This is to the guy below, you do not know what the hell you are talking about and you have no business bashing this set. Look at where you bought it from "REX" what the hell kind of store is that??? Your TV was most likely an open box model that has been on the floor for months or your delivery crew were very careless. Shop from a reputable dealer first off like SEARS!!!! Anyone who has this TV, here are some new calibrated settings in addition to previous settings posted below.

Strength:

I purchased this television as a replacement for a Sony 46" tv. The picture and sound quality far surpass the Sony.

Weakness:

Remote control doesn't have good range and has to be pointed exactly in the right spot to work

I purchased the newest model 53SBX01B. It has an awesome picture and awesome sound. Not crazy about glare from the screen protector, though. I have it hooked up to digital cable and actually can't tell too much difference in picture quality when hooked up to basic cable.

Strength:

Great picture. As good as a direct tv. Sound is prettg good also

Weakness:

no major complaints

I researched this set for about a year before buying it. Checked every review site I could find, and probably drove a lot of salesmen nuts asking questions about the various sets out there. I gradually eliminated the main contenders, which to me were Toshiba and Sony. I got mine from HHGreg for $2365, which include an extended waranty and delivery & set-up. WHAT A TV 111 If any of you are doing research and trying to decide which set to get, just as I did, you won't be sorry choosing this set. We absolutely love it ! Beautiful bright picture, wide view3ing angle, good sound. Stop looking ! THIS IS THE ONE 111

Weakness:

Manual is weak on how to setup an external audio system. Remote control is useless.

Overall I am impressed with the TV and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a new projection TV.

Picture quality, features, and value.

Weakness:

The picture quality of this unit is outstanding! I initially had a strong urge to spring for an often compared Sony model or even Hitachi's own digital version. I came to the realization that in a quick cost-to-benefit analysis this was a far better choice than digital and its features and picture quality were better than those of its nearest Sony competition. You'll usually find this unit side-by-side with its digital and HDTV siblings. Sure, honestly I saw a slight difference between the picture on this TV and the neighboring boxes. But let me tell you... the difference was not great enough to warrant spending an additional $1,200 for digital or as much as another $7 grand for HDTV! I would recommend this unit to those looking for the best value and performance for their money. The picture is clear and crisp with all signal sources, to include my now rarely used VHS. I added a Toshiba 3109 DVD player (with component video outs) and was further impressed with the reproduction abilities of this unit. For added measure and to put any lingering doubts about not purchasing a digital or HDTV model asleep, I tossed the factory DVD video cables for a Tributaries SCV C Cable Set. WOW! Just when I thought it could get no better.... I highly recommend this rptv as the first choice for those wanting high, near HDTV quality, visual reproduction without having to spend a small fortune.

Weakness:

REMOTE!!!!

The best picture I have ever seen, great quality, great price, great everything except the remote... it is large, and clumsy, and doesnt make a good signal with the tv... I bought another one from Radio shack that works better, I shouldnt have to! Other than that its perfect!

Strength:

Built-in Surround Sound, MagicFocus, Excellent picture,
lots of connections

Weakness:

Excellent TV. The Sony was a strong contender but the MagicFocus functionality (slightly better picture than Sony), built-in surround sound, and better comb filter pushed toward the Hitachi in the end. Lots of nice menu features as well. Plenty of jacks in the back for DVDs, VCRs, etc., including separate outputs to a stero and wireless speakers.

Strength:

great picture quality for the price

Weakness:

lack of enough av inputs, remote control's dinky quality

found a deal on one at (dare i say it) Circuit City? has the best quality picture for the price and had most of the features i needed, except for av inputs. the magicfocus is a neat feature. menu system is not for the faint of heart, my wife's eyes just glass over. the remote's a joke, however, and i splurged and got on of the sony all-in-one ($150) remotes with programming available for everything in the whole house. the television's speakers are good enough quality for standard viewing, but my surround system, coupled with the tv, really kicks it!

Strength:

fantastic picture and sound

Weakness:

not enough inputs in rear

Could not be happier withe the picture qulity or sound. I looked at both the Sony and Toshiba and this far superior.
The only fault I find as someone with 2 VCR's, DVD and LD I could use one more s-Video input in the back.

Strength:

Bright, sharp picture, powerful pro-logic sound, magic focus

Got mine at VideoOnly who beat Circuit City's unadvertised
sale price, plus they kicked in a 5 year warranty for cheap.
The Sony KP53V80 was in the running too. I found the Hitachi had better detail. The Sony tended to blend in
the fine details on moving objects. E.g. watching an anchorperson on both TVs, I noticed the fabric weave on his
shirt was consistently visible on the Hitachi, but on the sony it was blurred until he was still. I also liked the
Toshiba cinema series 50" (non HDTV), but for a few hundred
dollars I felt it worth the bigger screen. I only get regular broacast TV and a VCR, but both look great.
