Strength:

Great, low bass. Absolutely beautiful! No complaints at all!!

Weakness:

I only have one!

I have to say that I am truely impressed with this sub. I currently have it in my dorm room, which is pretty small (15'x12'), it sounds super loud. A couple of guys and I were watching a DVD the other night and they were extremely impressed. They couldn't believe it was only a 10".

I am so glad that I purchased this sub!!

My system:
A/V Receiver - Yamaha RXV-620
Mains - Technics SB-T200s
Center - Technics SB-AFC150
Surrounds - Technics SB-S150
Sub - Yamaha YST-SW320

TV - 26"RCA (need a new TV)
DVD - Panasonic DVD-RV30
Monster Sub cable
12 gauge speaker cable to all speakers
AR digital optical cable from DVD to Receiver

All in a dorm room!

Strength:

Great depth and agility with movies. Efficient and strong amplifier.

Weakness:

Not so good with music

After owning a Miller and Kreisel based THX Select setup for some time, i was a little dubious as to whether this sub would live up to the amazing power of the Miller sub. Well, i shouldn't have been so cynical! After selling the Miller set up due to space reasons, this sub just impresses me every day i use it. With DVD movies it justs keeps going, doing its low end business with pride. The Phantom Menace audio is amazing, and the Yammy harnesses every low end pulse and explosion to give you the most cinematic bass heard in quite some time. The amp is also very clean and can go loud without any sign of stress whatsoever.
Only with music does it get a little stuck, my stereo pair giving a more even handed response.
Still, for the price the Yammy 320 does itself proud, and has become a very popular purchase on these UK shores. To see how it fairs against some more subs, go to http://www.area450.com and click on Home Cinema, where you will see my review of this sub plus how it fares against 2 more.

Strength:

Small size, looks and price.

Weakness:

Very very boomy. Small transducer cannot produce a 'natural' low frequency. Poor system integration, and not very musical. Shortfalls can be forgiven at the price, maybe!

Boomy with music and movies alike. What should be a thud ends up as a rumble. This sub certainly does add that bit of extra bass, but the overall performance is disappointing. My home made sub put the SW320 to shame. The only way to produce true low frequency effects is to use a suitably sized enclosure. No matter how powerful the amp, nothing beats sheer volume. The SW320’s combination of active servo technology and high power amplification makes for a perfect vibration testing transducer, but a poor musical sub-woofer.

Still the Yamaha does rattle things in the lounge, and annoys the hell-out-of the wife so it’s not good for nothing.

Strength:

Phenomenal bass feel (great motion of air column) without
distortion or eardrum destruction.

Weakness:

Air column exits from side rather than bottom or front,
so can't be placed right next to other components on right.

Having just bought a great Yamaha RX-V2200 Amp, I needed
to upgrade my subwoofer to get bass clarity matching that
of the other six channels.

This subwoofer produces what feels like more of a punch
than anything I've heard short of a $1000 Klipsch. But
it is as much the air mass motion as the actual sound,
as it doesn't hurt the ears even at extreme levels.

It's compact, has tons of options : auto power off/
low/high, music/movie mode, other standards of reversing
phase, 40-150 hz cutoff, power level, and all the
normal wiring options. It looks very sharp, though
I'd prefer a speaker grill on the front to the "wood"
with the gold plate containing power LED and power/
cutoff adjustments.

Strength:

Very powerful amplifier, deep and powerful base.

Weakness:

Not the best subwoofer to music.

This is a great subwoofer at this price-level if you watch movies and music conserts. (home cinema DVD)
POWER! POWER! and POWER!!!

BUT, when you only listen to music (CD) this sub will be, if we say, "too slow".

so, I can recommend this sub if you watch a lot of movies, then it's a great value, but not to music.

Strength:

Looks compact, good accurate bass, accessable front controls, auto on & off sensing,

Weakness:

none that I can quantify

I was reluctant to have to get rid of the Kenwood THx sub as it was one great piece of work & sound. However, my current RX-V1 doesn't have a way to increase the volume of the sub not does the Kenwood amp. I went out & got the YST-SW320 got home set its levels & watched The Abyss - I was extremely pleased with the result & I do not miss the KENWOOD anymore!!

It was my first purchase of a subwoofer to my hi-fi system.
( I bought it yesterday!)
What I expected was ;
1. to clarify lower frequency of music,
2. to extract harmonics from each instrument.
My main speakers are ATC 100 Active which claims the fre. range of 35 Hz ` and with M.Levinson's pre, Studer transport and Wadia DAC.
I played Rickie R. jones'"Pop and Pop",
Bergamask by Arrau( Last recording)
Bartok's Concert for Orchestra (CSO by Solti)
Rite of Spring & Firebird (Cleaveland and CSO by
Boulez)
Bruchner 7, 2nd movement(WPO Karajan)
Hell freezes over( Eagles)
Bach Violine sonata unacompanied( Milstein)
I tried to add its effect as suttle as possible. The cut was at 40Hz and Volume at minimum where I could just hear the effect. After some tweakings, I could confirm that
I could achieve what I expected from this sub.It was very interesting. Now music sounds more alive, perhaps airy
mostly due to the fact that each instruments'sound is reproduced with harmonics. "Bartok"s mystery is emerging and unpleasing high metallic tone dissapeaerd.
What I like to do is to make the bass a little tighter by reducing some boominess.I think I can achieve that by run-in and some tweaks( positining, stabilising, cabling etc.).
There maybe better subs in the market including Yamaha's upper range but for the moment this is a suficient sub for me to pursue my goal mentioned above. For this purpose, this sub is really great value for money.
Yamaha's YST technology has been in existence for so many years as seasoned hi-fi fans are well aware of. I guess the company can offer its product at very competitive price because of it.
It's pity that I cannot compare it to other products at present. But I am looking forward to read comments by our friends about this products and other subs you like or do not like.

Strength:

Outstanding sound quality, excellent construction, amplifier power.

Weakness:

Takes some tweaking on music...

Working as a HT consultant I was very picky about buying a new sub. I checked many different ones and found many I liked. I had an oppurtunity to listen to the Yamaha and I was floored. This sub sounded great. I was wondering how it would sound in my system. After shopping around I found a great deal and it was mine. Initial setup was simple, set the crossover and volume to about half-way and starting playing Eagles (seems to be a lot of peoples test). At first it was boomy and uneven, so I adjusted the level down to about 1/3 and crossover around 70Hz. The soundstage opened up and sounded terrific. On movies it is even better, this 10" will shake your walls.

I recommend this to anyone who appreicates a good product at a working man's price.

Strength:

Great dynamics for movies, versatile settings, good amp and beautiful build

Weakness:

Cannot keep up with demanding music but you can't get everything at this price.

-Good sound at moderate price
-Worth listening for
-Especially for movies
-Lacks precision in music, but look at the price =)
-Competitive to Audio Pro's B1.35 test winner
