I am getting the 807 model in a couple of weeks. I was told by the salesman the new model will have the Platinum Series lenses. I hope it does. Do any of you have the 807?

Strength:

Low price. Excellent DVD and HDTV satellite reception.

Weakness:

Poor analog (cable) reception

I have had my set for about 4 months now and must say I am quite pleased with it. I haven't had any problems to date.

Anamorphic DVDs are fabulous (having tuned the set with Video Essentials) with the picture being very film-like in a darkened room. Cable leaves a bit to be desired, however.

I also use a satellite feed which is good enough. The only problem here is the aspect ratio control (Zoom mode) crops too much of the picture. I am afraid to watch too much in the "regular" mode for fear of burn-in.

The thing that has irritated me the most, however, has been waiting for the Mits / Direct TV receiver combo. My prayers were answered 2 weeks ago, however with the announcement of the new EchoStar Model 6000 HDTV receiver, which I had read about in the most recent edition of Sound and Vision magazine. It is a Dish Network thing which will have you with 2 dishes pointing at 3 satellites...110, 119 and 61.5.

So, I switched satellite services and for the low price of $380.00 am now watching HDTV on the Dish Network (as opposed to $1200.00 bucks with the Mits / DirecTV setup). I watched "The Worlds Is Not Enough" on PPV HD the other night and the picture was fabulous. They (Dish Network) also have an 8 minute HDTV demo loop which is quite impressive. Showtime HD, HBO HD and the HD PPV offerings.

This receiver also upconverts the dish signal to 1080i which is nice. And, the aspect ratio control of this set-top receiver has a combo strech/zoom mode which finds a nice balance between croping and squeezing which allows watching the shows in 16 X 9 mode.

For fear of sounding like a EchoStar salesman, I must say that this TV is very nice for HDTV. I only wish there was more original HDTV programming.

I am tickled with my Mits widescreen set.
