Strength:

Great picture quality.

Weakness:

Screen protecter

Just got this unit and have loved it. The quality of the picture is outstanding. With digital cable or DVD's it is so life like. I took off the screen protector since my room has alot of windows and the glare was to much to watch it utntil dark. Now threre is no glare and it did not reduce the picture quality.I did alot of side by side comparisons and found the Elite to be a better unit. The price is higher but worth it. 16:9 is the only way to go.

Strength:

Clear, sharp, bright picture.

Weakness:

$$$$

What can I say. This is a great Television with one of the best pictures available. A little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for with this set. I have seen it in several stores next to units that were supposed to be better - no way any of them compare. This set blows away the competition in the same price range.

Love the fact that it can be upgraded to a digital tuner when digital broadcast is fianlly available.

Let me take you to 1985 I wanted A big screen so much I look and look but all of them were so bad. It didn’t matter the price, the big screen was far from good, So I lived with a 35 in. tube for 15 years upgrading as I went. Then a giant break thou the 36 in. big deal. Over the years the rear projection TV got better but I still preferred the tube, then the HD TV comes out and rear projections takes a giant leap. The 610 is exceptional TV it displays analog sources better than a tube and all HDTVS I have seen. The DVD and HD sources are absolutely the finest images I have ever seen anywhere, hook up to a pioneer elite dv-37 an anamorphic dvd looks so film like you might sh*t your self, it is that good. Non anamorphic dvd can look almost as good thanks to the 610’S exceptional line doubler, The glossy black cabinet is a thing of beauty, and all the little things are justed as good like, the 72-point convergence system, color decoder, picture adjustments are separate for each input including color temp, that’s very important. The remote is nice; it can control a receiver and three other devices, by code and learning. The 610 also has direct accesses for all the inputs. I could go on and on this TV has just about everything. The 610 is absolutely one of the finest TVS (is the finest under $10.000) available today. A quick note the 620 is coming out I would sure take a look. You should be able to get the 610 for about $4500.00 to $5500.00 and if the 620 is close to that the 620 is probably the way to go. I have not seen it so I can’t say for sure, but I can say, if it is better than the 610 GET IT GET IT GET IT……….. P.S. should you wait to see what’s happening with HD broadcasted? If you did that you would never get a HDTV I think it will all work out in the mix meanwhile enjoy TV DVDs HD what’s available to there fullest I hope this helped you JOHN

Weakness:

Poor Warranty

Overpriced Hype! No ones talking about that white spot in the middle of the set when the picture goes black between scenes. What about that blue push in the set? No one's talking about that either....DO YOUR HOMEWORK PEOPLE. The price is so high because the word got out that Pioneer sets had a decent picture and the price went sky high! But I see too many edge lines and the picture is so dark that the blacks run together with little to no adjustment! That's why you think the picture looks better because it's sooooo dark.

Strength:

Picture quality. Both detail and color are superb. DVDs played through a progressive scan DVD player (I've got an Toshiba SD9200-HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)look easily as good as High-Def sources. (Usually BETTER!) Sound quality is UNBELIEVABLE. Functions incredibly well as a center channel speaker.

Weakness:

My only complaint is the CINEMA WIDE Mode squashes the image slightly. The only modes that offer the correct geometric proportions are the 4:3 mode and the Zoom mode.

Absolutely the best TV on the market today. I am EXTREMELY PICKY and after taking this beast through it's paces, I'm TOTALLY SATISFIED. The internal speakers are switchable via the remote by internal software to be used as your Center Channel or internally. ZERO scan lines visible. I also want to thank AUTHENTIC HOME THEATER. Their price, customer service, delivery and set-up were superb. I got a screaming deal on this TV. $4575.00 plus $350.00 shipping and in home delivery on THE SECOND FLOOR!

Strength:

The set uses a mini-Farjouda line doubler--and it shows: The picture is superb. This is the only RPTV out there that makes cable/antenna TV look descent.

Weakness:

Nothing

Awesome TV--The Line Doubler is definitely the best in it's class. Unlike other sets, like the Toshiba 56H80, you don't need a progressive scan DVD player with the 610 because again--THE LINE DOUBLER IS AWESOME

Playing computer games via the VGA input is cool--(just make sure you know what you're doing before trying it, though)

Really easy to Set-Up with the 72-point convergence

Make sure you turn down contrast and sharpness and turn off SVM and FLESH-TONE

Similar Products Used:

Toshiba 56H80---although the 56H80 is much cheaper, you have to take many things into account.

The Toshiba 56H80:
-Has an inferior line doubler (ie needs a progressive DVD player, which cost >$1000)
-Has no VGA/RGB input--You have to use a transcoder on STB's and computer VGA outputs--this'll cost you another $130 and degrade video quality!!
-Has NO (!!) upgrade slot--With the advent of DVI and 5c/Firewire you will be forced to watch HDTV at downgraded to 480i--which will then utilize the inferior line doubler--In other words, you may be throwing away $3500 by buying a Toshiba

....But this is my opinion---BUY THE ELITE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

picture is very clean and colors are very accurate

Weakness:

screen protector produces too much glare

Very nice picture, great definition, price is high, installation difficulties, screen protector produces glare:
I love the TV, but I have had problems with a broad line vertically on the right quarter of the screen and the left end. At night is sometimes distorts the colors. The retailer has looked at it and felt it was the cables...all new and digital, Pioneer sent someone out and said it was the Television they thought and the retailer should adjust and setup again. I think it is from the Pioneer Digital amplifier and switching unit. When removed away from the amp., it seems to go away, then when placed back in the theater enclosure it is there again.
At this point for the price I am disappointed to have this problem with no apparent resolution
