Strength:

Clean low bass for both music and movies

Weakness:

Power on indicator on front

So far I really like this sub, the lows are clean and
loud (movies). For music its very fast and not boomy at
all. I don't like keeping the power on all the time so
the light on front would have been nice, I know this is
being picky. GREAT sub for the money.

I needed a sub to complete my home theater system and had a budget of ~ $500. I was doubtful about what I would find in that price range and about shopping at the "local chain electronic stores." Fortunately I found the velodynes in my price range and didn't have to sacrifice quality. The more I listen to the sub the better it gets.

Basically everything has been said and I agree, this is a good sub and for the money too. I really agree on the placement issue. I've go mine on the right in a corner next to the gas fireplace and as far as sound quality goes, I'm going to need to play around with it. Sounds good just a bit boomy where I have it (and it rattles the heck out of the metal on the fireplace :-)
The thing is as strong as an ox and you can adjust it to no end.

Strength:

clean bass, no boom. lots of control features and nice build construction.

Weakness:

a power light would have been nice....

my beloved polk audio rt-55's badly need help down low...i finally threw down for a real sub and now regret every other sub purchase i've ever made. it really puts out beautiful bass without any of the negative side effects i've experienced in the past. the thing is WAY too big for my tiny apartment, i have to turn it completely off after midnight or the folks downstaird start shooting through their ceiling. even set to below 10% it rattles the walls and windows. i tossed a bass test tone in for fun and my fireplace frame almost came off the wall. you can get a better sub for around a grand, in fact, velodyne makes one of them...but really it starts to get insane at those levels. if you have a 3,000 square foot living room i can understand it, but i'd have to be in a gymnasium before the ct120 ran out of pressure. buy one.

Strength:

Well built, heavy piece of equipment. Sounds great

Weakness:

no power light

This unit sound much better than the cerwin-vega 12" sub I purchased prior to my velodyne purchase. Great lows, not too boomy though. Very good product, I use it to help my bose am10 speakers out. I'm getting rid of the bose, but the velodyne sub says!!

Strength:

Clean and powerfull

Weakness:

I compared the 10", 12" and 15". The 15" was too much bass for me. It was a close call between the CT-100 10" ($350) and the CT-120 12" ($450), but I decided on the 12" because it seemed to support prolonged bass effects and, from my few hours of comparison, did a little better job with music. But if money was an important issue, I'd go for the 10" and probably not notice the difference.

I mostly use my CT-120 in a home-theater environment. It is the most expensive piece of equipment I have (except for the RPTV), but worth the money.

My philosophy is "Cry Once." Buy a piece of junk, and you'll end up buying it over and over. Buy something like a Velodyne, and it will always have value.

Strength:

Clean, accurate reproduction of low-frequencies from music and movies.

Weakness:

The feet!!!!

I started out with a CT-80 because I didn't have the cashish to dish out for the CT-120. I needed something to fill in hte low-end of my NHT SuperOnes and the CT-80 worked well enough. Thankfully, Circuit City offers a 1 year upgrade where they give you what you paid for your old speakers and out it towards the new ones. This made buying the CT-120 attainable. Anyway, when I got this thing home all I could think was WOW! This thing rocks! It produces clean output all the way down to 20Hz(See Lab Tests in Stereo Review) and all of the bass notes are well defined, not muddy or boomy in quality. The only complaints I have are minor. For one, the feet that are supplied seem rather small for a sub this big and heavy. The adhesive used totally sucks! I ended up having to superglue them to the bottom. The only other complaint I can think of that was touched on earlier, is that the X-Over and Level knobs are detented. But as I said these are only minor quiffs and I highly recommend this Sub. I challenge anyone to find a more accurate and powerful sub for $500.

Strength:

Bass detail is deep, tight and most important, its clean.

Weakness:

Velodyne is one of the best subwoofer manufacturers in the world. I started out with the CT-100 and I loved it. Then I moved up to the Velodyne CT-120 and it's more than enough of my expectations. Clean bass down to 25hz makes me happy, especially if it's coming from Velodyne. For the ones who hated that there wasn't a power light on the subs, then I would like to imply that Velodyne has changed the look on the rear of the subs and also added a power indicator light now. Plus even added an additional extra 10 watts to the amplifier power of the CT-80 through the CT-120. Sure there is even better subs out here with a total of about 5 car payments, but with the new affordable CT models from Velodyne, you want go wrong. I'm even thinking about upgrading my CT-120 to the CT-150 where I know that the sound is going to rearrange the furniture, but also I hate my neighbors downstairs anyway.

Strength:

Tight, deep bass. Earth shattering when pushed.

Weakness:

slightly inadequate in larger rooms (as expected)

While not on the level of Velodyne's F series, this 12 inch forward firing 130w sub is certainly capable of near high end performance. Response is rock solid clear down to 24 cycles (used test disk). My girlfriend puchased this baby for me last year as a Christmas present and I readily admit that her subwoofer tastes are better than mine. Within a week of receiving the CT-120, I sold my trusty KLH to a college buddy. When properly calibrated, the 120 blends seamlessly to my NHT 1.5s and my Krix Equinox bookshelves. The sub is quite musical but also performs more than adequately in the home theatre department. Unlike many of the Christmas presents I received last year, this is one I have no intention of returning. Despite a fairly high price (US $530), five stars to this well crafted, ample performing sub.

Strength:

Very good value. Built well.

The best sounding sub. in the $500.00 price range. I use it for music listing only. I play it through a Pioneer Series 20, intergreated amp. the A-27. I use four Infinity sm-225,s hooked in parallel and stacked and the ct-120, what a combo. The base is as tight or as loose as I want it to be. With the built in internal x-over makes setting up real easy. Placement is a big factor when setting up, so you might want to move it around a bit. Unlike my Infinity that turned on by itself and then blew up one night, the ct-120 is a quality piece. Good construction, solid and it looks good. I bought mine at Circuit City. I had 30 day's to test it, plus they give you one full year to trade up. Not bad. I do not think you can do better for the money and the sound without getting in to High End. If there is sombody please let me know.
