channels of home-theater bliss!! Let's just say that you won't miss out on any of the bass from any of the encoded surround channels!! Imagine that! But then again, considering the low cost of a psw250, you don't really have to imagine it...do you?

Strength:

Small design with just the right specs for its size.Produces great bass sound at an affordable price.
Auto shut off after a few minutes when the subwoofer does not recieve a signal.A feature that is on the more expensive subwoofers.

Weakness:

As most subwoofers in this price range I wish that the manufacturers would place the power light indicator in the front rather than in the back. Especially with the Polk PSW250 that has auto shut off mode.

The Polk PSW250 Subwoofer is a great entry-level subwoofer for those that have been thinking of getting a subwoofer but hesitate because of the large variety of models offered.
Great price. Features include auto-shut off along with a clean, clear crisp bass.
Takes up little space. Take a seious look at this one

Strength:

Price; clear, clean, tight bass; auto shut-off with indicator; size

Weakness:

none

This sub adds so much to your home theater, there is no comparison. Well worth the price I paid! I originally thought that I wouldn't need a sub and then bought this one thinking that I would just take it back if I didn't like it; NOT A CHANCE! For the money, you can't go wrong.

I had just placed a order last week for the Denon Dsw-30 sub from Home Theater Direct. I was lucky to be at Circuit City this weekend and saw the sign about one year one time speaker upgrade. i made it by five days and traded my infinity RS4`s for the Polk Audio RT800i. I received the PSW250 Polk sub free with the speakers. anything free can`t be good. WRONG.This is a great sub.Watched Gladiator on DVD last nite and this sub really performs.i received The Denon sub today and was lucky to be able to compare them side by side. The Denon Dsw-30 is not even in the same ball park. weak bass and very flat sounding. needless to say, i will be returning the Denon sub back to Home Theater Direct.

Very powerful bass!Friends cant belive its an eight.

Weakness:

Are you kidding? Its a Polk there are none!

For 237 dallars I thought it may be the only Polk audio product I wont like.I hade 500 dallars (my 15th birthday)but I figured that If I didnt like it I could take it back.I was wrong, dead wrong! It kicks a**!It sounds better than my old Infinity or my neighbors JBL.Its loud, clear and well constructed. As soon as I got it home hooked it up and decided I would keep it I disassembled it.The cabinet is made of 3/4 inch mdf on sides and 1 inch thick on front and back. The amp is a 50 watt RMS High current capble with .03% THD at 1 khz from 30 to 200 hz.Its peak powrer is a 125 watts and is 1 ohm capable! Most manufactures rate thieir subs in peaak power ,but Polk rates RMS so it seems like its not powrerfull until you decide to hook it up.Becides a 90 decible sennsitivity speaker at 100 watts is only 109.4 db and a 95 db sennsitivity speaker is 117 db !An extra 3 decibles of sennsitivity makes a speaker just as loud with a amp of half the power of the lesser sennsitivity sub.The 8 in this sub is 94 dbs at 1 watt 1 meter so it can uiltametely reach 115 in aperfect room or about 105 or 106 in a normal not so acoustically friendly room. With atesc CD of mine it reaches 22 hz at 96 dbs!Awsome for a 50 watt 8 inch sub!Go ahead and buy it it matches well with any speakers including my Polk RT-800 towers and with a price of 237 dallars or free with RT-800 towers a Circuit City you cannot go wrong.(see my review on Polk RT-800 Loud speakers.)
Happy Listening,Rick
