Strength:

Nice complement of connections and user defined settings.
Ability to defeat Auto On Mode for a Continuous On Mode

Weakness:

Rather plain looking and ugly matte finish.
When the main speakers are set to small, it sounds like I am losing much bass on music that sub volume has to be adjusted.

The CT100 is a discontinued model being replaced by the new CHT10. One thing I am curious about are the power ratings. I have seen literature that suggests the CT100 is a 150W RMS/375W dynamic power, but the power ratings in the manual state 110W RMS/250W Dynamic. I know that this such a minimal increase in power that it most likely would not be noticeable. I am not too concerned, but I would like to know if there are two different versions of this sub. Most of us here know that a lot of manufacture's overstate the actual power capabilities of their products.

I am running the following audio system:
Denon 2700 w/ Millenium 2.4.6 dts decoder
Mains - Def Tech BP10B
Center - Def Tech CLR 2000
Rears - Def Tech BP2X

I don't have any control of bass management through the dts decoder which is the main reason I bought a sub since I felt I was losing anywhere from 3dB to 5 dB of the LFE signal when it was mixed into the mains. But in DD mode I use the following configuration setting all speakers to small and let the Denon route the less than 80-Hz signal to the sub.

So far I have been impressed while running movies in DD and dts mode even though I am essentially using two different setups since the dts signal is full range to all channels and the only signal going to the sub is the LFE.

My problem with the Velodyne is music. I feel I am losing some punch I had with running the BP10Bs solo. I have to significantly increase the volume on the sub to get back where I was before. Also I think I may have a hole in the audio spectrum in the crossover area. This is probably more noticeable in music since there is more energy in the crossover area than on the lowend of the sub spectrum.

I guess I have only had the sub for about a month and I may need to play with placement and settings until I am truly happy.

Overall though for the deal I got I am happy with the results so far. Its just the tweaking that may get tedious.

Strength:

very good power, tight bass ,quality cabnit, very good sound for the $

Weakness:

none

My current system consist of Mirage OM-6 maines ,OMC-2 center, OMr rears and a Velodyne CT-120 sub . The main speakers each contain 2 8"subwoofers with 150w amp. This combo with the ct-120 is , well unbelivable in both music and especially home theater . If i shut down the subs in the mains the ct-120 has ample power and bass to satisfy any listening needs . Blends in smoothly with just about any music you can throw at it . Now to the ct100 i pick this up because the price was right and it is built with the same quality as the rest of the CT line . I have tested this sub with my other subs off and it suprised me with the power output and sound even in my large theater room .There appeared to be no strain on the sound and no clipping of the amp. The sub adds now to my system the little extra bass need in the rear of the room. Basiclly you can not go wrong with this sub I have heard subs in the $800 range that did not sound as well as this sub does .

Strength:

Excellent response with no distortion or bottoming out! Enough power for any room.

Weakness:

None that I can tell!

Product performs flawlessly. I have it on about half volume, cutting off the LFE at 120Hz with my SONY reciever and using the direct RCA inputs....it shakes the floors, and windows!! Would recommend that anyone serious about a sub spend the extra money required for the Velodyne....it's worth it!

Strength:

Tight. Clean. Musical.

Weakness:

The power switch could be a little bit easier to access for those wanting to power off after each use.

I know nothing of Home Theatre but can say to music fans that this sub really is a winner. Like another reviewer I use an external crossover (Paradigm X-30) and feed into the sub's line level inputs -- with the crossover set to the "Direct" position. My JBL S38 main speakers are (more or less) full range so I just needed a little help on the low end and I can honestly say that this sub has blended very, very well and has really increased the overall enjoyment of my listening experience. Although the vast majority of my listening is of classical music I do listen to other types as well and I have yet to hear this sub sound boomy or sloppy in any kind of music. My guess is that most of the people who do not find this sub to be musical are possibly using the speaker level inputs with satellite speakers the size of cracker boxes and then having to set the crossover fairly high and hoping that the CT-100 can somehow miraculously make the entire system perform above its true capabiliies. This is just not realistic.
If your main speakers are more or less full range and you can use the line level inputs (and even an external crossover although I am sure that the CT-100's crossover would be of good quality) then I would be very surprised if you came away disappointed with the musical performance of the CT-100. Like I said (and about 100 others before me), this sub is tight and clean and if set up properly can blend very well with the right system. Highly recommended.

Strength:

Handles nicely, pushes a lot harder than the CT-120

Weakness:

None that i see, knobs tough to get too when sub is placed behind furniture.

All I can say is tight! My second sub purchase, after I took the CT-120 back to Circuit City.Getting ready to get another one, just for kicks, for my computer!

Strength:

good bass, but not much different from others in the same price range so look around and listen, lot of hype about what is better or worse let you ears decide.

Weakness:

where do I start. Velodyne need to check the units before going out to the shops. Mine was damaged and had to be returned twice. User manual (book) out of date.

Mine had a busted corner straight out of the box, a scratch across the top and one dial was off and loose in the box.

That went back and the second one had more scratchs on top... I kept it because I was sick of the drive and have to carry this heavy thing back. It sounds good but they need to be more carful with their packing and check the subs before the box is sealed.!!

and the user manual (book) is way out of date and thay have not bothered to update it???

sorry only my opinion but I will stick with B&W from now on.
many others may have had no problems but I did.. so check the unit before handing over you cash.

Strength:

Very crisp sound durning movies. Two thumbs-up for customer service.

Weakness:

The unit hums in both ON and STBY, I need to adjust the volume higher when listening to music. Owners manual could have alittle more information on the settings.

I am writting a review for the CHT-10 that is in the CT series.

I bought the Velodyne CHT-10 the night before Thanksgiving. To replace the JBL that I think was on fire for a minute. Any that is another story! After having it for a few weeks I noticed that the unit was humming. So, I starting trying to figure out why it was doing this, many people told me it was a gound problem. The plug is not a three prong. I went out and bought the Monster Cable Power Bar with Stage 2 clean power, that did not fix the problem. So, I decided to return it. The second unit also had a hum. So I called Velodyne....after talking with one person that referred me to the gentleman who was aware of the problem. He told me there is a rubber mount on the amp that is not doing the job. He also thought that all of the bad units have been taken back. Anyway I have a 'old' one. Two thumbs-up to Velodyne, they are sending me a new amp to replace the humming one that I have.

The CHT-10 is a very nice sub. The sound it gives durning movie play is great!!!! It requires some adjusting when you go from movies to music. But then again CHT=Classic Home Theater. The LED on the back is bright enough to let you know if is ON or STBY. Like I said, Velodyne's customer service is great.

Strength:

Deep, Tight, bass. What else could you ask for?

Weakness:

Feet, Made some replacements.

I have the Velodyne CT-120, but that is hooked direct to the subwoofer out on my receiver. So I needed something to fill in the lower end for my JBL S-38's. This Sub handled the task. I now have a true full range for my two channel stereo. I purchased from ebay for $61.00. It had a blown amp. So I called Velodyne and they sent me a new one for less than $100.00. Can' beat that.

Strength:

Solid, authoritive, deep reproduction. No discernable distortion.

Weakness:

Rubber feet. Controls on Back

Tried the CHT-8, but it didn't have the solid punch to fill my 14 x 16' room. This 10" sub is excellent. Run by a Luxman integrated amp and through a Paradigm X-10, this sub reproduces the bottom end of every genre of music with solid authority. I auditioned Energy, Paradigm, and B&W subs and am convinced that Velodyne make some of the best subs on the market. If a musical sub with plenty of punch is what you are after..look no further.

Strength:

Pushes nicely even at low volume on reciever. Tight clean bass! Really moves some air when ya want it to! This model isn't under powered or over powered. Provides great room filling bass in an average size 8x12 Living room

Weakness:

Lacks a indicator light like some others have to show power is on. You frequently hafta adjust Volume for different CD's or music styles.

Right at home with my Polk Monitor 10's!
ALL my equipment is JVC. AV Reciever is 100watts X5 or 120x2. Listened to the Polk Subs but bass was tighter and cleaner on the CT-100. This one was also a better price and same wattage. I couldn't beat the price!
GREAT for New Age....Classic Rock and Classical music.
Velodyne has been top's in Subwoofers for years.
If you can get a decent price on the CT-100 GRAB IT!
