Strength:
Great bass, low price, solid build, 12" woofer. Great subwoofer.
Weakness:
No problems yet. This is the first sub I've bought. I read the reviews here and then went out to look for one. I first went to best buy, but they wouldn't match the price I'd found for it online ($149.99). So, I decided to give Sears a try. It's a good thing I did because they had this sub for $99.99 open box. I bought it and I couldn't be happier. Great overall performance and I'm sure it will be better once I figure out how to fully calibrate it with my system. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Strong bass, excellent craftsmanship, mulitple inputs & outputs, unbelievably great value.
Weakness:
The great bass draws me in and doesn't let go, thus inabling me to get stuff done around the house. An absolutely fantastic value at $150, and at simplycheap the shipping was only $18, w/no tax. This sub has very crisp and clean sounding bass, and goes pretty low, frequency-wise (20hz). Tested it first with some DMX (The Omen), sounded great. Then I popped in "The Matrix", the "Lobby Shooting Spree" chapter, and it absolutely rocked. Finally, I played the opening beach-storming scene from "Saving Private Ryan" (DTS version), and I raised my arms to the sky and wept! I guess going from an inactive subwoofer to this one might make me a little easier to impress, but I have heard other powered subs from Yamaha and JBL and friends' places, and we all agree, this sub outperforms them easily. Also of note is that the intense vibrations were enough to get my wife aroused ;-) Make sure to set the cut-off frequency as high as possible, especially when watching DVD's. Strength:
12" cone, price, look, great sound quality, 2 RCA output to hook up more than 1 sub woofer
Weakness:
None This is the best sounding sub you can get in this price range and the 12" cone makes a lot of different. I checked out a lot of subs, but non sounded as good as this one from Sony. Hooking it up made a lot of different in the sound watching DVD movies. Top controls are great and this is one of the best looking sub woofer you can find. Placing it in the corner of the room makes the sub sound the best!. Clean, deep, tight sound and exact frequency response. If you looking for a sub check out a few and compare. You won't find a better sounding sub! Sony did a great job with this solidly built unit. Here in Canada the SA-WM40 is sold as 150 watt power and with a two year warranty from Sony. |

Strength:
Excellent value, easy to install, easy instructions in how to match sound with present Home Theater system.
Weakness:
None. Solid boom sound, exact frequency responce, sound and dvd movies compatible. Perfect with DTS format movies, and the unit does not over heats. The unit is loud and quite when needed. At the beggining the instruction are a bit off explanatory. The people at SONY should include pictures in how to install the unit in any livingroom to effectively squeeze every drop of sound!! Strength:
12", good construction, capability of linking more subs via the RCA-out port
Weakness:
90-day labor warranty, 1 year parts warranty, though. My KLH sub died after a month of use. I liked it, but the reliability of the KLH is not very good and this has been documented in the other reviews. Similar Products Used: KLH 120 watt, 10" sub |

Strength:
Inexpensive 12" sub, very good sound, auto-on/off
Weakness:
Hook-up is tricky. Best bet, if you don't have a monoral subwooer jack on the receiver, is to buy a splitter/combiner at Radio Shack which works fine. The Sony SA-WM40 is a compact front firing unit that for the price is one of the better sounding subs. Very good soft low frequencies from this large 12"/120 watt sub. Decent power, but not a whole lot. Maybe a blessing. The only other subs in its (price) class have documented power plant problems, or they sound awful. Since hitting the market in April it's too early to tell if the Sony is going to have similar power plant problems. If not this is a super value. Strength:
Powerful, big bang for little buck!
Weakness:
If I was forced to nitpick I guess I could complain that the sound could be a little cleaner. Very good. After no one having this modle in stock I took the Yamaha instead. Bad choice. Did a little searching and found one so I returned the Yam. The Yam is good only for music or a cup holder. This sub does very with ht. Very good price for what you get. Strength:
Excellent quality and value.
Weakness:
None Well, I have a surround system consisting of 5-JBL S310 tower loudspeakers and a Sony 30ES DD/DTS Receiver. I have been very happy with the quality of this system, but wondered what a Sub might do to improve the sound. Similar Products Used: JBL |
