Strength:

Very nice menu.

Weakness:

Pink lines on side of monitor. HEAVY!

This is an almost perfect set if were not for the annoying pink lines about an 1" off the sides of the screen. I had to return 2 of these and still had the same problem. It's a real shame becuase I swear by Sony however this product has really let me down.

Other than the pinkish lines on the side of the screen, there is nothing wrong with the set. If you can get one without this problem, consider yourself lucky!

I rated the 27FS12 2 stars becuase Sony really let me down this time with the quality of this unit.

Strength:

Picture, 16:9 enhanced, and looks

Weakness:

It's really heavy!! I think I pulled everything in my back setting this monster up.

Great tv. I wanted something that would kick major booty but didn't take up too much space, so I got this Sony WEGA. I an very happy with the tv and I haven't had any problems with pink lines or anything else. I an so glad I bought this set.

Strength:

Picture, Picture, Picture!! Component input and S-Video. Good looking TV.

Weakness:

Pretty heavy for a 27" tv but absolutely nothing else!

Just purchased this TV yesterday and I couldnt be more happy with it. DVD's with component video are stunning as I now finally have a picture to match my home theatre set-up. Reception with a satelite is also very good. This set has no hint of any geometry problems or "pink stripes" that some other people have had. I would definetely reccomend this tv to anybody who is in the market for a new one.

Strength:

Sleek look, vast array of imputs, easy menus, awesome picture, 16x9 enhancement, bright colors and solid blacks, superb quality.

Weakness:

The weight....it's heavy.

I was looking for a new TV and I was thinking about getting a Magnavox 27 inch for about $350. I had just bought a new DVD player and mini dolby digital sound system and I was looking for the most bang for my buck. I found it in this TV. For those of you who are having bad pictures, or defects...speak for yourselves. I have had ZERO problems with mine. Outstanding picture from my dvd player. I have it connected using component video cables and when used with 16x9 enhancement compression the picture looks absolutely amazing. With so many inputs it was easy for me to hook up all my stuff. As of now I have 2 DVD players, 1 VCR, Sony PSX, Sega Dreamcast, NES, Sega Genesis, and Super NES all hooked up to my Sony TV FLAWLESSLY. I highly suggest this tv to those of you not looking to spend big bucks on a high end HD TV. Excellent for the beginner videophile.

Strength:

Outstanding picture quality (especially DVD's in 16:9 anamorphic mode)

Weakness:

Too heavy; no automatic 16:9 detect nor single button press to get it into 16:9 (although I programmed a single macro key to do it in my Cinema 7 remote)

This is a great TV because of its great picture & 16:9 anamorphic squeeze capability. DVDs look fantastic. Got it for $570 at Best Buy.

Strength:

nice picture, ok rf resolution dvd looked ok nothing spectacular, the flat picture tube gave it a nice glareless look.

Weakness:

Very Very faulty design, Sony messed this years model up! Look closely when watching Saving Private Ryan and as the first wave passes over the landing boat pause it and enjoy some gigantic pink bars that extend from top to bottom! I loved the tv but for $600 I feel riped off! This amazing picture they boast has more flaws than most of the worlds knock off brands. A few new problems have been arising as I see now and again, just the other day one went black and white all of a sudden for no reason. And one of the best parts is the gigantic green dot that appears when you turn it off. People would say that I just had a bad one a lemon if you will, but the strange fact is I owned one and then a brand new one after that and it had the same problem! Sony please fix your product.

Sorry I feel for the cost I was cheated out of my money. I spent too much to have so many easly noticed flaws. I admit i have a high stardard but it was very easy to see. Speaking to a few people apparently it lacks power. Sony has said that it is the houses power dispersal that is causing the problem with the tv. Kinda funny they would say that, I get the same voltage and current as my neighbors and the place I bought it from it seems. So I guess that consumers power has a bit of a problem too then. My missunderstanding is that I was under the impression that products had to opperate within a standard voltage approx 110V-to-130 and I am getting enough power for my new TV has a great picture. I got all that same hookups that made the VEGA so great and I spent just over half as much. So I say sorry to VEGA and hi to TOSHIBA.

Thankyou
maybe some day the problem will be fixed,

Strength:

16:9 enhanced mode for DVDs; almost glare-free viewing

Weakness:

Mine has some drooping in the upper-right portion of the screen. Sears will replace the defective unit, though.

First of all, the big selling-points with these babies are legit. Let me explain:

1. 16:9 enhanced mode will compress all 480 scan lines into a letterbox area thereby increasing the resolution of your anamorphic DVDs. How noticable is this benefit? Well, in Apollo 13, some of the text on the monitors at mission control is actually legible whereas without the enhanced mode, some of that text isn't even identifiable as text!

2. Glare-free viewing. That's essentially accurate. The one issue I take with this is that from an odd angle (ie: going to the fridge for a sandwich during a football game) the glare from one of my side windows is worse. BUT, from the normal viewing positions in my living room, it is TOTALLY glare-free.

The downsides:

1. Cable doesn't look as good as it did on my cheapO RCA. No matter how much I calibrate the settings this holds true. Although certain channels which seem more noise-free than others look great. But if there's any noise or interference, it'll make it look rather weak.

Speaking of calibrating--if you don't calibrate your TV for optimal viewing with one of those special DVDs, you're making a big mistake! It DOES help!

2. My set has the drooping/sloping whatever you call it problem. Sears acknowledged that it should not do this and will replace it when they get more in.

So, do I recommend it? That depends. If you want DVDs to look their best, then yes absolutely. If you want cable to looks its best, then no. If you want both as I do, I'm not sure what to tell you except that I'm so impressed with the DVD capability that I guess I'll do my best to try to improve the cable situation or just live with it.

If you're a camcorder nut, I'd say the Wega is definately for you, though. The reason I say that is because my home flicks look better than ever on this baby. And some miniDV camcorders offer anamorphic modes...I can't wait to try that with the 16:9 enhanced mode--home movies will look like Spielberg epics!

I deduct a star from value and overall rating since cable reception looks funky and I have to have mine totally replaced for a minor flaw.

Strength:

Excellent color rendition, picture quality in both analog and digital video,

Weakness:

Weighs a ton, silver color only, remote is cluttery

I have both the Panasonic Tau 32HX40 and Sony 27FS12 (one for our home theater and the other in our bonus room). I love the picture quality of the Sony and it is just slightly weaker than the Panasonic (which has a superior quality picture overall (very vivid and defined colors)).

I haven't been disappointed by the Sony and had it calibrated and checked out within the first 30 days I had it. The repairman fixed a minor problem with geometry and color (so he said) but the picture has been beautiful ever since.

Sound is OK for this TV but we only use that for most channel surfing. I use a stereo system for TRUE audio listening with our DVDs or video game playing (sorry but the Panasonic 32HX40 rules in my house for superior video watching (or so the husband says!).

I would tell anyone to buy this TV if not the lower end KV-27S42 model (not as many connections, but has a very nice picture too for a good price). The Panasonic is my benchmark for most television viewing and if it wasn't for seeing what this TV can do then the Sony 27FS12 would be my overall favorite TV. Sony needs to come down on the price though and wisely replace the KV-27S** series.

Strength:

Picture,Picture Picture and ease of on screen menu. The flat screen gives almost no glare in a brightly lit room even when sitting on an angle.

Weakness:

The speakers could be better but when your hooking it up to surround sound who care's.And ok the weight but it really not that bad!

WOW! What a picture you won't believe your eye's.Very easy to set up DVD,VCR,and surround sound stereo to this with all the inputs Sony gives you.Everyone says it's heavy,(it is a hundred pounds) but once you see the picture you won't believe it, it's worth that little strain. This TV puts the other compition to shame,I compared the others in the store none came close.
