Strength:
inputs, picture, you know these by now
Weakness:
remote I took the plunge with a nice sale at J&R last weekend and I am very impressed. The picture is fantastic. I used Video Essentials and have looked carefully for the discolorations and have not seen them. Dreamcast and DVD both look fantastic and the comb filter has done a good job of cleaning up our "murky" NYC cable reception. Similar Products Used: JVC, Sony and RCA 27"s |

Great Picture, Black Blacks, plenty of inputs, cheapest with component video
Weakness:
pink/green/pink/green bands some bow tie weakness I got this TV as a supplement to my 20" because I had a DVD player with component outputs and wanted a better picture than the colored snowed one my hitachi provided (give it a break its about 20 years old). I got it home and turned out the lights to watch a dvd. When I turned it on the first thing I noticed were the bands. Unfortunately I was looking for imperfections in the TV because I read about so many of them on this site. Well I found what I was looking for. The bands aren't blantably noticeable but the fact that I know where they are now is enough that I catch myself looking for them. But as for that they're hard to see. Had a tech do a full test on the tv and the problem really isn't correctable. But he showed me an RGB test, full screen red then green and then blue and the colors were even so it doesn't affect the picture but its still there. I only really notice it when I have my room completely dark, which i typically do when watching a movie, and the screen is blank or theres a fairly dark scene in the movie (lots of black like the stars scene in contact). But watching the set in a dark room was hurting my eyes so I ve started shineing a light on the walls behind the tv and this seems to help. Excellent Picture,Good Sound,A/V inputs in the front,S-Video and Component Input in the back for DVD players.
Weakness:
None This television is a very good choice. It has wonderful picture quality and if you are thinking about getting a DVD player, this is definitely a GREAT T.V., because in the back, it has component and S-video inputs. It is a FACT, not an opinion, that this TV has better picture quality than the 27 inch Sony and Toshiba televisions out on display that YOU have viewed(aside from the Sony WEGAS). If you are gonna purchase a 27 inch television and you are trying to figure out which television is the best between the Sony's, Toshiba's, JVC's, and Panasonic, pick the Panasonic. The Panasonic is the correct purchase. Do not let anybody tell you differently at the stores you go to. I especially hated it when I asked this one so called "tv specialist" (just to test him) the features the television has, and which one is better overall, he said, "well Sony is a good brand," What an educated answer huh?!!? Picture Quality (compared to other CRT models).
Weakness:
Volume adjustment My only complaint is the volume adjustment is too sensitive. When I move the volume up or down one notch, the change should not be so dramatic. Because of this, there are times it is difficult find a comfortable listening level. Similar Products Used: Sanyo 20" |

Compact, sleek design. Excellent contrast and detail on picture. East to use remote. I/O for various hookups is great.
Weakness:
As received picture setup is way too bright Looked at the Toshiba 27A40, Sony 27S42, Sony Wega, Phillips, anything under $600, but the combination of price, picture quality, and number and type of inputs made this an easy choice in the end. Hookup was easy and after turning down brightness, contrast, and color 50% it is a beautiful picture. Sounds OK too. Great picture, component & S input, stereo headphone jack, remote also control DVD, save you a pair of battery. Just fit in the back of my station wagon. The screen is flat enough. I'm not a pure flat fan.
Weakness:
Big and heavy, I'm worrying how to move it when I graduate. I sold my old 19" Sanyo and got this one, those old cheap models don't have A/V inputs to fit my new panasonic DVD, couldn't be happier, everything just perfect, now VCR looks like crap, especially when the tape is old. The DVD I rent has many scratches however never a single glitch happened, which is the problem for computer based DVD machine. I regret didn't get it earlier in last holiday season, probably could have saved some $$$. Similar Products Used: Compared many in store, picture quality slightly better. If you don't compare them side by side, all are quite good actually. |

a defect I have not seen mentioned yet I got this model TV for Christmas and right off the bat noticed some geometry problems with it (most notably the pincushion being way off). I figured they could be adjusted out in the service menu so it really wasn't a big deal to me. Well the more I watched the TV, the more I noticed something else wasn't quite right. There were four static vertical bands of about 5 inches in width that were off-color. These bands alternated from green to pink to green to pink across the entire width of the screen, and ran up and down the entire length. The discoloration was very noticeable when switching to a video input with no incoming signal (ie: blank black screen), became even more noticeable when increasing the brightness level, and also came through when viewing an image (ie: any part of the image that was supposed to be black had a green or pink tint to it). Well this on top of the geometry problems convinced me the TV should go back for an exchange. So I exchanged the TV today for another of the same model, and low and behold, it has the same problems. The geometry problems I was expecting, I don't think you can buy a new TV without them. But it also has the exact same discoloration problem. Band for band, color for color, it's virtually identical to the old one (no, there are no external speakers around it). I'm not sure yet If I am going to have this one fixed under warranty (if possible), exchange it for yet another one, or go with another model altogether. Feature-wise and price-wise this is exactly the TV I want right now, but with the condition I am getting these TV's in and the hassle of already returning one I can't give it a very high overall rating.
