Strength:

deep bass.

Weakness:

none.

This sub rocks. I heard every sub at every retailer in CT. Only one other sub came close, but it cost three times as much. If you have a home theater system, you need this sub. You will be surprised at what you're not hearing in your movies. This is the best bang for the buck, period.

Strength:

Super bang for the buck and great tech support! Curt at Velodyne can help you get to a good starting point. He's got 50 years of experience.

Weakness:

Needs floor spikes!

Amp - Denon AVR 3802 Satellites - Monitor Audio Studio Series -all five. What a great addition to my system. It is now complete! I would recommend letting today's advanced amps handle the crossover (external on the sub), polarity set at 0 - a worthless switch anyway. Set your volume at 8-9 o'clock, set your cross over at 60-70Hz, and set your amp crossover to 80Hz. This will be a great starting point.

Strength:

Adjustability, incredible deep punching or soft full bass, great price point for a sub of this stature

Weakness:

Wish it was in a real wood veneer like the 15 at 4 times the money

The Velodyne CT-120 is a monster sound for such a reasonable amount of money, that it is ridiculous to even think of anything else in this price range. As a matter of fact, I have not heard other subs in the 2000 dollar level that can equal the clear undistorted output of this sub. Add to that the total adjustability, with phase adjust, volume, and other settings allow you to soft set it for the more classical in mind, or to bringing it up to super levels for movie explosions, or your favorite band hitting crecendos. What is super important, like for all speakers is placement. You can bury the sound with improper placement. It can get absorbed. You should try it all over the room. Forget the science. Keep it simple, just place it everywhere, and you will find the right place, because when you get there it will blow your mind. I go outside of the house, when it is turned up, and you can sense the walls shake from outside of the house. No one else, even comes close. I also have a 1987 Velodyne ULD-15 with the separate 400 watt rms amp. That sub I thought couldn't be touched. When I first heard the CT-120 I was shocked at how it had the same sound. I immediately bought it. I mated it to a pair of DCM-10s. It mated perfectly. Sounded better than mating it to the DCM12s. (I don't know why) If you like the high efficiency sound, that is a dynamite combination for such a reasonable amount of money. I did not find anything else that could compare for good old clean high efficient sound. The DCMs put out an amazing amount of bass themselves. The Velodyne CT-120 is great mated to any kind of speaker. With its adjustability, you can even balance it with the low efficiency, soft sound type of speakers. Check out one of these at your local sound store, such as Circuit City. Bring in a digitally mastered CD, or one that is just plain super recorded, and turn up the treble, and set the bass on the receiver flat, with no boost, and set the controls on the back of the sub, for volume levels at 7 or more, and hold on to your hat. No distortion, and chest thumping sound. I can't tell you enough how impressed I am with this sub. I have a lot of high end equipment, Sony ES, Adcom amps> 3 of them ranging from 300 to 600 watts each, Bose 301s, Sony ES speakers that were originally 3 grand, that I got used for a very reasonable price. I'm into sound, and this sub is at the top.

Just plain rocks the house! The best sound with movies I've heard. If you like to feel the bass you will love this Sub! Sound very good when playing cds to. I have a 12" Klipsch in another room which is avery good sub. Its a down firing sub and I like the Velodyne for movies better.

Nothing I can think of.

I was shopping for a subwoofer late last year and found that the CT120 was on sale for CDN $580 at Future Shop. I even got a further "scratch and save" discount of $80 which made it a giant bargain. This beast is awesome. It goes very low and gives you tight, solid bass. Initially I ran a pair of interconnects from my preamp to the CT120 and from the output of the CT120 to power amp. I found the result not very satisfactory due to some lacking of coherency. Since my preamp has two sets of outputs, I ran one set of output to the CT120 and the other set going to the power amp. That means I'm driving my front speakers (Totem One) full-range, while the CT120 is solely responsible for delivering the bass. What a big difference! After tweaking a little bit on crossover, phase and placement, I heard tight, solid and musical bass without a tad of boom. You know what I mean if you listen to those Erich Kunzel Telarc's recordings and Ray Brown's bass in an acoustic setup. All in all, I'm a very satified owner of the CT120. For CDN $500, this is perhaps the best investment to my system.

Strength:

It goes deep(very close to 20 HZ) Loud, No Distortion! SOLID BASS

Weakness:

Rubber feet should be replaced with screw in type spikes.

I have just become the very fortunate new owner of a Velodyne CHT 12 subwoofer. In this price range, i can honestly say that nothing compares! (not even Infinity.....JOEY!) My listening room is medium size (10x16x8) and this sub easily fills the room with clean, tight and musical bass. One of the great features on the CHT 12 is "over excursion protection" meaning the sub will never sound stressed, and more importantly the driver will not get damaged in 105 db SPL + operations.

Great reviews!!

Weakness:

Does not work and its gonna take Velodyne more than a week to fix it. Ruined my easter holidays.

Bought the sub after doing much research on the internet. Above price is in AUD. Very excited on the day that I was picking it up. Left work early so that I could get to the shop before it closed. But what do you know?? Have not had a chance to listen to the sub at all because it did not work from the very first moment I set it up at home. The last time I heard was that EE has sent it back to Velodyne because nobody knows whats going on with the sub. There is absolutely not a single sound produced by the sub. There is power cos the green light is on but no sound. There is an audio signal cos the light turns from red to green when it is on standby but just no freaking sound. Very pissed off for it had ruined my easter holiday as I was planning to watch many dvds and listen to a lot of music with my new setup. Will post another review if and when I get the sub back but for now it will receive my thumbs down. My current setup: Main - Mission 774 (beautiful speakers, especially when you bi-wire them) Centre - Mission 771C (very directional so be sure to tilt/point it towards your ear when watching dvds) Rear - Old sonys from my mini (old but does the job for now till I saved enough for a pair of Mission bipole) Receiver - HK avr5000. (Very clean power but slightly underpowered when listening to all the preset modes except stereo, Dolby D and DTS.) Cables - Monster

Powerful, deep.

Weakness:

Casing.

No complaints. Got this sub as an open item in Circuit City. Spent almost a month shopping around, listening at electronics shops and surfing the web. Finally talked to a friendly Circuit City guy and he strongly recommended this. Was planning to buy the CHT-10 but called all Circuit City in Phoenix first to ask about open items, and got this baby for the $220 great deal! Something I love about the States, you will always find something you want at the best price as long as you keep looking. To audio neophythes, I recommend calling the toll free number of Velodyne, very very helpful. Also bought the Y-adaptor just like previous reviewer stated. Love it for my music, thunderous for movies. Blended well with my JBL separates plus Yamaha receiver.

High quality sound that you can feel.

I had to purchase a new sub when my old one went boom for the final time. Looked and listened to several different models and decided to purchase the CT120 based on reputation and sound quality. After I got it home and set it up properly, I knew I had made the right decision. Current system setup: JVC 888 Amp JVC DVD 15 year old Bose 301 fronts that still sound great Polk 130 Center Bose 161 surround speakers I had a 150 watt powered sub from BIC America. Lasted about 2.5 years and was very pleased with it. That sub has nothing on the Velodyne. I have the volume set on 3 and I can feel the sound. The sound does not overpower the highs if you set it up properly.
