Strength:
Very tight bass. Crossover, volume, and phase control make it very "tweekable" to suit ant situation.
Weakness:
Packaging, took two trys to get one without cracks or banged up corners. Best I could find for the money. Very easy to incorporate this unit into an existing system. The setup took some time but it was well worth it. The unit is not as good as I thought it would be for music, but for home theatre it is absolutely amazing! I looked at alot of subs and some over and above $1000 still can't compare to this one. My room is fairly narrow at about 13 feet but it is very long 37 feet. I wanted a sub that could be placed up at the front of the room and that was forward firing, the CT-100 is it. I got a good deal on the unit and the sales person thru in 15 feet of 75ohm digital audio cable for free. This unit will make any home theatre system come to life, I may never set foot in a movie theatre again! Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Flat frequency response, smooth croosover controls
Weakness:
Size is not a weakness, we're talking about subwoofers here, they have to have some heft to them As an audiologist I'm always looking for a smooth, clean sounding system. I am running Klipsch speakers all around and bought this as the subwoofer. The sound is deep and flat. Forget the "Boom-Boom" of lousy subs, you will not find it here. I had a friend tell me that it did not sound like his sub. No kidding. His is peaky and boomy, like the car next to you at a stop light. The Velodyne CT-100 is a true masterpiece. I tried both the CT-80 and an HSU Research sub before getting this. All three are great, but this CT-100 is the best for the money. It does not have to work as hard as an 8", goes lower, and fills a room more easily. Saw this in another review, but do spend the extra 100 dollars or so and go for this. Best buy under $1,000. |

Strength:
Solid Construction, clean tight low base.
Weakness:
None that I could find. Needed a subwoofer and was on a budget. Stopped over at best buy and listened to the Yamaha, Cerwin Vega, and JBL sub. Was considering the JBL as it was in my price range and I had listened to one at a friend place, while it was decent I was not overly impressed with the JBL and wanted something better, I continued to look. I stopped in over at Circut City and hit the sound room there. Listened to the differences in the higher priced subs and was very impressed. The guy in the sound room liked the Velodyne's and I spend some time listening to them. The Problem was the cost, $400+. In leaving the showroom I found 1 single CT-100 open box for $229, I tested it in the soundroom (perfect) and it was mine! While this sub doesn't compare to the high end ones at Myer Emco with Sunfire amps and a $1000+ price tags, it is definatly a cut above the lower end models, nice tight base, definatly goes low and has more than enough power for a small to medium size room. I would definatly recommend this sub for anyone looking to get something better than the average but not break the bank on a true audiophile 1K = unit! It does well with HT and music and is just a great sub for it's price range. Similar Products Used: JBL 10" Sub |

Strength:
Compact cabinet, deep tight bass, powerful at low or high volumes, auto shut-off when inactive
Weakness:
Too loud for the neighbors When I first heard this sub, I was impressed with the clarity of the low frequencies. Very low distortion. I have watched Mars Attacks! and The Matrix, and actually had to turn down the sub volume significantly to balance with my other speakers, which are Klipsch B2's, I believe. I was also impressed with the bass performance on movies with remastered soundtracks, such as Princess Bride and The Road Warrior. Sounds great with music, too. I thumped Beastie Boys' License To Ill and the reproduction of that 808 Drum Machine is impeccable. For the money, this is a great subwoofer. The bass is reproduced as intended by the original source recording, and is a treat for the ears! Similar Products Used: Definitive sub |

Strength:
Accuracy, price, power
Weakness:
??? Great step up from what I had before. This sub is accurate and powerful. I live in an apartment and this unit must be kept a bit lower than I'd like. Coupled with my Denon 3200 and Polk RT800's this sub rocks on both Ht and music. Similar Products Used: Optimus pro sub |

I love this sub,I spent a couple weeks auditioning subwoofers and when I listened to the velodyne immediately I said that is smooth and solid. I have B&w 601's and a denon receiver and I am completely happy. I thought I might need the ct120 but I have a medium size room at the ct 100 does more then enough. |

Strength:
Good overall performance for HT and music
Weakness:
Better subs available for money This is not a bad sub, but for only $100 more, you can get the Def Tech PF15TL+ which outperforms the Velodyne in every areas possible. The Def Tech is a 15" sub with a 500 watt independent amp that literally rocks your world. Also works beautifully with all types of music. The CT100 is a good all around performer, but why not go with the far suprior Def Tech for only $100 more. Similar Products Used: Def Tech PF15TL+ |

Strength:
Lots of base, very crisp and clear
Weakness:
none, other than it is better than the rest of my speakers. I had a KHL 10" sub and now I have a Velodyne Acoustics CT-100. Ther is no compare between the two of them. The Velodyne sub sounds great. If you have the money buy one. It is worth it, I LOVE mine. Once you go Velodyne you won't go back. I listen to every type of music and watch movies all the time and it works awsome with both. I use it when I listen to music off my computer, from cd, from the radio, from a tape, DVD and VHS. I have had the Sub for about 6 weeks and listen to it about 8 hours a day. To say the least I have been yelled at quite a few times for having the bass on to loud (like you can have to much bass). It can shake the walls all the way down the hall and down the stairs, when only having it at a moderate level. Whether you want a sub for music or movies, it is a great Sub. Strength:
Price-to-performance, auto shutoff, compact, variable frequency and volume controls, outputs for surrounds
Weakness:
very faint electronic "buzzing" when in auto-off mode, owners manual sucks This is my first sub and it was purchased with brand quality, size, and cost as primary considerations. Its hooked up to Denon AVR2800, with Bose 301 book shelf, and in-ceiling Infinity surrounds. It all sounds quite good to me. The combination Denon and CT100 offer a lot of flexibility. The sub can over-power everything else and I probably could have gotten by with the CT-80. The sound is tight with music (I listen to jazz and classical mostly) and literally shakes the nick-nacks off the shelves and rattles the windows with movies (something the spouse really enjoys- NOT). The "buzzing" sound is not noticable unless your very close to the controls on the back of the sub. The owners manual says the unit pulls very little power in auto-off, but I think it (as all audio equipment) should be absolutely silent - no buzz, no hum, no clicks, no pops - and if its buzzing its wasting energy (thus the 4 stars on overall rating). Strength:
Deep Bass, More than enough volume for my listening area.
Weakness:
Controls somewhat hard to get to. Had used the Klipsch KSW 150 for the last 2 Years. Very good speaker for starting out. Then decided to go bigger and deeper, purchased the KSW-12. This speaker is NOT worth the time or effort. The bass is low because it does have a bigger speaker, but the amp lacks volume, and when you do crank it distortion is immense. The older KSW 150 does a better job than the KSW-12. I should have caught the hint that the KSW-12 was not going to work, when I picked it up and it was no heavier than my DVD player, IMO if your back don't feel like its breaking when you try to lift it, don't buy it. Returned this one and went and listened to the Velodyne. Similar Products Used: Compared to Klipsch KSW-12 and older model Klipsch KSW 150. |
