This is my first big screen and I could not be happier. Although you can get a similar size tv for less money you would be doing yourself an injustice. The picture quality is outstanding for the size and money. I paid 1,950 plus 35 for delivery and setup at Sears. (Circuit City would not budge from the 2,299 sticker.) The Magic focus is an excellent feature. The sound system in this model is superb compared to others in this price range. For those not wanting to shell out for an audio system the speakers in this tv will work just fine. The screen protector does reflect light a bit but is easily corrected with the proper lighting in the room. The only true weakness I can find is with the manual. It may be alright with others but I need simple and detailed instructions and I don't feel it delivers. But this is peanuts compared to what you get for your $2000. Hands down the best value for your dollar right now in non-HDTV. You might as well go ahead and get a DVD player to go with it you won't be sorry.

Strength:

Brilliant Optics,Superb Color Accuracy.Excellent Tuner off Cable.
Split Screen PIC in a PIC. 60 Watts Speakers Sound Great with built in EQ.
3DYC Comb Filter works beautifully.
Just Awesome SET!!!!
Looks great Day and Night.
3 svide inputs , component inputs, dolby surround built in.
Excellent illuminated learning remote.
Nice high tech design and has wheels to easily move on the floor or plush rug.

Weakness:

Must use calibration DVD to get the best possible shadow detail.
Screen protector could have been made of better harder non warping material. Light Reflections in the corners of set show bent reflections indicating a little warping of the screen sheild.
They should have made one that was hard and flat. This is a minor nit pic because the performance of the set is jaw dropping.
ANOMORPHIC FEATURE FOR THIS SET WOULD HAVE BEEN AWESOME TO HAVE SO DVDS COULD BE VIEWED WITH MAXIMUM RESOLUTION.

AWESOME SET BUT DON'T GO WITH OUT OF THE BOX SETTINGS.

AS SOON AS YOU BUY THIS SET AND TURN IT ON, GO TO THE VIDEO MENU AND TURN DOWN THE CONTRAST TO 25, BRIGHTEN 58, COLOR 20
TINT 1 NOTCH to the right, Sharpness 20 to 30 depending on your viewing preference.

TURN OFF ALL AUTO PIC, COLOR, SUPER CONTRAST , VIDEO NOISE.

ONLY THING I KEEP ON IS 3DYC FILTER
I ALSO TRIED HAVING NOISE REDUCTION ON , BUT THE PICTURE SOFTENS SOMEWHAT WHEN THIS IS ON AND YOU LOSE THAT CRISP VIVID PICTURE. I ALSO TRIED USING SUPER CONTRAST ON, BUT I PREFER IT TO BE TURNED OFF AS IT SEEMS TO MAKE BRIGHTS TO BRIGHT, LIKE THE MOON FROM NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, LIGHT SHOULD NOT BE BLINDING, SO I CHOSE OFF.

ASLO I FOUND THAT A DIRECT CABLE CONNECTION TO THE SET USING RG6 CABLE DELIVERS A VERY VERY NICE SIGNAL AS OPPOSED TO RUNNING CABLE THROUGH A CONVERTER BOX. FOR THOSE WHO NEED A CONVER FOR PAY CHANNEL. I SUGGEST THAT YOU HOOK UP DIRECT CABLE TO ANTENNA A AND THEN VIA THE INTERNAL SPLITTER , USE THE CABLE DECODER BOX IN ANTENNA B. SO YOU CAN ENJOY ALL YOUR LOCAL CHANNELS WITH THE BEST PERFORMANCE AVAILABLE ON CABLE, WHILE STILL ENJOYING YOUR PAY CHANNLES VIA THE BOX'S TUNER VIA ANTENNA B.

FOR THOSE THAT HAVE SATELLITE OR DIGITAL CABLE , YOU GUYS ARE GOOD TO GO!!! LIKE I SAID DIGITAL SATELITE SIGNALS,DVD< LASER DISC, AND DIGITAL CABLE ARE JAW DROPPING!!!!.

FOR THOSE CONTEMPLATING A DIGITAL SET, STOP AND WAIT!!!!
YOU WILL NOTICE THE PIXELIZATION ON A SET THAT IS NOT RECEIVING A PROGRESSIVE SCAN SIGNAL, IT IS VERY GRAINY.
AND RIGHT NOW AS IT STANDS DIGITAL BROADCAST ARE STILL SCARCE. YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO SPEND MORE MONEY ON A PROGRESSIVE CSAN DVD PLAYER LIKE THE TOSHIBA HAS AVAILABLE.

TRUST ME, YOU CAN RUN ANY DIGITAL SIGNAL IN THIS TV WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT AND IT WILL LOOK AWESOME!!!!

BUY ONE AND TRY IT FOR 30 DAYS , IF YOU ARE NOT SOLD THEN THEY WILL PICK IT UP AND RUFUND YOUR MONEY. Believe me , I TRIED TO FIND A REASON TO RETURN THIS SET AS 2000. was alot to part with for a TV. BUT IT IS NOT YOUR ORDINARY TV EXPERIENCE. IT IS TRULY AN ESCAPE TO THE MOVIE THEATER EVERY NIGHT OF THE WEEK. IN THE END WORTH EVERY PENNY FOR THE ENJOYMENT IT BRINGS. I LOVE IT .

FOR THOSE LOOKING AT THE SONY V85 SERIES, YOU WILL CLEARLY SEE THE SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE THE HITACHI HAS IN PICTURE DETAIL, COLOR ,SOUND, DESIGN. IT ALSO BECOME PAINFULLY OBVIOUS WHEN THERE ARE FAST ACTION SEQUENCES, THE SONY JUST CAN'T KEEP UP.

i've got a little under 9000.00 tied up in this system...i know ....its nuts but i like it.the tv is hooked through a yamaha 995 a/v...also i have top of the line sony dvd and top of the line jvc vcr...i also brought a satellite audio and vedeo dig.it was more than the standard satellite i strongly recommend for sound.i found out in the long run that the cables to and from your equiment should be the best you can afford.i have the boston acoustics cr8s and the cr9 for the speakers and vr10 for the center...the 800 series sub-woofer for bass and special effects.the room my system sits in is a 10x14...with the 53" tv and the system i have hooked to it....wow..its better than being at a theater.if you are using coxal cable...thats crap...go to s-video and not cheap ones either...also get away from that cable tv crap...you are wasting your money...go to direct tv satellite or other satellte...you get more for your money
