Strength:
Awesome sound, Excellent color and resolution, ultra flat screen, Overall design.
Weakness:
Very heavy, power plug placement Wow! This is my first TV and it's a damn good one. There is absolutely no better value in it's class- Samsung is so underrated. The sound quality is outstanding. I connected my Sega Dreamcast and color reproduction was excellent- I think the color is more natural than the Sony 27" Wega. The inch makes a difference- not dramatic though. Broadcast quality is outstanding. Exterior design is very cool. I have been comparing sets from Panasonic, JVC, Sony, and Toshiba for months- nothing comes close. Samsung is the sleeper company of the new millennium. One final note- it seems my Samsung TXF2899 was manufactured May 2000. It may not be discontinued but J&R may be the exclusive dealer. If that's the case and you are not located in NYC order it via www.jandr.com |

Strength:
Excellent Picture and sound
Weakness:
No component video input The best 27 inch television out there. Next flattest thing to Sony's Wega. I actually like it better than the Wegas. People who watch movies at my house really like the clean picture it produces. It is also good at simulated surround if you don't have stereo speakers. This TV's speakers pump out the best bass I've heard from a directview tv. |

Strength:
Bright color, sharp image, it looks real good, even better than a WEGA, extra inch´, near flat screen, PIP.
Weakness:
No auto volumen, not many inputs. Here in México some consumer electronics cost twice of what you paid in US. Similar Products Used: Sony WEGA |

Strength:
Audio & Screen Width
Weakness:
It's Heavy, if that's a weakness I shopped the market thoroughly for a TV Set to serve as a bridge until the flat wide screen digital TV market matures and prices settle down to earth...I figure a 5 year time frame when 2006 standards are well in place. Almost bought a Panasonic Tau 27", considered a 27" Sony Wega, however when I saw this model for $499, no tax, delivered free to the door, I jumped on it. First it was at least 20% in out of pocket cost less ($100) than going with a Tau or Wega and those others would not have delivered the wide screen or incredible audio. Strength:
Picture quality, incomparable audio, 28" screen better for letterbox veiwing, plenty of AV connections, good price/value for me.
Weakness:
No one button access to Sleep timer, menu system is odd, hard to find I read about this TV about 2 years ago in Stereo review. At the time it seemed very interesting as an idea and the review was very favorable. Me being a die hard Sony fan could not fathom the idea of Samsung making a decent anything let alone a TV. I have been coveting a Sony Wega for the last year and finally decided to get a TV. After reviewing at J&R I realized that those things are really to expensive, I could by a 32" for the price of the 27" Wega. As I looked in the corner of the store I beheld the sight of the Samsung 2899. Size does matter. 1 inch really increases the viewing experience, in normal and widescreen viewing. Sound quality is uncomparable in a TV, 30 watts, 6 speakers. Find that on the Wega. Picture quality is beautiful, I have to watch all my Dvd's over because I never really saw them the way they were meant to be seen with that cheap 36" RCA I waS using. The screen is very flat with little perefiferal reflection. The controls take a little getting used to but are very accurate using numerical scales. The remote did not seem to control my vcr when I tried to program it but it works just fine. The clock seems to need resetting every time I turn off the Tv, big deal. I need to check the manual. I got it for a steal under $500. One major caveat, I believe Samsung has canceled this beautiful TV. If you can find one, buy it now. I liked the 2889 also but they were gone. I am well pleased. Strength:
Sound is very good.
Weakness:
Universal Remote doesn't have DVD button. I think this TV is a good alternative to SONY Wega. It has all the features Wega has, the screen is not as flat, though, - but I have no problem with that... |

Hey,first up,cool.Well,I have had this unit for 6 mos.and I love it.I use it in my home theater.I bought the 2899 in large store that has a wall of tv's.The Samsung actually grabs your eye from the others on the wall. Its extra inch gives it a more cinematic feel and its digital comb makes for amazing clarity and colour on DVD.I set it up using video essentials and the set came very close to perfectly set up out of the box.Sure it costs more than most 28' sets but, when you see this set you realize that this is no normal 28' tv.And what guy would'nt want an extra inch. |

Strength:
TV and picture size, quality picture (calibrated)
Weakness:
no component, picture very "cool" out of box I purchased this model to replace a 27 inch set, so I was limited to the size of the overall televsion. A friend and reviews from this site steered me to take a look at this television. Similar Products Used: ProScan 27" |

Strength:
Best color and sound in its class, extra width
Weakness:
None so far I had been reading about this particular TV for almost a year now (it is officially "discontinued"). Having given up on ever finding this TV, I bought a 27" Sony, which I returned because of poor quality control. Then I found out from the post below that outpost.com had it for 499.00 delivered to my home (thanks for the tip). I managed to order one, which I received about two weeks ago. Strength:
Extra inch, picture sharpness, price
Weakness:
Only 1 S-Video input I have been using this TV for about six months and it has a great picture. The extra inch of screen size really does make a difference. It also has a very good sound system, if you don't run it through your home theater system, like I do. Similar Products Used: Toshiba 27" |
