Strength:

Stong bass, nice "Impulsleistung"

Weakness:

goes down at about 30 Hz. Not that pressure.

I bought it in Spring 2000 and i'm happy with it.
In Spring 2000 i built up a completly new Home Cinema System. Onkyo TX-DS575 Amplifier, JBL TLX200 for Sourrund, Canton AV-700 Center and Yamaha Yst SW-160.
Very good at Hip-hop, Dance, Trance, etc.

I enjoyed watching THE MATRIX DVD in Dolby Digital.
The had shaken my walls ;)
Finally a very good Subwoofer for this price (600,- DM).

Strength:

Clear low bass, Cheap, Two of these are better and cheaper than other good subs!

Weakness:

Can't get a lot of volume with just one, Isn't good wih x-over above 70 but who cares.

Great subwoofer! It isn't made for high volume but for $220 you can get one for each channel and produce the same volume as some higher end subs. It doesn't do well above 70hz but it isn't supposed to!!!!! Its a "SUB"woofer. I really don't know why yamaha allows the x-over to go to 160. I've heard a lot of systems and while this may not be the best there is, it is the best for the money! I'm going to add a second sw160 to my system as soon as I get the money and it'll still have cost me less than the Cerwin Vega I was considering. It'll sound cleaner too! By dream budget system is two bose 301 mains, two bose 201 for surround, a bose center channel, and two Yamaha sw160s.

Strength:

Good tight bass in different music types, very good extension and power for a small sub

Weakness:

Lacks ability to reproduce the near-brown-noise spectrum...but you should pay alot more for a 15" low distortion sub for that :-)

I just got this sub back from best buy....I was going to buy it online, but supremevideo was backordered.
I have this system setup to do music playback on my PC.

The SW190 is a great sub. It puts out TONS of volume at music level frequencies. Listening to all my techno/mix/trace/rock CD's now come with a side effect of a rockin computer room ~(10ftx20ft). I found this sub sound a little better for music than does the subs I have listened to with larger transducers. The YST-SW160 is plenty powerfull, but lacks the brown noise spectrum 25hz and down seen in SOME movies.

I bought this sub off of the sole opinions of you guys here and I thank you for your recommondations. This sub is a great buy if you are looking to extend the bass of a current system or offload your mains/reciever from bass work in a smaller HT.

Strength:

Size and ease of placement

Weakness:

for the money...none to complain about

I picked up on of these for my rear ht speakers. It is hooked up in a high pass conf. with the rear speaker outputs only...it kicks! For the money, you cannot go wrong! DTS AND 5.1 movies come alive for that Theater feel..and the 160 dose a great job at keeping up with my main sub.
