Strength:

Incredibly low, deep bass. Can be played at extremely loud levels with absolute clarity. By far the best sub i've sampled.

Weakness:

None.

The only sub i have to compare this to for a similar price is the Klipsch LS-10 (3-10 inch woofers, 500 watt amp). I had both of these at the same time in my home. I was very unimpressed with the Klipsch which i had 3 days before my Sunfire arrived. I hooked up the Sunfire as soon as it arrived. NO comparison! Bass levels, sound quality, the way the bass rolls off, etc. One truly amazing sounding sub! It has knocked off 2 pictures from my bedroom wall which are on the other side of my home....

Strength:

size

Weakness:

no IEC plug, a bear to set up and intergrate, ok for HT
for 2 channel it misses the mark.

Did not like the Rel, The Sunfire just did not cut the mustard in my room, It will play loud, and shake the house,
no doubt about that. I was always aware of where it was, and the bass just was not defined enough for two channel music. My current Bag End is supurb for music, but wife does not care for the space it takes up. My speakers are PSB Goldi and Maggies. I have always had problems with bass in my room, so maybe this is part of the problem.

Strength:

incredible, powerfull. i was and am amazed. it was more than i intended to pay for a sub but i am glad i did.

Weakness:

none

as stated above, i did not intend to spend $1300 for a subwoofer but i am glad i did. i have always been impressed with Bob Carver products. the sunfire 5 channel amp is equally impressive. the bass is so powerfull and adds to the cinematic experience. i listed to a rotel sub at half the price and could not help but pony up for the sunfire sub. i was blown away.

Strength:

Capable of reaching very low bass and can do it with tremendous output. It does best below 40Hz. Above this freqency, the bass gets sloppy and musicality is lost.

Weakness:

Your room can be a hazard if there are unsecure things hanging around. It can go so loud, using 2 of them can probably make you deaf, barf or kill a small animal. No kidding.

Overall, Bob Carver is a genious. For an 11" cube to go extremely low (20Hz, maybe even lower) and do it loud, it is simply amazing. If you are looking for the small sub that really behaves like a real sub this is it. The Velodynes are more musical though but not as much output the sunfire can give at a lower price.

Agree with dkh below. The little box makes more NOISE than it should. You better be prepared to secure this thing down somehow, or it will bounce around like a Mexican jumping bean. If space is your only concern then maybe this is for you. Otherwise, stick to good old fashioned surface area as the way to get the most bass at lowest distortion. You should not consider one of these without first listening to Velodyne and others at similar price range.
For small home theatres without a big amp available for the sub , and you want to stuff this thing under your seat, it might be OK.

The audio store that I bought the original Sunfire from gave me an MKII in exchange after I wanted a longer cut-off time. My original Sunfire "thumped" off after only 2 minutes of no signal. The MKII automatically shuts off after about 13 minutes.
The MKII also seems more powerful at the low end than the original. I needed to do some tweaking of the controls before I was satisfied, but after I did, the T-Rex scene in Jurassic Park never sounded better!

Strength:

Deep and powerfull for the size

Weakness:

Very slow (not tight). Can't be used for serious music. Expensive!

Great for home theatre (5 stars)
Crap for music (one star), because it's too slow.
Sunfire Junior seems to be much faster.

Average: 2.5 stars.

This sub is the real deal. I agree with some in that it really can't compete with an 18" Velodyne or several other large subs (in $$$ and size). The bottom line is that if you want GOOD bass, don't have room for a big monster sub and have the buck for the budget (this is not a cheap sub) ... go for it. This thing will rock/shake an average room very well and is good for music and HT.

I was recently looking to add some "punch" to my classic Bose 901's when I came across this Sunfire sub. It knocked my socks off at the audio store, so I bought one and tucked it away in the corner of my living room. Great addition, but not enough. So I got another one and set it up in the opposite corner. This added some much needed bass while allowing my Bose 901's to really shine in the midrange and highs. I'm thinking of even upgrading with one more!!!

The Sunfire MK2 is an outstanding sub for movies, good for music. It will go downto 20Hz with volume. To function properly it needs to be fixed to the floor, using
security double sided stickers. Then it will not flap or dance around, the bass
will be tight. The MK2 was not designed to compete with your speakers woofers its there to reproduce the lowest notes(20-60Hz).The sub must be cut low, around 45Hz.If cut too high it will sound slow and muddy.Once set correctly it will blend to perfection with medium to large speakers(like the Dynaudio Contour 3.3,
Paradigm Studio 80).I hear no hum from my sub, even when I listen to the active driver(I have a power conditioner, any audiophile should have one). The sub is worth 5 stars, when the setup is right. Most stores who have this amazing product
dont even set it up correctly. To rate this sub anything less than four stars is
simply the result of a BAD setup in the wrong system. The Velodyne HGS-10 is another great product, better for music, less impressive on movies. The Sunfire is $300 less, both subs are great, the MK2 will win on output.Great buy.
