Strength:
strong controlled sound
Weakness:
none so far I just recently bought this product from etronics for $279 plus $40 for shipping and it was well worth it. I was hesitant on the sw-800 but figured try this one first and if not good enough move up to more amp. Well in my 1350sqft town home it shakes the walls very nicely :) Similar Products Used: klipsh sw-8 |

Strength:
Powerful, clean bass for HT. Attractive looking and small footprint.
Weakness:
Not really good for music. For a 10 incher, this sub really pounds out a lot of bass. My previous two subs had a 12 inch woofer and I was at first concerned about the smaller driver of the Yamaha. But after reading the reviews I decided to give it a try since there is no risk purchasing from Crutchfield. The Yamaha's 250 watt amp does make a difference. The bass output is very strong and clean on HT. Although I am still experimenting, a volume setting of half-way seems to be ample enough.Like the fact that the power on/off button, volume, and frequency controls are all on the front. The bass switch is on the rear along with the phase control. I do not use the auto on feature.Even with the bass switch set for music, I do not like this subs' music performance. The bass is much too boomy and if I lower the subs' level then I do not get any more bass than my main speakers provide with the sub turned off. This is my opinion and might have something to do with the fact that I have absolutely no flexibility in where I have this sub placed in my listening room.Anyway, I did not purchase this sub for music and for HT it really does rock! Strength:
compact size, clean bass, handy controls
Weakness:
AutoDetect doesn't always kick in at low volumes; is not a "pretty" speaker...stands out from rest of furniture. Excellent sub for the money. Have only had it for one week so can't discuss the fine nuances. Had to return the main driver on my Klipsch SW-12 because of loud vibration. Hope the 5 year warranty works...speaker is 4 yrs 10 mos old. My audiophile expert where I bought the sub recommended the SW320 over the SW160. Said it kicks ass over the SW160. For $50 more, I took his advice. Didn't notice much difference in the rear movie/music control. Similar Products Used: Klipsch SW-12 Series II; Infinity 7" sub (BU1?) |

None yet. The Yamaha 320 is a powerhouse of a Sub. I bought a pair of subs from J&R Music World. One was YST-SW 160 150W 2X8” front firing drivers, and the other a YST-SW 320 250W 1X10” down firing driver. The 160 got to me first and I installed it in my HT system. I liked the new bass and presence of low bass it gave me much better ambience them I had without it. For $220.00 a good buy. The next day the 320 was at the door, and the whole story changed. I replaced the 160 with the 320 and the difference was enormous. The 320 with its 250W amp and 10” driver just blew the socks off the 160 and its 150W amp driving a pair of 8”. I had only paid $40.00 more for the 320 and it was worth every penny. The bass is smooth and clear, and the punch is hard. Not something you see in a sub $300.00 unit. Normally you get one or the other. As for volume level I have it in an 800 sq/ft room and can only stand 45% setting on the volume control. I have found that 25% is just right. I have moved the YST-SW 160 to the garage (it’s a nice garage) and use it there. If you have the choice between the two, save another $40.00 and get the YST-SW 320 period! Sound 'out of the box', musical ability. I've had it for about a week, and after initial disappointment from the sound when straight out of the box, it's now starting to impress. Wired at line level using the Monster THX spec. cable from my Pioneer Elite VSX 26-TX receiver, I was initially taken aback by the lack of depth and inability to go below 30Hz without a significant dB drop off. After all, I'm using a 'THX Ultra' DVD player, receiver and cable, yet the bass seemed, for lack of a better word, cheap. I had purchased this unit because it was spec'd at going down to 20Hz, something unheard of unless you drop $1k on a M&K, Sunfire, etc, etc. After having the KLH (I paid less than $75 for it) modified to give me about 27Hz, it felt like my latest 'upgrade' was actually a step back.
