it breaks every time you turn around. It should have been replaced, it's defective I purchased this tv 1/2003, it needed to have the Main Board replaced 4/2004. In 7/2004, it again needs repairs. What's with that?? |

Strength:
Every connection you could ever need. Future proof. Extra clear picture. Net Command
Weakness:
None I have thoughly enjoyed this unit. It offers a surprisingly crisp and detailed picture. It has just about every connection know to man. The menu lists are easy to walk through. Net command can help even the beginner enthousiast. I can't really comment on the remote other than it looked nice. After I used it to program ma RM-AV2100 Sony remote I just took the batteries out and put it back in the box. Since I have been using this set I have not noticed any red push. When I bought the set they installed and set it up for me. After they left I put in my calibration disk and went to town. This unit is worth much more than I paid and am sure to enjoy it. |

Strength:
Picture, Device & other Menu's are easy to use, Upgrade slots, Firewire, lots of flexible connections.
Weakness:
Red push can be easily corrected with minor tweaking This TV's picture is incredibly sharp on DVD's and HD signals right out of the box. Some Home Theater reviews suggest professional setup/calibration but it looks great here(ABC Monday Night Football HD). It comes with easy to use menu's and has multiple Firewire(IEEE1394) connections that are the new standard for HDCP and also has upgrade slots which provide futureproof protection. Friends have the 65' Elite and they think this picture is sharper. High compliments to Mitsubishi. Similar Products Used: Looked at Elite, Sony, Toshiba etc. |

Strength:
Crisp, vivid, life-like HD image Good castors, easy to move Well written manual Tons of input/output connections, all types Backlit, easy to use remote. Good compatiblity with the rest of my A/V components. As for HD reception, using a rooftop UHF antenna, I'm able to pull in many local stations that broadcast in HD. I usually don't watch golf, but watching the US Masters on CBS was such a life-like experience, I couldn't turn it off. The only thing missing was the smell of the freshly trimmed green.
Weakness:
Needed serious repair in less than 4 months. Mitsubishi should offer a HD Satellite tuner to complement the integrated over the air HD tuner. The only currently available models available from any manufacturer are dual Satellite/Over-the-air HD tuners, and are at least 600 bucks. This TV already has an over the air tuner, so why buy duplicitous equipment? Make a Satellite ONLY HD tuner at half the price, and I'd buy it. My first big-screen TV. For the money, I don't think you can get a better quality and sized picture. This TV is in a 13'x12' room, and it's 55" screen is ideal. My only real gripe is service. After only 4 months, I lost all red color. I called P.C. Richard and arranged for service. The serviceman came, and said it could be the red tube or the circuit board that controls it. He opted to order the circuit board. It took over a month to get the part from Mitsubishi and replace it in my set. I complained vocally to the manager of P.C. Richard, who continually said that Mitsubishi would not replace the set. The set currently works properly, but I'm ticked off that Mitsubishi would not authorize the replacement of a NEW set that was obviously a problem and took an unusually long time to fix. Also, the salesman really sold me on the firewire single wire connection for components. Unfortunately, I could not find any components that utilize this connection when I went shopping for the rest of my home theater components. Other than on camcorders, it doesn't seem to be in use yet. I would have given this set 5 stars if not for the service problem and the fact that Mitsubishi does not sell a stand-alone or integrated Satellite HD tuner. |

Had 3rd one delivered better picture but not as good as the first before it went bad. The first tv was amazing clear bright colors, not sure what the deal is with the other 2 i have had. setting the convergance on the 2nd tv was impossible it was too blurry. |

Strength:
Tons of inputs, wheels on cabinet, simple elegance, anti-glare shield, back lit remote, integrated HD.
Weakness:
Only 480i, 480p, 1080i. red push is a little bad, stretch modes isn't a very good algorithm. Picture quality definatly differs depending on source. True HD signals are AMAZING. The picture clarity and definition is bar-none, the best. DVD's are also superb. I have both of those connected with Monster2 Component Cables. Normal 4:3 analog cable is another story. I have Comcast digital cable connected by monster s-video cable. Some shows have horrible color and artifacts, while others look good. Still not comparable to the HD signal. But still doesn't look *bad* in any sense of the word. The stretching feature gives you a feeling of tunnel vision during panning left to right picture. The middle keeps the normal aspect ratio, while the edges only are stretched. It's about 5 inches of stretch on each side. I just leave it on "standard" mode and have the whole image stretched the same across the board. Your eyes get used to it after a few days. I have no idea about the sound it produces, I have it all turned off and use my home theater receiver for all sound reproduction. Similar Products Used: Hitachi 57SWX20B |

Strength:
many inputs
Weakness:
don't worry about DVI its being replaced by another digital input (HDMI) I purchased the WS-55311 & I was very pleased with the picture quality for all inputs, so I decided to upgrade to the WS-55511 and to my surprise my old phillips analog tv looks better that I purchased five years ago. For some reason the WS-55311 looked cleaner than the WS-55511 so I called the tech. to come look at it. After adjusting its still blurry, for all inputs. The tech. told me to get a good roof top antenna for HDTV so I did the picture is still blurry for HDTV compared to DVD on the WS-55311 that I had a week and was very impressed by. I'm going to get in touch with mitsubishi to see if I can get a replacement. I'll post the outcome at later time. Similar Products Used: WS-55311 |

Strength:
Net Command, Absolutely incredible HDTV picture, all the connections I need and more, So far no need for a universal remote,"THE MITSUBISHI PROMISE"
Weakness:
Not the best analog picture, even dissapointing with digital Satellite, the remote has a shiny surface that shows finger prints and drives my wife crazy, the fact that my $200 Sony Commander remote is now collecting dust. I want to first inform everyone who has a Best-Buy store and thinking of buying their model WS-B55 (AKA WS-55511). This is a Best-Buy exclusive model and the only difference that Mitsu will admit to is that the protective screen is a "Plastic diamond sheild" instead of the color tuned diamond shield screen on the 55511. Best buy of course does not tell you this and supposedly does this to cut cost but the sticker price is the same as the 55511 at other stores. Now on with the review......This Wednesday 3/26/03 I will recieve delivery of my 3rd WS-B55. The first had a completely white screen w/only bright colors visible and the second has a problem with the DVD input (Grainy pic even w/a progressive scan DVD). Overall this is a great Big Screen with all the inputs I could possibly need for now and the future(if fire wire catches on) not to mention the promise module and Net Command which has worked great especially for my wife who had trouble just turning of the T.V. before. As mentioned if you only have cable or Sattelite you will be dissapointed with any wide screen, Standard mode makes Monica and Rachael on Friends look 200 lbs. large and the sretched mode slightly distorts the image on the edge of the screen although you do get somewhat used to it....eventually. I have a few good local channels available in HDTV and all I can say is ..AAAAUASOME!! The picture is crisp and clear color is on the money(after some adjustment to get the red out) and the screen is filled perfectlly with no stretching or blimpy Monica! I cant say I can suggest getting the Best-Buy model if I knew then what I know now I probably would have gone somewhere else for the 55511. I'll let you know if I have any problems with the 3rd go around. 3rd times a charm, right? Similar Products Used: First Big Screen |

Strength:
Great HDTV and DVD picture.
Weakness:
It took a few days to dial in the convergance. Not that it's hard, and I'm glad I can dial in 64 points on the TV, it's still a pain none the less. I guess this is an issue with most big screens. DO NOT BUY THIS TV IF YOU INTEND TO WATCH CABLE OR DISH with a standard NTSC signal; ahem... don't buy any 16:9 aspect tv for that matter. Though watchable, this tv is designed for HDTV and widescreen DVD's. You have to watch cab/sat using 480i streched mode. The center of the screen looks crisp, but looks oblong and blotchy on the sides. That being said; HDTV is absolutely stunning! I can't wait for it to be the standard transmission, so I can take advantage of what this set has to offer.. DVD's ROCK! I watched some of my old DVD's and it was like watching the movie for the first time. I started sampling, but found myself engulfed in the movies and watched them through. Plasma? Forgetaboutit! Save yourself 3 to 5k and get this TV; unless of course space is an issue. The picture on HDTV and DVD is just as good. |
