Strength:

Colour is great! Size is amazing. Remote isn't bad.

Weakness:

Took a while for the colours to settle down.

The colours looked really saturated on first set up. Once the TV had some burn in time and I tweaked the settings, the picture was amazing! DVD's look great, and cable isn't that bad (although there are a few channels that look bad.)
Got the set on sale. Great deal. (price in Can. Dollars inc. tax.)

Strength:

picture (mostly)

Weakness:

no way to skip to particular input

Generally a good set with a good picture.

VERY frustratingly is that there appears no way to go to a specific input. This eliminates the ability to have the set automatically with a push of a single key. IE. in a sophisticated home theater setup (presumably the target for this set) there is no way to simplify things for the casual user (e.g. the rest of the family, baby sitters, etc.).

I'm considering getting an iScan Pro line doubler just for it's automatic input switching and converting all the inputs into component video. This is really unfortunate since this set already has a line doubler built in.

Strength:

Yeah

Weakness:

Each video source should have its own color settings but it doesn't have to switch setting back everytime I use a different device.

This is just a follow up to my earlier review. My television is still running great I like it more each day, but I hate the remote more each day. I like most of the owners of this television had the same complaints until I discovered the Richard Gray's Power Company.

If you want a sharper and more dimensional picture on your tau get a Richard Gray's Power Company thing-a-ma-jig. Your television picture quality will definately upgrade. Your Surround sound system will also sound really sharp as well.

Strength:

Nice progressive image with dvd

Weakness:

Red push.......horrible geometric lines with text......crappy sounding speakers and all yours for $1799

First off,I really wanted to like this TV. Thats why I went through 3 of them before giving up on it for the reasons stated above in "weaknesses". BEWARE: Panasonic is aware of these issues and is releasing the 32HX41 model as you read this to address the issues with their "40" series. For the price of this set and with all the issues with quality I cannot recommend this TV to anyone.

Strength:

HDTV ready. Even viewing normal cable broadcasts look better.

Weakness:

See below.

I just bought the 32HX40 yesterday. When first viewing the digital cable, I noticed that all the images on the farthest left 4" of the screen were all bending up to the top. The picture on the right was smooth and even.
Best way to see this is the Weather Channel or news broadcast. You can see that a horizontal image would be straight moving from the right, but the left 4" of the image would bend upwards to the top left corner of the TV.
(I will be calling Panasonic about this today.)
Hooked up Sony 570D DVD player and saw the same thing. When I bought the TV, I also got the Pioneer DV-434 progressive scan player. I hooked the Pioneer up to it and it still did it. I was switching between progressive and interlaced output on the DV-434 and the picture was alot clearer when haveing it outputed at 480i ad having the TV turn it into 480p. When I turned on the progressive on the dvd, the picture became blured and fuzzy. I adjusted the sharpenss, but this didn't help. I guess this means that
this TV does a better job of line doubling than the Pioneer dvd player? I haven't had enough time yet to see if theres much difference in the picture between the Pioneer and the Sony dvd both outputing at 480i.

Things I like: All video is much better on this than any other 32-36" that I have looked at, due to the fact that it's all upconverted to 480p.

Things to hate: 1)The geometric problem that I described above. 2)The remote is ok, but still alot better than the remote with the Pioneer dvd. 3)Theres no way to tell the TV to "skip" all the other video inputs. There are
so many on this set that it becomes annoying to have to press "TV/Video" five times to get to the source that you need. 4)There is also no way to have it remember different video adjustments for each of the inputs. When
watching dvd, I need to turn the red up more than cable brodcast. When I then switch to the coax or s-video input from the cable box, everthing looks like it
has a sunburn, and the red has to be re-adjusted.

In the end I think this is a good set, but adding a video input "skip", tilt correction controll, and the ability for it to save different video setings for each input would make this TV more appealing.

Strength:

Set looks good, lots of features for the price- fits in wall units with "small" size for 32"

Weakness:

"pixellated"= blocky, picture- told by Panasonic that it really needs High Definition signal

I dont know. Also ined some help. I want to like this TV but can't-yet. The picture is not only "soft" it is "pixellated" (is that a word?). I have Directtv, my signal is at 91 and especially in Sports with smaller player- the picture looks "blocky" and like the people are made up of pixels. My old Sony shows the images clear. I called Panasonic and they said that was caused by the Progressive scane doubler. And you cant turn it off (except in the "game" mode and it really did not help much. I was told that it really needs a High Def signal and that even digital signals may still show these "pixels". I have tried EVERY setting- and yes movies look great - albeit a bit small when using component video input and widescreen format.
Do any of you have this same "problem"? Movies and closeups look great- sports and smaller images suck real bad. I know that I am not the only one with these isues with scan doubled flat screen TV's. I really want to get a "normal
32" TV and ut this expensive thing in the kids room- they usually watch cartoons and they look great on this TV.Would love some advice on what I can do to get a clear "non pixellated" picture.
Thanks

Strength:

HDTV ready, flat screen, price

Weakness:

Poor manual, weak remote

Only had this tv a couple of days, but it seems to be the best value HDTV on the market. Picture looks great, especially at 480p with my progressive-scan DVD player. For the price, there isn't anything else out there that can touch this.

I needed a new tv and was actually considering just buying a high-end regular tv (non-HDTV) and waiting until HDTV prices came down more. However, when I compared this to the non-HDTV Sony KV-32FS12, I found that I could pay a few hunderd bucks more and get a comparable picture (I actually like the Panasonic better) AND be HDTV ready AND use my progressive-scan DVD.

I'm very happy with this purchase so far.

Strength:

picture, color, price, and design

Weakness:

sound, panasonic service, and need picture adjustment out of the box.

Picture seems softer then the sony model which makes it more enjoyable to watch dvd's then the way to crisp look of the sony which make movies look like they were shot on a camacorder. The weight of the panasonic is about 50+ pounds lighter then the sony model so when you need to move this machine you wont have to hire movers to move it. Ugly remote for the price you paid for the tv and very loud and scary sound occurs when turning on the television almost sound like the tv is about to explode.

Strength:

Great Picture and Sound,Built Solid, good weight, good looking not overwhelming, dvd is perfect my wife likes it.

Weakness:

Ugly remote, Ugly onscreen menu, manual was written by chimps, needs adjusting (leans toward red hue).

This is a great television. Great picture quality needs some adjustment though. You can run tv all day and it doesn't get hot. The remote is good, but it's ugly, and so is the on screen control panel. The manual as almost useless. Dvd's are amazing. You can fit this tv in your wall unit.

If you are looking for a great picture quality and substantial features this is the television for you.

Geometric Issues

This is to update my previous review on 7/27/2001.

The Circuit City repair guy showed up to have a look at the "geometric" (Geomagnetic) issues and said the "tilt" problem could be fixed by installing am electromagnetic wire assembly behind the picture tube. He had to special order this part and it was installed 4 weeks later. Did it fix the problem? Well, kind of, but not to my satisfaction. Although the Geomagnetic feature on this TV is supposed to be used for correcting discoloration, it can also be used as a tilt feature.

As for the horizontal "pixel wave" in the lower left corner, there is no fix. It was very annoying to the point that I told Circuit City to swap out my TV. Although they didn't have any CT-32HX40 models left (it's out of stock now) they agreed to replace it (an even exchange) with a CT-32HX41 model. This newer model is the exact same TV with a different remote and costs about $200-300 more.... Go figure. It was delivered today and has no "pixel wave" in the lower left corner, although I had to set the Geomagnetic feature to "-5" to remove some screen tilt.

I'm convinced that many of the geometry-related problems are the result of Flat Screen technology. All Flat Screen TVs and computer monitors I've seen almost always display some type of geometry-related issue, from crooked lines to excessive tilt to "pixel waves". Hopefully they will get better in the years to come. My main concern at this point is getting an HDTV converter box so I can really see what this thing is capable of!!!
