Strength:

Great Picture if you get a good one

Weakness:

Poor quality control

The first one was great, much better than any Wega I have seen. Perfect convergence and excellent geometry. However it lasted two hours before the Video 4 input failed. The second one had unacceptable pincushion distortion on the left side. The third one must have had a dead degauser, the lower half of the picture was purple and there were green splotches in the lower corners.

Strength:

Excellent picture quality, video inputs, decent speakers, build quality, easy setup, viewing modes, flat-screen

Weakness:

Weighs 101lbs.

When it was time to purchase a new TV, I decided it was time for a flat-screen. I did the research, and found out that this JVC is practically the best 27" TV that you can possibly get for the money. So I went up to Sears, and there it was, sitting there in its glory, right next to the Sony WEGA of the same size and price. I compared the two, and clearly could see no differences between them. I read about how WEGAs can have problems, like visible scan lines and other things, so me getting one wasnt intended. The JVC had more inputs than the WEGA, 2 sets of Component video, 1 more than what the WEGA offered. With the extended warranty purchased I took my JVC home.
Now I must say, the TV at Sears visual looked better than mine, which is because the cable is split amongst 2 other TVs, so I dont have a direct feed. So there was dot crawl on the TV, but not as bad. The manual was very useful, and the menu aswell.
The JVC has 3 different viewing options for your pleasure. The Theatre, which darkens the picture a little bit, the Standard, which In my opinion looks the best, and the Choice, which is the one where you set the colors. The Standard one seems to make the picture more "real" and colorful. It adds more blue while the others add more green.
After all done, I connected everything to the TV that I wanted to be connected. First and foremost, the PlayStation 2 with component cable. Then I connected my 200W sound system to the TV using the variable outputs that the TV offers. Excellent sound. When playing my PS2, the games looked way better than before. Everything was clear and crystal, words were better and more sharpened. DVD movies were just the same, very vibrant.
Im glad I made this purchase, very worthwhile for my viewing needs, until HDTV becomes the standard. Anyone shopping for a TV in this range, this one is to be considered. Another option you may want to look at is the Panasonic Tau 27SX10, a worthy foe for the JVC, nice TV aswell.

Strength:

The picture is great.
I don't have cable but for most stations, you wouldn't know. The tuner is great.
I like the remote. Easy to use without 1000 buttons.
Flat tube reduces most of the glare.
Good sound if you adjust it.

Weakness:

You can always wish for a better picture when you spend this kind of money. The picture has a little more contrast than I would like but you can't duplicate the "Theater" setting with the controls to compensate for it.

Very nice set. I played with the controls for some time before just using the "Theater" setting. The colors are great. So many compare this set to the Sony Wega... the store I got this at had such poor signals feeding the TV's that you couldn't tell any difference. I went with this one becuase it has a more advanced comb filter and the tuner was highly rated by another reviewer. I am pleased with my choice.

Strength:

Nice design, sharp picture.

Weakness:

Brightness isn't uniform across the screen. White is pinkish. Colors are not natural.
Weak bass sound.

I was quite disappointed when I bought the JVC. I had a Panasonic 27 inch model before, a very simple and inexpensive model with only simple features. But even though the JVC picture was clearly sharper, I could never get the same natural looking colors as on the Panasonic. It has very vivid colors if you just watch a picture with large areas of unfiform color, but for example more complex tones, like skin tones, don't look natural even after fiddling with all the adjustments incl. tint. ALso, even though the picture is clearly sharper than the Panasonic, it has more noise in it, but perhaps this is just not visible in the Panasonic due the slightly blurrer picture. Overall, I am disappointed that this TV can barely match up with a 2 yo. Pansonic which only cost half the price.
Also, I don't see the point of the flat picture tube. It leads to non-uniform brightness. If you look at a screen with just white, it is very obvious that the inner parts are much brighter than the outter parts, due to the increased length the beam has to travel. Now, JVC claims to have some circuitry to compensate for this but it obviously doesn't work as expected. In addition, the tube is recessed about 1/2 inch behind some glas panel, so if you view it from the side, sometimes the ouside panel slightly overlaps the tube (and picture). Furthermore, I was under the impression that a 27" flat tube would effectively have a slightly larger size compared to a slightly round one (because the edges are not all the way up). Wrong again, the JVC only has 26.5 inches visible picture vs. the Pansonics 26.75 inch. Disappointing.
ANd one last thing, JVC advertises a high speed channel changing tuner with 5 stations per second. Mine is more like 2 per second which is much much slower than the old Panasonic and if you want to change quickly, it doesn't even show the picture anymore, it just mutes it out cause it can't change as fast. Maybe they meant, they can display the "channel number" 5 per second but not the actual picture of the channel. Very funny.
So, next time, I go and buy a Panasonic again. They seem to be one of the best. At least their picture looks very natural (must be the because of the Panablack picture tube).

Strength:

Vivid colors, crisp text, very stylish, great sound, nice remote, lots of useful features like PIP, automically sets your time if your broadcast station allows it.

Weakness:

The box did not have handles on it, this TV is pretty heavy, the price is too high for a 27-inch, sound could be better, overall better than the equivalent Sony 27-inch.

Well, after carrying this bad boy downstairs in my house, I was rather disappointed that JVC did not have handles on its box. Are they nuts? The box is huge! I think JVC did it on purpose so that we can build up our fustration and to give us strength?

Once out of the box, I immediately fell in love with the overall design of the TV. It matches my Sony silver DVD player respectivitely. I also like the fact that the remote was able to co-exist with my DVD system. The picture quality on this TV is EXCELLENT! The colors are very natural, I thought the factory was alittle too red, but adjusting and changing that is simple with the easy on screen menu. I thought that the Sony's menu was more advanced however. First thing I did was plugged in my DVD player to the S-Video port on my TV. Wish I had a component DVD player though. Anyways, the quality was very very good. The text on the screen was very sharp and clear. The colors were fantastic, it brought you in the movie. Who cares for that overhyped 16:9 compression on the Sony's when JVC added a more advanced 4MEGA 10 bit 3D comb filter. The tuner on this JVC was also unmatched. It is very good, TV broadcast is sharp and very watchable. DVD is where this TV shines, I love it! The connections on the back of the TV is expandable with 2 sets of components for future usage, 2 S-Video, and sets of composites. This was an expensive purchase, but I think I made the right choice. The back of my TV has a date of January 2001, Sony's has dates of November 2000. So the JVC is very well the more advanced and newer technological superior TV. The remote is also pretty easy to find what you want, I like the nightlight on the volume and channel buttons. This was my very first JVC product purchase, and with an impression like this, it will not be my last. I like Sony's but sometimes I feel you buy more for the name than the "quality." It's time for a change...

Strength:

Vivid Picture, Correct Geometry and Two Component Video Inputs

Weakness:

Weight: This is one heavy TV

I have been in the market for a new TV for some time now and I've done a lot of research. I purchased a Sony Wega KV-27FS12 and had to return it do a humming noise coming from the TV and the picture geometry was off. I went to a local Sears to see a side by side comparison of the WEGA and JVC's I'Art. The JVC had a sharper picture quality and the geometry seemed to be correct. I searched the internet and found the lowest price and best customer service oriented website and purchased the I'Art.

I couldn't be more pleased. The geometry is perfect and the picture is vivid and the 3D 4 megabit comb filter looks as good as an S-video connection. Furthermore, the I'Art has 4 video inputs and two of them are Component Video and one is S-Video. It sound quality is good but not the best. However, I don't use the TV for sound. I have a Harman/Kardon AVR 510 Reciever that sound awesome. Please read my review of the AVR 510. I purchase the TV and Receiver the same week.

I Highly recommend the JVC's I'Art TV. It is the best picture quality you can get without going High Definition or getting a TV that upconverts 480i to High Definition. I suggest not getting a High Definition because the technology continues to improve and the price will be a lot lower by 2006. One last Thing, the TV I purchased had a manufactoring date of February 2001. How new can you get!!!
