Strength:

Vivid color. Makes kids cartoons look like HDTV.

Weakness:

Crane needed to remove it from the box. Remote doesn't feel right -- seems cheap. I had hoped the front firing speakers would be a bit stronger, for they come across as very thin. The bass is almost non-existant.

Bought a unit that had been returned (hence the low cost). Replaced a 14 year old Mitsubishi 26" that was top of the line during Reagan's presidency.

I relied heavily on the reviews posted here and could not be more pleased. The picture and color is so powerful (compared to the old TV) that it was almost too bright; I am learning to live with it. My 2-yr old even noticed the difference during an episode of Barney.

Many have commmented that the "theatre" mode is what they leave it set to. I find this mode to be a bit too dark (whites look yellow) for regular TV viewing, sports in particular.

I have not hooked up the DVD yet, but everyone else sems to be extremely pleased with their results, so I am sure I will be to.

You cannot go wrong with this one. It's a winner.

Strength:

Color, picture clarity, look, price

Weakness:

Setup menu is behind Sony, remote control can be better.

Incredible picture, color, price.

Based on the infomation I received from this site and after comparing to different models from Toshiba: 27AF41, 27AF61, 32AF41, 32AF61, Philips: 27RF50S, 32PT81S, Sony: KV27FS13, KV27FV17, KV32FS13, KV32FV27 --the JVC AV27F802 and AV32F802 are the best buys. JVC also has better warranty than Sony 1 year versus 3 months.
I bought the AV27F802 3 months ago for my mother in-law as a gift at Sears at the internet matched price of $649.99. Both my mom and dad in-law like the TV. Then recently my Dad in-law 's 6 years old 32" Sony TV gave up on him; he decided to buy AV32F802 for the replacement because he like quality of the model AV27F802. My dad in-law paid for his at an incredible internet matched price at Sears of $835.00. I could not believe they discounted that much! That is $264 off from the regular price and $364 lower than the comparable Sony model KV32FV27.
Personally, I think the picture on AV27F802 is just a little bit better than on the AV32F802 because the picture seems to be a litte bit more focus on smaller screen. The colors on both JVC AV27F802 and AV32F802 are more natural than on competive models. Both models are winners and highly recommended...

Strength:

Picture quality, inputs, price.

Weakness:

Not HDTV...but what do you expect for the price? No 16:9 mode.

A few months ago I purchased a 27 inch Sony WEGA, but there was a problem with the coil and when wacthing in widescreen the left side was at least an inch higher than the right. I immediately brought the tv back to sears (they match internet prices up to a certain percentage), but they didn't have another model, so I decided to go with the slightly cheaper JVC model, which they had in stock. I can't tell you how pleased I am with the results. Aside from the fact that the JVC had a correctly tuned coil, the picture quality was still far better than the sony. I've yet to notice any scan lines, something that bothered me in the WEGA. DVD's are absolutely pristine, and the tv makes sports programs look like they are occurring in my living room. The sound is decent, probably slightly less appealing than the sony, but JVC's BBE surround feature provides decent faux-surround, and I mute the tv when I watch most programs anyway. The array of inputs the JVC offers is also fabulous, and I'm not going to bother discussing them all as everyone else who has reviewed the tv has already done so. The only weaknesses I can find are that it's not HDTV, which is something no who reviews this model shoudl complain about, first of all because of the price, and second because anyone who wastes their money on a 27 inch HDTV right now is out of their mind...the other weakness is that there is no 16:9 mode, which makes watching my widescreen dvds slightly more annoying. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an amazing television for a small to mid-sized space.

Strength:

component inputs x2, svhs x2,great 3D y/c filter, theather movie setting and.. great picture

Weakness:

remote, comparsing to a remote that i had with also JVC AV32985, this one is useless, very hard to use, stand that came with it,would not accomodate my components, so i had to buy another one;

This is not a lie :

I had all 3 tv's ( Sony,Panasonic, JVC) lined up @ the store, all fed with the same signal:
- Sony, picture to redish in every setting, and the only Sony that doesn't have that issue is XBR (not in the same class, though )
- Panasonic, picture too blue in every setting ( you can't change it )is not even close to the options & features on JVC.
- JVC,picture detailed, deep, colors are realistic, movie setting is very balanced ( someone said that movie setting is calibrated to a NTSC standard, $300 option at some HT dealers),start up menu is great, TV has tons of inputs & features, housing finish is good; Those should be a reasons for someone to buy TV, I guess...
Friend of mine who has Sony WEGA 27fv16( i think ) for almost a year, couldn't stop playing with my TV and forced me to play some of my DVD's in all TV's settings.
As per his humph's and hmh's I know that his Tv is for sale now...
Aside remote that I am not a fan of, TV stand that I wasn't able to use, I highly recommend this TV as base for serious home theater in a small space.

If you can't afford this JVC,I would suggest to go with ZENITH( ??!!). It looks same as the TV's mentioned above,
end finish is plastic ( read: CHEAP), has good picture, lots of inputs and it is valued priced...

Strength:

Incredible color
crisp detail, no distortion
jet blacks, no ghosting
fantastic tuner. standard cable on this TV looks better than Digital services I have seen running on other 'good' TVs.
Decent sound, but not great
Tons of inputs. Great for dvd + satelite configurations.

Weakness:

The remote isn't very intuitive
no 16:9 features
Great TV, but expensive for a 27 incher

I went to the store fully intending to buy the 32 inch JVC D-series set, after much research.

I got to the store and I got the opportunity to see the D series, the Wega, a Gaoo and a Tau side-by-side running cable and a DVD through them.

I immediately noticed that I preferred the JVC D series picture over the Wega for watching cable TV. With DVD viewing I would give the edge to the Wega over the D Series.

Watching cable, I was convinced that the D series smoked the Wega for watching cable. Then I saw a Gaoo and it was beautiful in comparison to the D-Series. Finally, I saw a Tau and was shocked at how much better it was at watching Cable than the JVC D-Series and the Wega. There was really no comparison.

Finally, I noticed what I thought was a smaller Wega and the vibrancy of the color shocked me. Then I noticed it was an I'Art. I then compared them all using the same cable feed, and the same DVD player (not even a good one, the Panasonic 5 dvd changer). Head and shoulders above was the I'Art. Beautiful color, very crisp lines and no distorition that I could see.

I was a litle disapointed to find out that there were no 16:9 features at all, but the picture was so compelling that I actually bought the I'Art 27 inch over a Tau 32". It was that convincing.

The kicker was noticing that the dvd playback was running on S-Video and not component cabling.

I've had the set for nearly 3 months and I have been thoroughly impressed. Component DVD must be seen on this set. Truly awesome.

Weakness:

Not much, the only gripes I have is lack of channel labels and not having channel favorites list

I strongly recommend this TV, It has stunning picture quality.

I had set my mind for Sony Wega, Which I bought and used for a week, I had to take it back, because of an awful whining noise coming from its circuits.

the only gripes I have is:
1)lack of 16:9 enhanced mode of Sony
2)lack of channel labels
3)not having channel favorites list -for late nite, channel surfing, couch potato sessions of mine:)-

but still, it beats Sony Hands down on picture quality, although user interface and some minor details of Sony is better.

Strength:

Excellent picture quality, video inputs, decent speakers, a real Sony better.

Weakness:

On screen menu controls, and poor location of manual controls.

I have owned a Sony 25" XBR Digital, yes that's right digital, for over 15 years. I found that cups of water or just simple cleaning created wear from my unit's silver finish. The plastic used was for all models were the some, but the paint changed on the side panels (I thing Sony offerd 4 side panel colors that year). I wished that Sony could have used a simular paint that would match the plactic, because it looks so cheap to see the finish wear away. My Second problem with the Sony was how the dust collected on the top vents. As you all know, dust is not your friend. JVC I-Art doesn't have a ribbed vented upper case for the Tube area, that's a good thing. This benifit also makes it easyer to clean. Most people don't think about how dust effects the longjevitity of a TV.

When it come to built-in sound, JVC leads the pack. Sony has never impressed me with there audio line. If you don't believe me then find a JVC boom box and one manufactored by
Sony. Note: 3 of my friends bought XBR's and all of the speakers died within 5 years. Self-powered PC speaker are a better replacement.

The gospel according to Sony sounds like Macintosh to me. If you like to buy a TV without denomination then JVC is a good choice, my other best bet is Samsung.

Strength:

Killer picture, love that PIP dual tuner setup, sweet amount of inputs.

Weakness:

The remote some of the function buttons are hard to use. The sound is (in hypersound)is hissy when there is quiet sections of viewing (cable selections).

Originally we were going to purchase the Sony Vega, but during the course of looking we came across the JVC (which was sitting right next to the Sony). Point for point the JVC eclipsed the Sony. The picture is KILLER! However, I had problems with the remote IR sensor on the set and we had to exchange the TV. I think the only feature that the Sony had over the JVC is the automatic level control (keeps those commercials from blasting you). All in all I give this set 5 stars!
