Strength:

Detail, component inputs, aspect ratio correction, flat screen.

Weakness:

Weight, looks, sound, remote.

I bought this unit instead of the Panasonic Tau. Being a music enthusiast but not much of a home theater fan, my limit for a new set was $600. Brought it home and hooked it up to a VCR and AT&T Digital Cable. Ouch. Like a fine audio system, this TV shows the inadequacy of components and signals fed to it. I immediately sold the VCR to a friend and ordered a DVD player. Taking another reviewer's advice, I plugged the TV into a Monster Cable power center, used some top notch coaxial cables, and tried cable again. Pretty big difference. Even on the second tier channels, the detail is amazing. And there are none of the yellow, pink, or green goobers on my TV like so many others have mentioned. Now I'm waiting for my pre-ordered version of Traffic to try out the DVD player. I'm expecting nothing short of greatness.

If the audio was better, the remote was better, and this unit didn't look so frunpy, I'd give it 5 stars regardless of price. Given that's it's $600 and less, it still gets all 5.

Strength:

Vivid Pictures, nice design, the closest you can get to high defintion without paying the high price.

Weakness:

Weak speakers, geometric errors, unit is heavy as heck.

Great picture quality especially using a DVD player with component or S video outputs.

Some weaknesses I found:
Weak speakers - sound is a bit distorted at high volumes, but with a home theater system, it doesn't matter much.

Certain geometric errors - when picture are set at a certain setting.

Overall this is a great unit for its value and picture quality.

Strength:

Picture is gorgeous. Very black blacks. 16:9 mode drastically improves DVD watching. Good set of connections
on the back for the price.

Weakness:

Remote sucks but what else is new. Would be nice if the
tv automatically switched to widescreen when the input calls for it. Speakers suck but thats cause sony wants you to by
their more expensive unit with better speakers (and they are
noticeably better) but you could just put that money towards a good surround sound system. Oh yeah, you have to use a calibration dvd because the settings are totally screwy when you first get the tv.

awesome tv. Extreme quality for a not very extreme price.
I personally believe it is hard to see better quality on
a 27" screen. I would like it if the frame wasn't so imposing.

Strength:

Flat picture. Very good picture quality, even on analog cable.

Weakness:

Price and weight (at 100 lbs, it's heavy). Can not disable unused inputs.... you must click through them to get to the one you want. Only 90-day warranty on labor.

Fortunately, have not experienced the "pink stripe" or geometry problems that some have reported. Initially had a slight green cast in one corner, but that disappeared after several days of use. The set must have a degaussing circuit.

The flat picture tube really does cut down on reflections,
which was a big problem in the den area. The picture quality is very good..... excellent detail and color. It
makes other sets look bad by comparison. The sound is good, but not great. The front-firing speakers avoid the "cupped hands" effect when the set is installed in wall insets or entertainment centers, which is a problem with the XBR and V-series design (acoustic chamber).

Thus far, I'm quite happy with my purchase with no buyer's remorse. If you're looking for a TV to tide you over until the HDTV dust settles, put the KV-27FS12 on your short list.

Strength:

Awesome picture quality, price for what you get, plenty of unputs for this size TV. Looks.

Weakness:

I don't think it has many weaknesses.

I love the tv. I really don't watch tv much, only my dvd's. I love it on the dvd's as it is a really nice picture..very realistic. I cannot imagine why anyone would pay the extra $200-$300 for the last yar's model WEGA in this size. They are identical other than cosmetics.

I have no regrest buying this. This is my first TV and perfect for my fiancee and I when we move into an apartment or smaller house. I am more an audio guy than HT, but do love a good DVD to watch and of course a nice set to watch it on. I think this set has very realistic flesh tones and doesn't add too much to the picture like some sets. This is why I didn't get the JVS or Panasonic sets that were similar to the 27" WEGA. Great price now that Sony lowered the price. Also, very compatible with my gear (mostly Sony). I have yet to check this set out on my new DVD playr the 9000ES, but I am pretty excited..too bad tv isn't prgressive! :( Oh well. I think in a couple of years I will get a nice 36 XBR maybe and be set.

I strongly support this tv...I would dare to say best for the quality and features, but if you cannot find a low enough price maybe a bit expensive..I know some of the Toshibas have the component inputs and so does the JVC-D series tvs, but I also know that both companies market around those cheap inputs for those tv's....so might want to check them out first.

PIcture, looks, quality, build, features

Weakness:

component video not on video 1 and that is my main use....but small complaint. tv broadcast suck. top is not flat for a center channel.

This is a great little TV. Actually my first, but I went ahead and got the best I could find for this price range. Of course it helps to have family that works at Best Buy! For the price I paid I cannot think of anything that brings this TV down. It has excellent video reproduction from DVD, which is the main reason I bought the unit. cable broadcast are pretty snowy most of the time, but since I rarely watch music I am not gonna complain. I also do not like that the top of the unit is not flat and large enough to hold a center channel. All in all a great tv, especially for the bedroom or dorm room...or even apartment.

All in all, I like Sony TV's, but if it came down to it I would prefer Toshiba to make a similar 27". They have a 20" that rocks with as many features as this tv. Now, only if they made larger flat screens affordable from Toshiba. Sony, IMHO is a bit overpriced b/c of name, but again they provide quality video products and good top end cd players...well some of them.

Cheers.

Strength:

there are many, the picture is very crisp and i really enjoy watching it. i would really reccomend it.

Weakness:

people say its heavy which it is. but at least there are handles on it. I dont like how all the weight is in the front, kinda makes me think its gonna tip but its stable.

i had a older smaller tv a while ago and i wanted to get a good tv to go with my new home theater system. and i looked around for a while and found myself really liking this product. for smaller rooms it works great. and the picture quality is very good. It was hard to decide weather to get the larger screen or the higher quality picture. and i am happy i went the the wega not a standard sony 30in.

Strength:

16:9 DVD mode, lots of inputs, nice menus

Weakness:

What do they make these things out of, lead? Faint pink
stripe on left side of screen.

My God, what a picture. Even the crappy cable signal looks pretty good. And the 16:9 mode for DVDs makes me want to have this TVs baby.
My only real complaint is the faint pink stripe down the left side of the screen. It's not too obvious, but it pisses me off when I watch my Clerks DVD.
