Strength:

Great picture, great sound, PIP

Weakness:

Remote, distortion

I tried two of these models over the course of 3 weeks and finally gave up and tried another model from another manufacturer.

I loved everything about the TV EXCEPT that there were pink/purple vertical "clouds" on either side of the screen. There were unnoticable over dark background or when there is a lot of movement or action, however whenever there was sky or a white background it looked terrible.

The authorized repairman came to take a look and told me to return it. He said it might have a "bent mask."

I was quite disappointed in the end.

Bought this T.V. at Tweeter for $850 and it is great. Fantastic picture, lots of inputs,(although they did not make it with component video input yet) excellent for viewing at an angle, slightly improved styling over the first generation Wega T.V.'s, and a major "wow" factor. At almost half the price of a 32 inch Wega, its a great deal.

What can I say? This TV is amazing! The silver case on the TV is unique and flashy. The video is breath taking on DVD, VHS, and Cable. For an example, when watching HBO, my friend came in and starting watching the movie Volcano. After watching for a few minutes he asked me how much I paid for this film on DVD! The picture is that clear! If this is how cable looks imagine DVD. Don't get me wrong the audio is great too, but what do you buy a flat screen for? I bought the TV from a local store called ABT Electronics for $766 which was a very good price. The only small wish I wanted to have filled is component video. Oh well it is a 5+ in my book! If you want the best 27 inch TV out there BUY ONE!

I have had this TV for about two months and I love it! It replaced a Panasonic Superflat and let me just say there is no comparison between the two. The Sony is much a whole lot clearer than the Superflat. Two problems I have with it are that the picture looks so good that if the DVDs you are watching are not transfered very will this TV seems to really pick it up. There are a couple movies that I could watch without a problem on the Superflat but on the Wega they seemed to be more annoying. The second problem I had was with the sharpness control. I am using s-video and it is recomended that you turn the sharpness all the way down when using this connection. No so with this TV. If you turn the sharpness down all the way to even a couple settings away from the bottom the picture gets very blury. So after a couple weeks I finally got the picture right and now it is sweet! I could never go back to the Superflat after having this Badboy!

I've owned this TV for about a week now and I must say that I am blown away! I'm using this TV with the Sony DE830 Reciever, and Sony 550 DVD, and I have a set of really nice Boston Acoustic speakers the 9000 series. The picture quality on this TV is top notch, the only problem with the whole set is that It took about 10-12 hours to totally tweek the TV picture, this however was well worth it. Once you get used to the remote, the TV is really easy to use, and very convenient. I'm blown away that after a week of straight messing around, I still haven't figured out everything this TV can do. I would recommend this TV for anyone who has a high budget, and is looking for the highest in picture quality, with lots of components.

Strength:

Excellent Picture, Looks Great

Weakness:

No component inputs, Expensive for a 27 inch TV

Had this TV for about two months now. The picture is great. I did not have room for a larger TV in my home theater and this TV was a good compromise. The TV has a lot of bells and whistle and it takes a little while to understand them all. I recommend this TV for anyone looking for a really good 27 inch TV.

I compared this TV to several other competitors including the Panasonic Superflat and the Toshiba Cinema Series. The Wega had the cleanest, clearest picture. I wish I could see what the picture would look like with component inputs. Highly recommended.

Strength:

Picture, Sound

Weakness:

2nd S-Video In front

This was the TV I ve been waiting for a long time. I absolutely love this TV for the 800 smackers I paid for this thing. I have no regret. Most of my problems with sound and inputs were solved with the receiver. However, I wish I didn't buy this TV. Before I thought the TV was rather big, now it is rather small, I should have bought the KV36XBR20 for 2000. Maybe I'll put this TV in the living room and get a the bigger one. Just kidding the other way around. Overall the TV has done me good. I have really enjoyed it with my DVDs and games(don't watch much broadcast television , so i can't review that part of it). Picture quality is great, it is comparable to my FD Trinitron monitor( almost same picture tube i think, just one bigger). This is not a bad investment at all. As for geometric distortions, haven't seen any. It's a flat tube, some people probably need to get used to it.

I picked this set up three weeks ago at Tweeter for $850, after returning the 24" model for something a bit bigger. Unfortunately, it suffers many of the same irritating problems of the first set.
First, image geometry is a joke. Since the set is used primarily for watching anamorphic DVDs, it's terribly frustrating for the top of the image to bow downward just to the right of the middle; the service menus don't provide adequate controls for fixing this. Furthermore, there was visible trapezoidal distortion to the picture, with the upper half of the picture noticeably wider than the bottom half. I could correct this, mostly, through the service menus, but I was still unsatisfied. Watching movies where the camera panned across a scene would result in an uncomfortable "warping" of the image here and there.

After having used Video Essentials to set the black level, enabling "enhanced black" on my DVD player (Toshiba SD-2109), and watching a DVD in the darker "movie mode", I found that the Wega had trouble holding black at all... Especially noticeable watching widescreen images. Specifically, if the picture being sent to the set was particularly bright - say, a scene outdoors on a nice day - the corners of the screen, inward about 1 to 2 inches, would lighten up and become a sort of a foggy grey. When the scene darkened again, so did the corners. Argh.

What bothers me most of all on the Wega, though, is the irritatingly low refresh rate of 50 Hz (I may be wrong on the number). Everything flickers subtly, and scan lines are readily apparent. The result is a very artificial appearance to ANY video source I used. Of course, all sets are far over-sharp with their factory settings intact, but I still couldn't subdue this problem.

Pros? It does have some. The set looks fantastic (the silver finish grows on you), provided it's turned off. It's sturdily constructed and heavy (you might need a hand with anything larger than the 27"). Even the door that conceals the front input jacks (infamous for being flimsy and easily broken) has a very firm feel to it. The remote is also very nice - the standard Sony fare, but with new glow-in-the-dark buttons (for channel, volume, and the numeric keypad) which I found to hold their glow for about half an hour before they needed to be "recharged" under a lamp again.

Features are so-so. Dual-tuner PIP is nice, but personally I rarely touch it. There are two s-video inputs, but I can't give them many points for that - one is in front, so if you wanted, say, a DVD player and DSS box attached, you'd need to have one cable dangling out of the front of set with the door open... an unattractive option, but perhaps better than a switch box. SRS and pseudo-surround are available on the audio side, but I found both of them drowned out dialog too much, and usually ended up using the normal mode.

Finally, the labor warranty is now a skimpy 90 days. Perhaps Sony is losing faith in their products? Hell, I am.

Panasonic's Superflats and Toshiba's Cinema Series offer excellent competition for considerably less money. I urge you to consider them seriously if you're looking for a set in this size.
