Strength:
Good video quality for the price.
Weakness:
The audio, but its no worse than any other TV at this price range. From the last generation of Trinitrons before being replaced by the Wegas. I have been using this TV for almost five years now without any problems. The picture quality is very good for a TV of this quality. However, as with just about every TV on the market, most of the video presets are inaccurate. Out of the box, the Movie preset is acceptable, but I have had this TV colour calibrated to get better results. The colour balance cannot be tuned precisely right, but is pretty good for this quality of TV. Better than expected. The internal audio is, well, about what you'd expect for a TV of this calibre - nothing special. The audio effects are unnecessary. I now use this with a home theatre receiver and turn the sound off. The internal tuner performed well with the type of signals I was receiving before shifting to a satellite receiver. The TV has cable, composite, and S-video inputs. All work as advertised, with the S-video providing the best image quality. What else? The clock loses time, if you want to use the internal timer. It also forgets the time if the power is removed for more than a few seconds. I have never used the V-Chip features, so I cannnot comment on them. A very good TV all round - the best that I have owned and worth the purchase price. Similar Products Used: Sony, Mitsubishi, and others going back to a 1952 Philips B&W console. |

Strength:
Beautiful picture when first bought.
Weakness:
apparent short life of picture tube. Very upset that my unit's has what seems to be picture tube problems. Two semicircle color distortions have appeared on the left and right margins of the screen. I have no magnets nearby so this is not the problem. I do not know if I will buy Sony again. |

Strength:
When it worked it had a nice picture.
Weakness:
It lasted TWO months and then failed and continued to fail all throughout its life. Now that its out of warranty SONY wont even fix the same things that were wrong with it under warranty..constantly fighting with them to do anything that should be done!!!! This thing is the biggest piece of crap!!! Its about ready to die and sony wants to charge 125-350 to repair it.. Steer clear of anything from sony, they simply dont back up their products!!!! Strength:
Picture quality.
Weakness:
Sound quality is fair at best. Reliability now is questionable at best. Great TV, until the manufacturer's warranty expired. During the first 2 years, the TV was trouble free. Picture waulity is great. Sound is OK, but could be better. After 26 months of use, the sound stopped altogether. The normal warranty period was 24 months, but I had purchased an extended warranty. The repair shop said the tuner had failed, and replaced it with a new unit. After 5 hours of use, the tuner failed again. |

Strength:
Sony quality and reliablity, great picture.
Weakness:
Sound is not very good. After a disaster with a Proscan 27 inch TV monitor which died within two years of purchase to the tune of $600, I threw my hands up in the air and bought the Sony KV27S42. We have been very pleased. What a great TV! The Sony picture quality has been fine with various inputs: digital cable, S-VHS and Tivo signals. Sorry, no DVD at our house yet. The sound quality from the Sony set is less than stellar, but we have it hooked up to a NAD receiver and a pair of powered Paradigm 90P monitors, and that helps tremendously. The build quality and reliability of the Sony have been great, and the onscreen programs are easy to use. Strength:
Picture when it works.
Weakness:
Sony service, Sony's non-exsistance quality. Sony TV's are no longer worth the premium that they demand. I have had nothing but problems with this TV. The geometry is off - have had Sony repair out twice to TRY and fix it. There is dicoloration in the the top left and bottom right of the screen which they also tried to fix and to top it all off, one day the screen went all weird colors. Sony service told me that the shadow mask was bent and that I dropped it! The TV was sitting in the same place for 2 months before the probelm happened. I finally convinced them that the TV should be fixed under warranty and after getting the set back, the geometry is WAY off and the 2 discoloration spots are still there. Save your money and buy a TV from a different manufacturer - cheaper price and less headaches |

Strength:
This is a wonderfull unit WHEN IT WORKS PROPERLY. The Trinitron tube produces an image in which it's equivelant peers like toshiba and panasonic cannot match. The image is super sharp and brings my DVD movies to life with incredible realism. The colours are vivid and he surround sound setting is very convincing as well as it greatly widens the soundstage. Of course, having a vertically flat screen also produces an image which is less warped. Picture wise, the Sony Trinitron 27" TV is simply astonishing. You may be paying a premium for this tv but your lucky and avoid buying a dud, you will be VERY PLEASED with your purchase.
Weakness:
Unfortunately, my tv is on the verge of death. Over the span of 4y's problems that have risen were: -popping sounds coming from my speakers -warping of immages on the side of the screen -various parts that have "deteriated" and needed replacing within the tv -humming sound comming from the display. At the time, my tv came with a 3y warranty. Some problems occured after the warranty expired but with persistance, I managed to get Sony to foot the bill for my repairs. I am now in the market for a new TV as another problem has come up and would love to buy another Sony TV but I'm affraid to risk it. Now that that's off my chest and my ranting is done with, here are some non-reliability related weekness I found with this tv: -lack of av inputs -glow in the dark remote wounld be nice (even my cheapo Sharp TV glows) For Value, I give it a 3 because it is expensive compared to other brands that offers PIP as well as a host of other options (which you might not use) for the same price. What you are paying for is premium price for a premium picture quality. Overall, I give it a 4 because of possible reliability issues. I'd like to noth though that if it weren't for m This is for the kv27s22 which I purchased 4 years ago. I am writing this to warn about the marvels, and the threat of possibly purchasing this TV from Sony. Similar Products Used: Sharp, toshiba, panasonic |

Strength:
Great picture/sound. Very easy to program and had some neat little features too.
Weakness:
Obviously....Product reliability and company's unwillingness to accept fault with their product. I bought this set less than 2years ago and it went tits up! Very disappointed with this product for dying so soon. Don't get me wrong, when it worked, it looked great (great picture). I can't believe it's dead. Trouble is....no warranty and now the cost for repair will almost match the purchase price. Similar Products Used: none |
